Chapter 10

Aaron followed Malone to greet the newcomer. The carriage which arrived was much different than the one in which Aaron travelled. This one was fully covered and made out of wood with intricate designs and carving done. It gave a victorian era feel to the carriage.

Pulling the carriage were 6 horses which were much larger then whatever Aaron had seen, be it earth or here.

He saw both Malone and Anderson look at the carriage with wide eyes. It was obvious even they haven't seen any thing like it before.

From the carriage stepped down a young looking man. Atmost he would be 25. He dressed smartly. Or whatever passed as smart here. Tight pants. Shirt. And a jacket to top it off. The clothes seemed to be skin tight. But the man kind of pulled it off.

Seeing him get off, Malone moved forward.

"Greetings. I am Malone, the caretaker for this branch of the mage association. I welcome Sir to Rensworth city."

"Hello Mr. Malone. I am Ryan. I have come over to pick the mage candidate. I dont require any formalities. I do want some water and feed for the horses. I need some food for myself and then I will leave after you fill my supplies for the return journey.

Ryan said everything in the same breath without giving anyone a chance to speak in between. It felt he was a man who spoke directly whatever was in his mind without caring for others.

"But Sir, the king of Rensworth had prepared for a feast in the evening for you. It would be our honour and his if you could grace the occasion." Malone said.

"No. I know he wants to entertain me and perhaps ask for a favor or two. But I dont have the time for all that. A day wasted here means I am one day late for my research which I believe is more important than this social obligation. I would ask you to do as I said." Saying that Ryan briskly walked into the building.

Malone was in a sour mood. But he followed swiftly without arguing.

Aaron watched the scene unfold. He also noticed the mage badge he had on him was of a different colour than Malone. Maybe he is of a higher rank thought Aaron.

He too followed them in.

Malone guided Ryan towards the sitting area.

"Sir, this is Aaron. The canditate who successfully passed the mage test." Malone quickly introduced Aaron to Ryan.

"Greetings Sir Ryan." Aaron greeted Ryan.

"Hmm. You look composed enough. That will do for now. I want you to pack your stuff and say all the necessary good byes. Once I am ready to go, I wont wait for you. I will leave without you."

Wasnt this person too absurd? He came all the way for me. And was ready to leave without me? This kind of attitude was indeed unexpected for Aaron. But he decided to move with the flow.

"Yes Sir. All my things are packed. And I have already said goodbyes to my parents. Only my teacher is here. I can leave whenever you say." Aaron said to Ryan.

"Thats good. Saves the hassle."

Turning towards Malone "Mr. Malone arrange some food for me. I am hungry."

Although it was still some time to go for lunch. Ryan ate a lot. It seemed he was hungry or maybe he was a brunch person.

After the food was finished. Malone tried to make some small talk with Ryan. Ryan just gave short answers like he wasnt interested and lied down on the sofa to close his eyes for a bit.

Aaron tried to decipher what kind of personality Ryan had. Were all mages like that? But the ones he saw in the mage association branch werent as much. It might be his personality which is such.

As Aaron pondered, someone came to them and informed that the horses were watered and fed. And the rations for their journey was provided for.

"Alright Mr. Malone. I will be on the way." "Aaron. You got 2 minutes. Hurry up. "

Saying that he walked out.

Aaron was surprised that he was given 2 minutes to say goodbye to his teacher. Looked like Ryan wasnt totally inconsiderate, no matter how he pretended to be otherwise.

"Mr. Anderson, I want to thank you for all that you have done for me. You taught me. You brought me for testing. You brought me here as well. This is something I really appreciate and I will remember what all you have done for me. "

"You know Aaron, you talk like a grown up. Those arent the words a kid is supposed to say." Anderson laughed.

"You have been my best student. Just remember this old man in the future when you become famous. That will be enough for me. Now go hurry, dont make Mr. Ryan wait."

As Aaron said farewell, he could see tears in Anderson eyes. That touched his heart. He had never seen anyone other than both of his mother cry for him.

Aaron moved towards the carriage with a heavy heart.

As he entered the carriage and the carriage started to move. He couldnt help but turn back towards Anderson and wave a good bye.
