The Healing Angel

Nana dropped her fork, her mouth agape. So shocked she was that she couldn't even get out a whole sentence.

"You don't mean…"

"I do."

"But he's remained oblivious for so many year…"

"That's right."

"What happened? When did he realize?"

"When I kissed him."

A loud gasp escaped Nana's mouth. As a close friend of Veronica's for many years, naturally, she knew about her feelings for Roland. She'd seen the two together and had been equally annoyed that Roland had such a low EQ.

When she gathered her wits, Nana asked, "Go on, what happened next?"

Listening to the story, Nana was crying with joy. She knew how much Roland meant to Veronica, and for them to end up together after so much time pleased her greatly.

'There may be days when life doesn't seem fair, but everything works out eventually.'

After that, they finished the food, although it tasted slightly salty from all their tears. They then went to put a movie on. By the time it finished, it was already dark outside.

"Would you look at that?" Veronica said happily. "Night's already fallen; you can't walk to the train station at this time, and my drivers have finished for the day."

"Oh, no worries, I have a cab number he—"

"You have no choice; you'll have to stay now," Veronica hurriedly interrupted.

"Hmm, I don't know… I could just call a ca—" She was cut off again.

"Even the 'Healing Angel' needs a good break every now and then."

Nana sighed and said in a monotone, "Fine, I suppose there's no other choice."

Her face flushed as she asked, "Who told you about that nickname? I told them all that I don't like it…"

"I think it suits you. A young, beautiful, talented, intelligent, um, did I say beautiful?" Veronica teased.

"Stop it, it's bad enough to hear it at work. You know, I mostly hear it from the older doctors; it's so embarrassing."

They giggled as they went to get changed into their pajamas before watching another movie.

Anna's cab pulled up outside a small, cozy cottage on the outskirts of town. After paying the driver, Anna quickly walked up to the front door and rang the bell.

"Who is it?" queried a voice from the other side of the door.

"It's me," Anna replied.

"Oh, come in, come in," urged an old woman as she opened the door, ushering Anna into her home.

In the hall, Anna put down her things and turned around to give the old woman a hug.

"Gramma, it's good to see you. You're looking well," said Anna.

"It's good to see you too," her grandmother replied. "I wish you'd have called; I don't know if I have much in for dinner."

Anna smiled at her grandmother, not having the heart to correct her. "That's fine. If you don't have anything in, I can go out and pick something up."

"Nonsense," her grandmother said, smiling kindly at her granddaughter. "There'll be something in my cupboards that I can whip up for us."
