"Get the work finished by the time I am back. We need those space rings ready soon. "
"And what about those lighters? They need them for the construction work around the city centre. "
"Yes Mage Sharon. I will get it done." Aaron said.
"Good. You need to learn these smaller things first before I let you do something important. " Said Sharon with a sense of superiorty and left Aaron alone to his work.
Sharon was a classic middle aged beauty. It could be seen she was very pretty when she was younger with perhaps a lot of admirers. Although she wasn't at her prime any more, she still looked lovely. She wasn't all that bad in treating Aaron either. She demanded he do the work allocated to him timely. She just didn't put Aaron in her eye at all. For her, he was just someone who was working under her.
As for Aaron. He could only listen to her. She was his immediate senior who he reported to at the artifact making centre he was allocated to.
He had to finish the 20 half finished space rings. The storage was already done, he had to link a key to each storage.
He was used to seeing a simple key before. At most it would be a little item which could be used as a simple jewellery. But what he saw at Tulip city left him astonished at first. The keys was lavishly decorated with previous stones and metals. They even used magestone to just make it look even more expensive.
Rich truly had a different standard for things. Things had to look expensive as well. It was perhaps a show of wealth for them. Aaron looked at his own simple space ring. It was just a little more than a metal band with a magestone.
The 'lighter' Sharon mentioned was a useful little tool. It wasn't something which ignighted things. No, it was exactly like its name. It made things lighter.
This was a useful little tool which helped with heavy work. You just needed to attach the artifact to anything which you wanted to make lighter. Once it was stuck on something, it would make it float a few inches above ground and allow anyone to push it around with very little energy. It only moved till some one was applying force on it. Once you stopped applying force, it went still.
The artifacts came with different strength which depended upon the level of the mage who made it. Right now Aaron could make something which could be used on things up to 300 Kgs.
Such artifacts were worth their price at construction sites. They could be repeatedly used and made the work a lot easier. Rich also used it to make their luggages lighter during journey. It was another display of wealth for them. The lighters for the rich came in intricate designs. They sometimes resembled the family insignia which was put on chests and baggages of the rich.
Another use for lighter was in transportation. It seemed the problem had with his hover board was common for everyone. You could only make a thing float with a mage stone. You couldnt use a mage stone to control the direction which it was supposed to move. You could attach a single directional spell on the object with a help of a mage stone but the result wasn't something people liked.
Once such an enchantment was placed on a object, it continued to move in that single direction unless the magestone was out of power or the object hit an obstacle.
But lighters were still useful on their own. The ones made by higher level mages could support even light carriages. A few hundred Kgs was something a higher level mage could manage.
Such carriages were easier to pull by the horses and offered a bump free ride.
Lighters effect didn't add on unfortunately. Two 300 kgs lighter couldnt work on something weighing 600kg. It would only move something of 300kgs at max.
The floating carriages once again was a show of wealth for the rich. They went to extraordinary length to get one these things. High level space mages who could built such powerful lighters could be counted on one hand. As a result such products were really exclusively luxurious if nothing else.
It sounded like Aaron was a little jealous of the rich. He really was. He had been at Tulip city for over two months now. He had realized how poor he was only once he reached Tulip city.
Tulip city. Words failed to describe what it was like. It didn't perhaps compare to modern cosmopolitan cities in terms of high rises and population but if Aaron had to rate it, he would perhaps rate it higher than all those modern cities.
Tulip city had it's own high rising minarets and buildings. The streets were clean unlike any place he had seen. The sewage was underground and the roads were lined with street lights. The street lights were all magical in nature. Such extravagance had left Aaron awestruck the first time he noticed it.
The whole city gave a modernized feeling of an ancient city.
The city it seemed was almost divided into two major parts. The outer level and the inner level. The levels were divided upon the amount of money you possesed. The outer area mostly hosted the common people and lower grade mages. The inner areas accounted for the rich and wealthy of the humans as well the mages. The political power of humans as well as mages had one of their bases here.
The level you stayed in mostly depicted the prestige and influence you held. There wasn't too much of a difference in facilities otherwise.
The city was bustling with trade between individuals or groups of people. The main item of trade was ofcourse magestone itself and all artifacts made from it.
Not everything which was produced in the city was for open sale though.
Somethings were made on order or only sold through a fixed regulated channel. While some were only auctioned off once in a while.
Aaron presently couldn't even think about attending an auction. He would fail to make the minimum deposit required to join an auction.
He had come with a lot of hope to Tulip city. He was indeed welcomed with open arms by the mage association. His talent at his age was indeed very good.
But he wasn't alone with talent. He soon found out how important money and background was.
