Chapter 7: Two-sides too Trash

Sitting calmly at the edge of his bed, Kewang Tian had a miserable face. This look had been stuck on his face for almost half a year now. Every day his dreams would cause a backlash in him and cause him seizures. During this half a year, nothing much had changed. Most people in the clan still didn't like him, but how he was a bastard before, he was now trash. Having grown physically weak, he was insulted and even picked on by others in the Clan. Surprisingly, the girl, Kewang Feng, had been a lot gentler towards him, which had puzzled Kewang Tian, but he didn't put much thought to it, as he was just glad, that she wasn't being her usual overbearing self.

Kewang Yun had still hung out with him a lot, although the time he was spending cultivating was getting longer and longer, causing Kewang Tian to feel slightly abandoned. Luckily, his uncles had hired one of them for elderly doctors, the oldest yet most active among them – Shen Nong.

Shen Nong was a nice old man, wearing red robes, with fiery ruby's decorating the clasps. His face was long and solemn, yet he always looked happy, as if he was finally in his element. He had fiery eyes, which felt like you could burn in them, however, there wasn't any hint of malice in his eyes, instead, there was a look of belonging and care, that made Kewang Tian feel at ease.

Really getting to know this old man and hearing his many stories, was the only solace that helped him in recent times. His body was weakening at a rate, where it would be hard to walk in a few months, and in a year or two, he might as well be a cripple. But when old man Shen Nong, heard this he simply chuckled. "Don't worry my dear boy, eventually when you come of age, you will grow out of it. Often these are the hardest diseases, ones where there is no cure but must wait it out. To endure, whilst being a hardship, it is also a trial, and if you should pass, it could be possible that you transform into a greater person." The old man said whilst chuckling.

Hearing this Kewang Tian didn't know what to say, he felt like the old man's words, were ones of a fairy tale. "Oh, you don't believe me?" The old man looked at him with fiery eyes.

Kewang Tian looked at the happy old man in sadness, "It's not that I don't want to believe you Senior Shen, but it's that even if I do recover, and my body becomes even stronger, I won't be as talented a cultivator as others, there geniuses, whilst I'm just a bastard, with an unknown father. And on it is known my mother only had a level four spirit, which means that I will have at best a level five." He dropped his head, looking at the floor of the now clean hut.

Seeing the boys pain, the old man sighed. "So, what?" He said in a stern voice, scolding him.

"Even if you had the worst possible martial spirit, you can still reach the apex of cultivation in this realm, let alone this measly city!" Shen Nong snorted.

"Senior Shen, you… you've left the city before?" Kewang Tian looked at him, bamboozled from his last statement.

Hearing this the old man just chuckled. "Listen to me Xiao Tian, people can have the worst talent in this world, and yet they can stumble there way to the top, one incompetent and misguided foot at a time, some people are born lucky, they have heaven-defying talent, such as that young Yun, yet talent will only take you so far. I can guarantee, that although the boy has talent, he will become too reliant on that spirit of his, and just embrace its power, which will ultimately become his downfall…"

As soon as these words left the lips of Shen Nong Kewang Tian had a frown indented on his face, Yun was his best friend, yet the old man was saying although the heavens blessed him, fate-bound him not to reach the apex. It scratched a nerve in his heart.

Ignoring his reaction Shen Nong continued, "There's something even better than a Martial Spirit out there as well, that the people of this city don't know about, maybe they just lost it to history, or maybe they're just stupid, my bets on the former."

As these words hit Kewang Tian's ears his face lit up. "There's something better than a Martial Spirit!" he shouted, as though the words had rocked his world, he had a big grin on his face, for the first time in a long time.

Seeing Kewang Tian's excitement Shen Nong's lips curled. "Not something, four things are better than a Martial Spirit."

"Please, Senior Shen, please tell me. Old Sage, please I won't tell anyone else please, who's going to overhear us." Seeing the boy's enthusiasm, he silently nodded.

"Well Xiao Tian, as you so kindly called this old one Sage, I'll have to oblige. First off, we need to talk about bloodlines. Bloodlines are obtained two ways, inheritance, and extraction. For example, one day, someone might mate with a demonic beast with a demonic beat in human form, and have offspring with it, which will cause those offspring, to have the traits of both the human and bes-…"

Kewang Tian's jaw had dropped. Who would mate with a demonic beast! He thought to himself.

Seeing the look on his face, The Old Sage could only shake his head, the world was complicated, and had too many circumstances to explain it properly.

"There is also the form of extracting blood and transplanting it in someone else, which is incredibly dangerous. If the right techniques aren't used, and if a high realm expert isn't assisting, it is almost impossible to do so."

"Next, we have physiques, there are several martial physiques that involve numerous advantages, so for example, one might be that they have a better affinity with Qi, allowing them to cultivate at a higher rate."

"Thirdly there are comprehensive abilities, the path of cultivation is 40% comprehension, in my opinion, if its elemental, or natural Laws, they are needed to step onto the greater path of cultivation."

"Finally, we come to the fourth, and the most likely one you can have, and that's willpower. Ignore what I previously said, although I believe that its 40% comprehension, I believe that its rather 100% concentrated, undeniable willpower, to overcome all odds and this ability, it's one that will knock the others away, and can allow, an angry mob of peasants, to overthrow an empire!"

As the final words, of this speech, hit Kewang Tian's ears, his face looked like it was going to burst, from the excitement he faced. He may not have great aptitude, what he did have was willpower, and he could harness that.

After seeing the stupidly excited face he was wearing the Old Sage said, "Also, the leading peasant can't be a total idiot, remember that." He snorted, as he got up to leave, with an invisible smile on his face.

"I need to leave then, the same time again tomorrow Xiao Tian?" He said as he walked out of Kewang Tian's hut, with a look of a Grandpa, that had just told one of his great-grandsons a story of his prideful youth!
