Adam had been on the ground for a little while when he started regaining consciousness. He opened his eyes only to find himself next to Archibald. He remembered what had happened and wanted to cry, but no tears came out. He heard activity outside and immediately thought about that stranger.
His whole body ached, and he felt his blood burning. He was trying to stand up when he heard screams from outside, and then people talking. He knew those people, they were other villagers.
He looked at Archibald and was lost in thought when someone came to the house entrance. It was James, the best hunter of the village. They both stared at each other, James then looked at Archibald and looked as if he had understood something. He turned around and called the others. When they had arrived, James pointed at Adam. All of them looked at him and were shocked. Some appeared afraid, some showed anger and hate.
Adam couldn't understand what was happening. He looked down at himself and saw that his upper clothes and hands were covered in blood. He reached for his neck and couldn't feel any marks of the attack he was the victim of, and there was no pain. This realization made him understand what the rest of the villagers were thinking. He wanted to tell them about what happened, but he didn't. They wouldn't believe him now.
Two of the stronger men approached him and grabbed him by the arms. They dragged him out of the house, and all those present started heading towards the village chief's house. As they were walking, Adam noticed that all the houses around his had their doors wide open. There was a corpse on the ground next to one of them.
Soon enough, they reached the house of the village chief. The house was bigger than the other houses and its walls were made of stone. There was a plaza in front of the chief's house where events would be held. All the villagers were gathered there, all of them holding torches. The chief was at the front of the group and was looking at Adam with a confused expression.
"He was the only one we found alive on the eastern side of the village, and his clothes are covered in blood", said James with a grave voice.
All present were either confused or shocked. James then continued. "There was a burning crater in front of their house. That's the huge sound we heard."
"What happened? What do you have to say Adam? This blood, it's not yours is it? You don't seem to be injured.", asked the village chief.
"He obviously killed everyone! Look at his clothes... his hands! That explosion and the crater, that's magic!", interjected one of the villagers.
"Yeah! Why's he the only one alive?!"
"Hang him!"
"He killed Sarah! Let me kill him!"
"Monster!", shouted some of the villagers.
"Silence!", shouted the village chief. He then turned to Adam once again and said, "I won't ask you again boy, answer me. What happened?!"
Adam looked around him at the people he used to talk to everyday. Those he worked with. They all looked at him with hate burning in their eyes. He looked at the village chief and was going to tell him what happened when he heard a voice in his head "Stay silent..."
Adam couldn't understand where this voice had come from. He wanted to talk, but he couldn't! It felt as if he couldn't control himself anymore. The order from that voice felt like it was absolute to him, and he couldn't go against it.
Looking at him being silent and not answering him, the village chief told them to lock him up.
"We will deliver him to the Rosenwuld military camp, they will decide what to do with him." Said the chief.
He was tied, then taken to the house where animal furs were treated and put in an animal cage that was a bit too short for him. So, he ended up sitting on the ground. He was confused, lost, sad and angry. His emotions were a mess and he didn't know what to do. He wanted to cry, but no tears came out. He touched his face, and to his horror, it was stoic. There were no facial expressions on his face...
Looking up, Adam saw James and another hunter looking at him in disgust. Both of them clinched their hands around their spears when he looked at them. Adam couldn't talk, so he just looked at them for a moment and then looked away. On the walls were tools used to treat the furs and cut them down. There were wooden basins where the pelts would be cleaned, some tables and workbenches. On the ceiling were ropes that had curing furs attached to them. Only a small lantern lit the room, which made it very dark.
After a while, the voice sounded again in his mind "you are an interesting one. You came back really fast, and it seems like you didn't loose your memories and personality."
Adam wanted to talk back, he wanted to insult that voice. He hated him so much, but he couldn't speak.
"So much hate. I like it! A shame there's nothing you can do about it.", said the voice with a mocking tone. The voice then added "It has already been three hours. Things are going to get more interesting really soon, hahaha."
After the voice went silent, Adam tried to understand what he meant, but couldn't. It was then that a man came rushing inside the house where he was locked.
"James! The dead! The dead came back to life!", said the newly arrived man in horror.
James turned to look at Adam one more time, and then rushed out while telling the other man guarding Adam to keep an eye on him and not to leave him alone.
It was then that Adam started feeling a thirst welling up in him. He felt so thirsty it started driving him crazy, but he was tied up and couldn't get away from the cage. He looked at the guard and had an intense urge to bite him and drink his blood, eat his flesh and consume him. He was starting to lose his sanity, but he somewhat managed to calm himself a little bit through great effort. After ten minutes or so, he had regained control of himself. He still felt really thirsty, and his blood was burning even more than before.
"Fascinating! You managed to hold it back and didn't turn into a basic thrall.", said the voice in his head. "I'll help you out a little. But you have to escape on your own."
As soon as the voice finished talking, the guard that was watching Adam suddenly walked to the cage and opened it. He then grabbed a knife, cut the ties and freed him. As soon as he did that however, he regained his sense and didn't know why he had done such a thing.
"kill him while he's still confused!", laughed the voice in Adam's head. To which he immediately jumped and bit the guard to the neck, tearing a chunk out. He then started drinking the guard's blood, which made his thirst lessen and then disappear. The burning pain in his blood also calmed down. Adam moved away from the now dead guard and started throwing out. He had killed a man and drunk his blood!
The taste was stuck in his mind. The blood tasted sweet and tasty. He'd gotten injured in the past and tasted his own blood, it hadn't tasted good at all that day. But this time, it tasted different. He quickly dispersed those thoughts and looked at the dead man. He knew him. This man was the father of someone he knew well. This depressed Adam who started feeling disgusted at himself.
The voice sounded again "If they comeback and see him dead, they'll immediately kill you. You should really consider running away...but that's just my opinion, hahaha."
Adam stopped for a minute to think about what to do. He wanted to kill that stranger who caused all of this. If he stayed here, he would certainly get killed by the villagers and would never get his chance at revenge. He had no choice but to escape!
He turned around and was leaving the house when he stopped in his tracks. He turned around and looked at the body on the ground. An idea sprung in his head and he immediately started to execute it.
