Shameless Old Man

Drifting snowflakes rode on the winds and left the earth covered in a blanket of white. The chilly temperature was the perfect setting for the tension between the two sects.

There was not a person who did not know of the Frost Fighters Sect. It was even more rare for people to not know about the feud between them and Qui Yang's Shadow Sect.

Every single year Wu Yen would shamelessly challenge Qui Yang. Unfortunately for Wu Yen, every single year Shadow Sect won.

This year the rumours had been circulating that Shadow Sect had no chance of winning. A new addition to Frost Fighters Sect was the whole reason for all these rumours. Ning Ye, he was the star of Frost Fighters Sect. He had already surpassed most cultivators his age. Only one level was separating him from breaking through to Celestial Realm.

Despite the cold weather, the people of Huangjie were gathered outside the hall where the competition would take place. Everybody was watching the two sects closely and placing bets on who they thought would win.

'I don't care if this guy was one of the gods themselves, he can't beat Shadow Sect,' one of the bystanders proclaimed.

Because of this statement an uproar started. In the crowd were three groups of people. You had the faithful followers of the Frost Fighters, the steadfast supporters of Shadow Sect and the nonchalant ones who merely went to watch the drama.

'How can they win when Ning Ye has joined Frost Fighters Sect,' another proud bystander, clearly a follower of Frost Fighters, rebutted.

About a quarter of the crowd echoed their agreement. The man who had answered cast a clearly arrogant look all around.

Half of the crowd, the supporters of Shadow Sect, murmured under their breaths and shot contemptuous glares over to the man.

An elderly man, bent at a ninety degree angle merely cleared his throat before scolding them all.

'You bunch of reckless youths! Stop blabbering! Move out of the way and let me come through! I need a front seat view of this. Move!'

The crowd issued out cries of surprise when they found themselves jostled by the old man pushing his way through.

Out of nowhere a beautiful young girl came and calmly asked them all to move aside for their elder.

They had frowns on their faces but it disappeared in an instant.

'Woah... such a beauty.'

Xueyu held out her hand to separate the group of people from the old man. She suddenly looked down and saw a man at her feet with his head touching the ground.

'Goddess of Beauty, simply spare me a glance and I know my life will be full of good fortunes.'

'....'

Xueyu stared, not quite knowing what to do. She glanced behind her to find Jiao with a hand covering his mouth.

She glared and gave a helpless and pleading look. He didn't do anything but turn his head the other way with amused eyes.

Whack ! Whack ! Whack !

The man at Xueyu's feet jumped upright and howled in pain.

The old man was currently holding a cane that was previously obscured from view by his long robes.

He had a fierce expression on his face and glared at the man.

'You little rascal! Stop harassing the poor young lady. Move away from the nice girl!'

The man glared at the old man before walking away with his hand clutching his back.

The people were in utter silence.

Such a shameless old man...

Scolding the young man then patronising the same lady...

The elders think they are better than the youth?

They are much worse...

Xueyu scratched her head not quite sure why the man made such a fuss but happy that the other man was gone.

The old huffed the hobbled over to her with his cane supporting him. They walked to the entrance of the hall with him muttering.

Xueyu spotted Jiao a few paces in front of them and reminded herself to get back at him for what he did.

'The youth have gotten so shameless nowadays, apart from you of course,' the old man added with a touch of sugar coating his voice.

'Such a nice young lady, helping an old man like me,' he praised.

Xueyu smiled politely and assured him that she was simply passing by.

She showed him into the hall while the rest of the people gathered outside could only sigh.

Such a barefaced old man getting escorted in by an angel.

Of course the only reason he got in was because of his status. It was well known that no one but men and women of high status could enter the hall where the competition was held.

The people had to watch through windows and by any means possible.

Xueyu had no clue about this rule and so she didn't think it strange when the guard at the doors didn't pass their eyes over the pair twice.

The crowd however saw the hulking man standing off to the side of the hall. They couldn't miss the nod that he gave to the guard and the twitch of the old man's hand in his direction.

Seems like this old man was not too weak of a figure. He just had a bit of a nasty attitude ,which, come to think of it, was quite regular with the nobles of birth or stature.
