After spending roughly 30 minutes to mentally categorize the various plants and trees into two separate groups, (the non-poisonous and the poisonous) he decided it was time that he learned some magic.
Picking up the three premium skill books he had earlier placed safely against the Archway, he examined them once more as he tried to decide which one he should start with.
"Hmm, I think I'll start with this one."
Selecting the fire magic book, he examined the leather bound tome and its artistic cover admiringly before gently grasping the covers edge with his hand. Exerting a minimum of force upon it he was shock to discover it would not budge even the slightest bit.
In silent disbelief of the skill books unspoken defiance, he firmly gripped the books edges once more, this time exerting all of his strength as he pulled outward, but regardless of this all-out exertion the book still remained tightly shut.
Frustrated, he began to desperately employ a variety of unusual methods in order to open the book. He tried twisting it, "TWIST" "TWIST" "TWIST" rubbing it, "RUB" "RUB" "RUB" tickling it, "TICKLE" "TICKLE" "TICKLE" licking it, "SLURP" "SLURP" "SLURP" complementing it, "What a lovely spine you have, and that cover, such a lovely red color, you're so solid, do you work out, I don't think I've ever seen such a good looking book before" he even tried begging it, "OH WISE and POWERFUL BOOK, please bless this lowly worm by granting him even the slightest of glances at your sacred pages", method after method, he pour his all into each attempt, finally however with no results he reached the limit of his patience and began banging it on the ground shouting angrily "Open Open Open, "BANG" stupid book, "BANG" why, "BANG" won't "BANG" you "BANG" OPPEEENNNN!!!"
But even that was pointless, no matter how hard he banged it or how much he cursed at it the book still remained shut and undamaged.
Reaching the very limits of his patience his mind quickly changed gears as he switch from his normal mode into his intellectual mode, during which he increased his intellectual capabilities by threefold.
Switching to Intellectual mode he quickly realized the futility of his current methods which primarily involved the application of blunt force via banging the book on the ground.
Do to his erroneous acts he momentarily called for a cessation of his current actions and began to seriously consider alternative means to achieve his principal goal. Considering his options, he suddenly felt his mind illuminate as he realized that he had neglected to consult his principal source of information, the codex.
Reading the index he quickly found the prevalent chapter. Turning to page 257, [Chapter 13 - Skill Books and Their Usages]. Skimming through the chapter he began to laugh hysterically as he realized the Neolithic incompetence of his previous actions before he suddenly stopped to ask himself, Why? He suddenly realized how strange it was that it had taken him so long to think of the codex.
Now that he began to slowly considered the series of action he had employed, in order to open the skill book, he realized how irrational his actions had been. Pondering his odd behavior, he finally came to the conclusion it was probably caused by his low stats. This was a serious problem, he would have to work quickly so he could remedy this dire dilemma.
Grasping the red book, he placed his right hand onto the cover and said "LEARN".
