Anna left her grandmother's house with a complicated expression. Scroll had dropped two big bombshells on her. First, and most importantly, her grandmother's dementia was getting much worse. This, of course, was a great cause for concern, and Anna was obviously worried.
'I'm upset that she didn't tell me about it sooner. I'll have to speak to her about hiding less from me. It'll become especially important to have another person in the know as she continues to forget more.
'And to have gone to the hospital alone… she must have been scared stiff! Tsk! She should have called me, so I could take her.'
Anna wasn't really mad at her grandmother; she was mostly annoyed that she hadn't been there to support her.
The second bombshell dropped by Gramma Scroll was her impassioned speech about striving for more.
'She's right that I should try to put myself first more often, but how can I do that with Roland? If I ask him out, he'll be put in a difficult situation as he's my employer. And what if he says no? I don't want to make the office's atmosphere awkward; the vibe within the office is so calm and cheerful.
'I mean, obviously we have times when everything's rushed, and people tend to be slightly on edge then, but for the most part, I'm very happy working there. I'm happy with how things are.
'Gramma might want more for me, but I don't need more for now.'
…
As they finished their movie, Nana turned to Veronica and asked, "Ver, I've been thinking… You've felt the same way about Roland for years, why did you make a move now?"
"Hmm. It just felt like the best moment. We'd spent a nice evening together, and he was just dozing on the floor."
"But you've been in similar situations before; what was different about this one?" Nana pressed.
"It was probably due to Anna," Veronica muttered.
Still somewhat out the loop, Nana continued to question her. "Anna? His personal finance officer? Stupid title, by the way. What does she have to do with it?"
"She's just some woman who kept flirting with Roland and distracting him. I'm sure she's only after his money. You know when he ran off the stage during his recent product launch presentation? That was because of her.
"I guess you could say that I'd acknowledged that my position was threatened and put myself in a now or never mindset," explained Veronica.
"Wow, this Anna doesn't seem that great; she's trying to sleep herself to the top? Ha, our Roland isn't someone like that; just look at how long you had to work to date him!" joked Nana.
Thinking of something, Veronica continued, "Come to think of it, I don't think she knows that Roland and I are dating yet…"
Nana's eyes widened. "You should go into the office tomorrow and mark your territory! Make sure she knows to stay away!"
Smirking, Veronica mumbled, "Yes, that does sound like fun."
