The 10-Foot Giant

The cavern chose seemed to be endless, but it was at least gradually sloping upward which was a consolation. There were also turns frequently. The walls were so smooth that Lance and the rest wondered how humans had accomplished this without technology hundreds of years ago.

Eventually, they reached a huge room that was at least 30 feet high. It was empty except for more hieroglyphs on the wall. Lance studied these for a bit hoping that they would give some hint that they were going in the right direction.

In the middle of the room was a 12 foot by 5 foot sarcophagus. Lance ignored this as he knew that some rooms were known to contain huge sarcophagi like these but there were never any bodies found in them. He assumed that this was just another one of those.

the room was only 20 feet diagonally, so there wasn't much space to walk. Darius leaned on the sarcophagus, waiting for Lance to give the go ahead.

Suddenly, he felt vibration on his back. "Lance!", he shouted, turning back to see that the enormous lid was slowly opening.

"RUN!", Lance screamed, eyes wide seeing a humanoid figure with a jackals head rising out of the tomb while the lid sped up and fell to the side in an instant.

Because it was a small room with only an entry and an exit, the team managed to escape right before the giant stood up and looked around.

Its eyes were red with fury and it spoke in a language that none of them understood. The team were still running in the cavern terrified so they did not know just how much of a calamity they had avoided.

Standing at at least 10 foot tall, the giant move nimbly even though it carried a lot of mass. It would definitely have spelled the end of Team Lance.

Lance fervently hoped that they wouldn't have to return in the same route to leave. Even if they did, he hoped that that giant would sleep again and let them pass.

Running onwards, it was now clear that they were steadily approaching the top of the pyramid. At intervals, hieroglyphs with the capstone having some sort of rays entering it could be seen.

By Entsy's estimation of height, they would soon be at a level near the top. Overjoyed, Lance sped up.

After another turn, the team was shocked to see that the way forward was blocked.

A solid wall of sand was in their way. As if sensing their presence, heads started to form on the edge of the wall.

"It's the grey! It must be ahead of us!", said Darius, panicking seeing the increasing amounts of heads that were popping out.

Behind them was a giant that there wasn't even a chance of defeating. Ahead of them was a wall of sand and sand devils that they could at least try and defeat. The choice was clear.

"Yu Yan and Yu Ying, can you try to take control away from some of the sand devils? The grey must be controlling them with brainwaves, so hypnotizing them should work. If he tries to attack you, I'll immediately knock you out. Is that OK?", he asked. It would be very painful, both getting attacked by the grey and getting knocked out by Lance.

"Yes", they nodded with determination. The twins were also a part of the team and had been feeling a little bad that they hadn't performed as much so far as the rest had, especially Lance. Finally, they had a chance so they grasped it.

"Fighting formation. Lets kill that grey.", said Lance, bending his body and preparing to leap.
