"Roland has a little sister? How much younger is she?"
"Tilly is twenty years old. She is currently studying at college for her masters degree and will most likely come here to work as soon as she's finished."
"That's sweet. They must get along well, right?"
"Of course they do. Tilly idolizes her big brother, and he spoils her rotten. I don't think I've ever seen another pair of siblings as close as they are."
"I've always wanted a sibling," muttered Anna as she fell into thought.
'If Roland's so cheery, could it be that he hasn't dealt with the Veronica issue?
'Or perhaps he didn't believe me and took my words as mindless ramblings.'
She furrowed her brows in annoyance.
'That's a big threat to himself and the company; it should have been a priority for him.
'I think I'll go in and remind him right—'
Her thoughts immediately halted as the elevator doors opened with a 'ding'.
'Well I'll be damned... Veronica—or should I say Nightingale?—is here.
'It seems he did heed my words. I bet he's called her in to severely reprimand her.
'I wouldn't be surprised if she gets kicked of the board. Still, that would be a light punishment for her crimes; if Roland gets serious, she could face jailtime!
'Look at her, she has no idea what's about to happen.'
Anna sat there, smirking, watching the foolish b*tch who was walking to her doom.
'This should be fun to watch. Whatever the outcome, she deserves it for framing me and deceiving Roland all these years.'
As Anna watched Veronica walking to Roland's office, Veronica suddenly turned and threw a pleasant smile at Anna before opening his office door and stepping in.
Oblivious to what had just happened, Barov turned around to Anna and said, "Ah, there's another reason Roland might be more cheerful."
"Oh? What reason could that be?" Anna replied.
"Well," continued Barov, "Carter mentioned something about Roland now having a partner."
He gave Anna a knowing look and asked, "Why didn't you tell me?"
The smug smile on Anna's face abruptly disappeared. She stood up in shock, knocking her chair back.
"Why didn't I tell you? How can I tell you something I didn't know about?"
Barov furrowed his brows. "What? It's not you? If not you, then who?"
"How would I know that?" she snapped.
'Dammit! I should've spoken to him! Here I was, waiting for him to make a move, when someone else appeared on the scene.'
She stared blankly ahead, deep in thought, unsure how to react to this.
Meanwhile, Barov was mumbling incoherently to himself.
"If it's not her then... No, it can't be her, she's not in the country... I was so sure it was..."
Thinking of something, Barov stopped his mumbling, turned to Anna, and asked, "Could Carter have been mistaken? After all, he is new here, and I really can't think of anyone else it could be..."
Noticing she wasn't responding, he followed her line of sight.
"What?" Barov exclaimed, shocked to his feet as well. "It's Veronica?"
