Pursuit In The Desert

Thankfully, Lance was quick enough to notice this and pull his arm out before the cavity completely closed. The fist missed by a few centimeters as he leaned back to avoid the punch.

Although the movements of the sand devil were fast when in a position, it seemed that they were slow in moving from a location to the other.

Lance looked back to see that the other 3 devils were attacking his team.

Darius and Entsy were currently holding them back while Yu Ying was in the driver's seat. Darius had made another wall of sand in front of them in which he had opened a hole for Entsy to kick out through.

The jeep rushed towards Lance who got on in a heartbeat.

"Go! They move slow. We will try to hold them back."

Lance shifted places with Yu Yan who had been sitting in the back.

Yu Ying shot off in the direction of the pyramid while the rest were on the lookout for materializing sand devils or comets.

There was no time to stop or rest as at intervals, heads could be seen coming out of the sand near them.

The number of heads seemed to increase as they got closer to the pyramid. The initial distance of 200 km rapidly decreased to 100 due to Yu Ying constantly pushing the jeep to its limit.

At the 100 km spot, a comet finally appeared. It shot into the sand near them while they swerved to avoid it.

More comets started condensing with the first one as increasingly bigger lasers started shooting at them, sometimes barely missing them.

The team was practically helpless. The only consolation was that all the threats seemed to be behind them rather than in front.

Noticing this, Lance pooled all of the barriers with Darius, making him their tank.

His duty was to get in the path of a laser in case it came towards them.

The distance to the pyramid was rapidly decreasing. The magnificent structure rose to the skies in front of them, looking like it was so close but actually being so far from them.

Around 50 comet-shaped objects and 100 sand devils were positioned around the pyramid.

The outer structure was made out of what looked like blocks of rock. An entrance was located on one side of the pyramid at a specific location as marked on the map.

It also required a very specific action to unlock. One had to push a certain block of stone in certain directions in a specific order to unlock the entrance.

In case this entrance had been discovered, most of the sand devils and comets would have been situated there. But, they were spread out around the pyramid.

Seeing this and thanking his lucky stars, Lance shouted, "Go to the left side of the pyramid! Darius, you have to hold them back for a minute while I open the entrance!"

Yu Ying nodded and proceeded in that direction.

Just as she turned, a thick laser beam hit the back of the jeep dead on.

One by one, the sound of barriers cracking could be heard while the jeep was sent almost flying forward.

They were 1 kilometer away from the entrance of the pyramid. The jeep landed askew and Yu Ying tried everything she could to set it back on track.

Meanwhile, the rest of the comets around the pyramid also condensed around the one following them. Now, only the sand devils were left in front.

Even one more laser would definitely wipe them off the face of the desert.
