"Rin...I'm sorry. If there's another lifetime, I'll never let you go." 

Years pass by in his life, yet he could never forget. The girl who was his childhood friend. The one he loved. The one who sacrificed her life for him. 

Maybe. Maybe if he had tried harder.... then she would still be alive. 

Some people tried to convince him to forget her. They say that it is God's will. So he hated God for taking her.

Now that he's dying, he swore on his soul that if there's another lifetime, he'll never lose her again. No matter who or what stands in his way. If one person comes, he'll kill one person. If two people come, he'll kill two. If God comes, he'll kill God. 

Never again will he lose her.

And maybe God pitied him. Maybe wishes do come true. Therefore he was reincarnated again. And he wasn't the only one reincarnated. The girl did as well.

Never Again

Not longer after Qiu Zhi allowed Xi Rin to accompany him, the two began their journey back home. On their way, they passed by a house that carried the strong scent of apples. They both immediately turned their head back to see a large apple tree in the house's courtyard. Large and luscious, the tree carried numerous red, delicious apples that were hanging just out of reach. At the sight fo those apples, both Xi Rin's and Qiu Zhi's stomachs grumbled.


Now normally, if this was any other house, Qiu Zhi would have just immediately picked a few apples and be on his merry way. However, this wasn't just any random house. It belonged to a specifically scary owner who guards his apples as though it was gold. He prided in having the most beautiful, delicious apples that even if he were to sell it in the capital city, it would sell out in seconds.


Furthermore, it was rumoured that once a kid tried to steal only one of his apple and he got so beaten up that even his mother didn't recognize him.


Remembering the rumour, the two adolescents shivered in slight fear. However, looking at that enticing, red and juicy appearance of those apples, the two decided to risk it all.


But there is one problem. Someone had to climb the tree, a job which is much more dangerous than being the lookout. So the two decided to settle it with a game.


"Rock- paper - scissors!" the two yelled, praying to God that they won't be the one who has to climb the tree.


Soon came the sounds of despair mixed in with the cries of joy and Qiu Zhi became the loser that got stuck with climbing duties.


So quietly, Qiu Zhi starts climbing the tree with Xi Rin below cautiously looking around everywhere for any sign of danger.


"Xi Rin, catch!" Barely finishing his sentence, apples began to fall from the tree. Xi Rin fumbled, trying to catch the apples before just using her robe as a basket.


However, after about 6-7 apples, Xi Rin suddenly stopped catching, letting the apples fall to the ground with a thud. She stilled visibly, frozen in her spot.


Baffled at her queer behaviour, "Xi rin, what is it? Why are you not catching the apples?"


"A-apples? Haha... what apples? I d-don't know no a-apples." Xi rin replied, her voice clearly trembling.


However, before he could even ask more questions, she's already madly dashing off. "RUN FOR YOUR LIFEEEE!!!"


Seeing her madly running, his brain's still confused until an angry voice answered all his questions.


Running towards him was a big, middle-aged man holding a whip. The man raised his hands as though he's going to crank the whip and Qiu Zhi immediately took that as his cue to leave.


However, once caught, it's almost impossible never to escape.


The man chased Qiu Zhi, threatening him. Qiu Zhi could only scramble while screaming for help.


Meanwhile, Xi Rin just hid behind a tree watching all the commotion within the safety of the shadows, as she calmly bit into an apple. 


As he ran, he suddenly caught a glimpse of a blue behind a tree and immediately knew it was Xi Rin. "Xi Rin, help!"


She just further hid behind the tree, disappearing from sight completely.


Thus, half of the afternoon was spent with Qiu Zhi running around. Meanwhile, Xi Rin was just silently eating in the background while watching it all.
