Sitting right next to Roland, Anna's heart was beating so quickly, so strongly, that she was convinced he could hear it.
'The last time we were this close, he was saving me from that Nightingale person.'
The hacker seemingly had some issue with Roland's company, as that wasn't the first time they'd hacked through his systems. Coincidentally, each hack had come shortly before a product launch, as if the hacker was trying to discredit the company. However, Anna's incident was the first time the hacker had gone after one of Roland's employees.
'Why bother going after me? What makes me so special?' thought Anna as she glanced at Roland's profile from the corner of her eye. Roland suddenly leant back in his chair, and Anna made eye contact with Veronica on the other side of him. She blushed embarrassedly, aware that Veronica knew she'd been staring at him, and looked down hurriedly.
Veronica, on the other hand, was very angry, although she didn't show it externally.
'This slut… staring at one's boss is very unprofessional! I should get her fired before she becomes a bad influence of Roland!
'What? No, of course it's not because I want Roland to myself.
'I just think he deserves someone better than her, someone like me!'
Anna quickly glanced to the side to see how Veronica had reacted, only to see the latter ostensibly glaring at her!
'Eh? Did I offend her? Is she someone who doesn't like to be looked in the eyes?' Anna, as someone who didn't like others being angry or displeased with her, started to worry.
Remembering how close this woman had gotten to Roland earlier, she thought, 'Well, they are very close, so she could ask him to fire me, and he probably would; I haven't worked here for long!'
Surprisingly, the part of that thought that upset Anna the most wasn't the chance of Roland firing her, but the thought of how close Veronica and Roland were.
'They were pressed up very firmly against him; he'd have to be a rock to have not felt anything.'
Anna tried focusing on the meeting and putting those useless thoughts aside but to no avail. She just couldn't make sense of the board members' words right now.
'They definitely have some closer relationship, right?
'Which means I'll never get a chance!'
Anna stared despondently at the paper in front of her.
Apparently noticing this, Roland leaned over, patter her on the shoulder, and whispered, "Are you okay, Anna? If this is sort of meeting is too much for you, you can take a step outside. Barov is recording the minutes in the corner, so it's alright for you to take a break."
Anna blush slightly and replied, "No, it's nothing, I'll be fine."
She looked a Roland with a bright, broad smile on her face.
'He really does pay attention to me!
'He's not going to fire me! Any time soon at least…'
Veronica, however, was less than happy.
'This b*tch is always stealing Roland's affection! Just you wait…'
