"So, what do you do on your computer?"
Veronica didn't respond right away. 'What do I do on my computer?
'I spend most of the time nosying about Roland's company and keeping an eye on those around him.
'But I can't tell her that, can I?
'I should probably tell her that I while away the hours play Legends of League like other no-lifers.'
However, looking at the trusting, innocent eyes of Maggie, Veronica couldn't bring herself to lie to the little girl. She especially didn't want to risk the trust she had finally earned over something like this.
In lieu of an answer, Veronica stood and gestured for Maggie to follow her. "Come. Instead of telling you, why don't I show you? You can have a go as well then."
The pair climbed the stairs to the second floor and entered Veronica's room.
"It's very dark in here."
"You're right, let me get the light."
Only when the light was on did Veronica realize just how untidy the room was.
"Goo…" Maggie was shocked. "You live here?"
Veronica chuckled embarrassedly and replied, "I've been busy recently; I haven't had time to tidy."
"Don't you have maids and stuff for that?"
"They're not allowed in here. In fact, you're the first person to have been in here for a quite a number of years." Veronica gave Maggie a knowing smile.
Maggie's eyes shone like a magpie's looking at a shiny object. "So, this is a forbidden area to the adults? I'm the only other person allowed in here?"
"That's right." Veronica chuckled. Sharing her 'secret lair' with a younger sister didn't seem so bad.
"Goo!" Maggie was clearly exceptionally excited; she ran around the room, ignoring the mess on the floor, bed, and desk, opening all the cupboards and doors to see everything.
Meanwhile, Veronica was attempting to discretely tidy up her mess. Although she could have tidied up in the open, considering how focused Maggie was in her exploration of the room.
When Veronica was finished clearing her mess, she joined Maggie in rummaging through her wardrobe. The two played dress up for quite some time.
Approximately half an hour later, Maggie, in a ballroom dress that was far too big for her and a wide-brimmed hat at a jaunty angle on her head, asked, "What did we come up here for again?"
"I was going to show you what I spend all day doing."
"You spend all day playing dress up, goo?"
Veronica put her palm to her face. "On my computer…"
Maggie grinned. "Oh yeah… so what do you do on your computer all day?"
"I'll boot up my computer and show you."
She walked over to her computer and switched it on as she placed Maggie in the seat in front of it.
"Wait here," Veronica said to Maggie, "I just thought of some pests I need to shoo away before I show you."
Maggie wasn't quite sure what Veronica was shooting away, but after Veronica opened the door to her room, she heard a lot of footsteps running away from the room.
