Devils whisper

*tap tap tap*

With one last tap, William finished what he was working on his computer. He looked at his overall work and felt satisfied. William felt his head aching, he massaged his temple trying to elevate the pain. After a couple of minutes resting his eyes and aching head. He looked at his phone. There were missed 5 calls and a ton of messages.

He looked at the call log.

Some were from Mia, others from her sister.

*Sigh*

He opened his messenger and started typing.

[I am sorry if I was unable to answer your call. I was in the middle of a meeting…

William wanted to input more words but decided that it was better to explain things face to face. He deleted some words before sending his message.

[I am sorry I was unable to answer your call.]

He felt that it was enough that he apologized. William looked at the time.

It was 2 am.

"No wonder sister was calling me too."

He wanted to call her sister but it was already late. He did not want to disturb her, therefore, he sent a text saying he was fine and was on his way home.

He recalled what happened at the meeting. He almost lost his calm with Melissa's provocations. He knew that he will not get anything out of exploding with anger, he knew he made the right call in not accepting Melissa's terms. He knew he did the right things, but there was still something deep down inside telling him his doubts. It was whispering doubts in his ears.

'What if you can't find another way to help your mother?'

'You can use her then leave her behind once your mother wakes up!'

'Use her and everything will be alright!'

Just like the whispers of the devil, there was a part of him that wanted to accept Melissa's conditions. William stood up from his chair and left the building with haste. He wanted to clear his head from all the negative emotions that he was having. He wanted to see Mia, but it was too late.

His steps became faster, larger, wider. His breathing started to get heavier. He started sprinting till he reached the exit of the building until he reached his car.

As he was about to open his car door.

*bzzzt bzzzzt*

His phone vibrated.

He reached for his pocket and tapped on the screen. His phone was unlocked, to his surprise, it was a text from Mia. His hands almost faltered from surprise, his phone almost slipped. It was a simple text and yet…

[It's fine. I understand since I know you're busy with work. Make sure to rest and eat properly. Your health is just as important as your work. :)]

It was a simple text and yet all his doubts were washed away. The negative emotions that were brewing in his head started to clear. It was enough to affirm his spirit.

He tightened his grip on his phone. There were a lot of words he wanted to convey at that moment.

It's not the best time.

He was sure that once everything is over, once everything calmed down, he would be able to convey all his feelings towards Mia.

Once he calmed down all his feelings, he opened his phone and started typing on the keys.

[You should rest too. It's late. I'll come by tomorrow. Let's have lunch. :)]

Once he finished typing, he went in his car and started driving his way home. His handsome face was adorned with a smile.

Mia who was waiting for William's reply was looking intently on her phone.

She was unable to sleep.

She kept fidgeting on the bed while waiting for William's text.

Her mind started to worry when it was way past midnight and she hadn't received any message from William.

*Ding*

Once Mia heard the notification, and her screen lighted up, she was fumbling to open the message that arrived.

[I am sorry I was unable to answer your call.]

"Oh. So he was busy."

She felt a little dismay when William's message seemed rather business-like. She wanted to complain but she knew better to complain to a person who was really busy with his work. She knew how busy he could get, she once worked with him in the company. She thought hard on what she would reply before she finally made up her mind.

[It's fine. I understand since I know you're busy with work. Make sure to rest and eat properly. Your health is just as important as your work. :)]

"I guess this should be fine, right?"

*send*

Mia was re-reading the message she sent. She was trying to figure out if she typed everything correctly.

*Ding*

Mia was surprised with the sudden reply. She hastily opened the message. She started to have butterflies in her stomach.

[You should rest too. It's late. I'll come by tomorrow. Let's have lunch. :)]

Once she read, re-read and read the message, a blooming smile appeared on her face. She couldn't help herself from giggling like a little girl when she made sense what the message implied.

"I'm going to see him tomorrow. Hmm, should I prepare something for lunch? It's going to be a short break so we couldn't go anywhere. Right, I should prepare something for tomorrow. I should get some rest because I have to prepare."

Mia's head was full of ideas of what to prepare for their lunch, or what they can talk about while eating. She lost track of time as the light from outside started to seep in the curtains of her room.
