Prologue

"Her face was like the sun's most beautiful sunset." Zhao Long smiled while gazing at the scarlet colored sky, and the setting sun. It was obvious there was no one present, but the dragon still continued his tale.

"With a crimson red hair and emerald eyes that can burn through your soul the moment you gaze at them.

Her name was Yulin. The first human to truly captivate me." Taking a deep breath the dragon's eyes gleamed as he began his monologue.

"She was like the sun, always smiling despite the unfairness of the world. Magic was second nature to her, and yet she never used it to harm others or bring benefits to herself like I had seen others do." Explained the dragon in his solitude. Zhao Long said it loudly, hoping for someone to hear his great speech.

He was in his last moments. The last moments of the last dragon. Sadly, no one heard his story. And it remained this way. Or perhaps, Death itself heard his monologue as it was waiting for him, musing about the poor old dragon's lunacy.

"I loved Yulin. I never told her, but she knew and I'm sure she too loved me." The dragon took a long deep breath and continued.

"But it was just impossible…A dragon and a human? Ha! I am just an ancient dragon, and yet in all my years, I was never able to be together with her… " he paused, his eyes filled with a mixture of sadness and rage.

"It was forbidden… I longed for her, and she for me, but we could never be together." Zhao Long turned his head away from the sky, his eyes drifting towards the side of the tree.

It was unknown whether Zhao Long could sense someone was staring at him. A nagging feeling arising deep within him, telling him his death was near.

"Look at me! So powerful, so mighty, and yet I couldn't be with the person I wanted to be with the most! Isn't that pathetic?!" He grimaced in madness.

Dragons are magical creatures.

Powerful dragons could take on a human form, but this wisdom was almost never used for good. Instead, they tricked humans into their lairs, where they were killed for pleasure.

Zhao Long had been one of these dragons, he had turned human countless of times, deceiving and slaughtering many humans in his path. However, it seemed this impulsive instinct to kill humans didn't apply to Yulin.

"She's not here anymore. And finally, after so long… I can join her. I hope to meet her again one day… My Yulin…"

And thus, the dragon's last breath was released with this sentence, and he went into a deep slumber, never to be woken again.

He wasn't sure his words would turn to reality, for all he knew it could be eons before their souls met again.

A dragon's soul was special. Having been born with the knowledge about reincarnation made them very aware that they would not live forever, unlike what is often heard from stories.

They sure lived a long time though.

10,000 years may seem long, but it was not an eternity.

Zhao Long knew that sometimes souls wouldn't meet again in the next life, and that it's quite unlikely to meet them again once the paths have disconnected. The chances of Zhao Long meeting Yulin again in a different life were close to null.

'Goodbye to my dragon life… ' he thought. And with that his soul rose up and flew into the River of Souls on his way to the netherworld.

In a tree behind the dragon's corpse, a mysterious entity came out of concealment. Using a special concealment technique that was too bizarre and obnoxious for that primitive world.

The entity that came out from hiding wore a golden embroidered black gown. It was a woman with a naturally pale face and beautiful facial features.

Her eyes were a deep scarlet, capable of bewitching anyone who saw her, and yet they held a bone-chilling sensation within them which could without a doubt, kill whoever looked into her gaze.

"….The Last Dragon Soul…" she whispered before disappearing into the darkness in the same direction as that of the River of Souls.

This was none other than the entity known as "Death", who had indifferently listened to Zhao Long's monologue from the beginning.
