Walking into the school she felt a tinge of nostalgia as she passed the familiar buildings. There were a lot of new students walking up to the school's main notice board to check which classroom they were going to be in for the rest of the year.
Wang Yu Xia already knew where she would be for the rest of the year, so it wasn't necessary for her to go and check it. Instead, she walked straight into the classroom. Besides her, there was a medium-haired blond boy who seemed to be deciding where to sit.
System: "Wow he's arrived early!"
Wang Yu Xia nodded. She knew this boy. If she remembered correctly, his name was Zane Harris, one of the international exchange students that the school had invited. She vaguely remembered him as he had disappeared 3 months later.
Thinking this, she frowned.
"Hey boy!" she called out in English.
Suddenly hearing someone talk in English seemed to have startled the boy because he immediately turned around to see who was talking. Upon seeing it was a Chinese girl, he was surprised.
"You speak English?" he asked.
Seeing his surprise, she suddenly remembered something and swore out loud.
"F*ck! I can speak English! That's right…"
Seeing her swearing in English, he was even more startled.
Children weren't supposed to say bad words!
"Sorry? What did you just..?" he asked, afraid he had heard wrongly.
Seeing his confusion, Wang Yu Xia nearly swore again but held back when she realised it too.
"W-what's your name?!" seeing there was no other way she could fix the situation, she stuttered and acted as if she hadn't said anything earlier. Instead, asking the most normal question ever.
"Oh. I'm Zane Harris! Nice to meet you!"
"Mm. I'm Yu Xia Wang. Just call me Yu Xia from now on. Wang is my surname." she forced a smile as she rather uncomfortably said her name in English. After all, westerners seemed to love saying their names backwards.
"Okay, Yu Xia," he said rather excitedly.
After hearing his response, Wang Yu Xia went to sit down at a seat near the window at the back of the classroom. This seat had been the one assigned to her back then, and she felt it was natural to sit there.
Soon, more kids began to enter the classroom and choose their seats. Meanwhile, Wang Yu Xia had sat down, minding her own business by staring outside the window.
From the corner of her eye, she had seen Zane run over and sit next to her after much deliberation, to which she just chuckled inwardly and continued staring at the view outside the window. For some reason, Zane just reminded her of a stray cat. After about 15 minutes, everyone had taken their seats and the teacher had already arrived.
No. 9 Middle School was a private school that taught in a British style and welcomed international students from abroad. The school was affiliated with Westminster School and the London School of Economics and was really prestigious in Beijing as it gave many students the chance to live abroad and many foreigners to come to China. As a 12-year-old, the old Wang Yu Xia hadn't experienced this system before and had thus found it weird at first. However, to the Yu Xia from now, it was more than normal. Having lived abroad from university up until her death, she was already used to this system and thus had no problems getting used to such a system. Especially one she had experienced herself before.
As such, when the teacher arrived, she was all ready to receive her lectures. But she had forgotten that on the first day of middle school, all students received a 1-hour tutorial lesson that explained the school's education system and how it differed from the normal Chinese educational system as well as all of the future career choices the students could make.
From the first day, any normal person could see that this school was quite strict in their teaching methods and encouraged the children to think about the future from quite early on. Unfortunately, Wang Yu Xia had to sit through the whole tutorial session looking like she had never heard of it before.
She had to admit, this bored her to death.
So halfway through the lesson, she lost concentration and begun to chat with the system instead.
"So, how exactly does this work? Are you going to give me any missions and threaten me to do them? What about my golden finger?" she asked the system on her mind.
The system pondered for a bit before replying.
System: "Do you want me to threaten you? To be perfectly honest, I myself am not a system. I am a God. The system itself is like a game interface. The moment it decides you're ready for a mission, it will give you a mission. It has its own AI. So the moment you hear a robotic male voice in English will be the moment you get a mission! As for golden fingers… I am a God, I can be considered one right?"
At his carefree response, Wang Yu Xia nearly face-planted the desk.
"Wait, wait, wait. Then you don't know either?"
"Nope." denied the voice.
"Hold on, then who are you?"
Hearing this question, the system was silent for a moment and then replied care-freely.
"I'm a God. I was caught by the system together with you. As for my name, you may call me Eros. Previously known as the God of Love! Tehee~"
"So you're really a God?" Wang Yu Xia was startled, she had never thought that this very annoying voice was actually a God from Greek Mythology!
"Time for class now, Little Xia. I can call you that right?" he teased.
"Miss Wang. Miss Wang? Is Miss Wang here?"
Right before she could reply, the teacher who had at some point begun to take the register had called her name. As a form of reflex, she instantly replied in english.
"Here!"
After getting back to reality, she immediately noticed a middle-aged woman with a tidy appearance staring at her in surprise from the front of the classroom. Noticing her surprised look, she immediately realised what she had done wrong.
Oh crap.
