Before entering, he pulled on his gloves once more, then wiped off the doorknob and the locks, in case he'd inadvertently left prints. Then he crept into the darkness, closing the door behind him. The spring latch sneaked into place automatically. Because he wanted to leave no sign that the locks had been tampered with, he turned the knob that slid the dead bolt back into its socket.
