On Berlin's first year, the Grand Duke invited some of his close confidants to celebrate his son's first birthday; it was also to introduce him to other nobles. The Grand Duke was excited to finally present him to the world. Look at my son! He looks fearsome! No one can be as adorable as my son! As a father, there are fewer things that can make him cry; the first was when his children were born; the second was when they were introduced as a Silverlance.
He can still remember when he had his first child. That murderous sleeping face on his, simple scared him, his own father. He even ran to his father, saying that his child inherited that face from him. It was all Grandfather Silverlance's fault for having that kind of face.
The Grand Duke silently cried to his heart. At least his first born has some friends from the academy; his second child started to make friends even if the other children were scared to move away from him. The only thing that worried him was his daughter. Oh his sweet daughter, how can a man fall for you if you look at them like you wanted to tear them apart? His daughter was only three this year, countless marriage was proposed but when those boys saw his daughter they immediately run behind their father, one even peed himself. He had never seen a boy that scared witless. Ay, he can only sigh for their future, praying for his youngest son to be happy.
"Efrain, my friend, I see that you birthed another son! Ha! His face did not fall behind the others." A middle-aged man laughed as he made his way to the Grand Duke. This man was one of the Grand Duke's close friends, Lord Amberwind.
"Ah, I had even prayed to the temple just to give a cute and lovable child but it seems that our family's features are just too strong." The Grand Duke shook his head.
Lord Amberwind patted his shoulders and smiled at him. "He is cute and lovable just like his siblings. What is there to sigh for? I really envy you for having two sensible sons. Just look at mine! My eldest lead his younger brother astray to ran all over the city, making even their guards loses their mind finding them." A few veins popped on Lord Amberwin's forehead while mentioning his unruly sons. The Grand Duke gave him a look of pity. He then thought that his sons are the best compared to other children their age.
"Speaking of sons, I seem to not have seen them today? Did you not take them with you?" The Grand Duke asked the mourning Lord Amberwind.
"I took them with me today, I think they went to see Adekin and Thomas," Lord Amberwind said.
Meanwhile, at Adekin's room, tiny colorful heads huddled together like a bundle of flower. Adekin and Thomas were silently listening to the other boys. They were all their friends from the academy; Brently and Nilson from the Amberwind family; and Raymond from the Hazeore Family. These three children can be considered as their close friends. Surprisingly, the three of them did not felt scared when they first met Adekin and Thomas especially Brently. He was beaming when he met Adekin in their class. He said that he befriends interesting people like Adekin. He did not even felt a slightest fear when talking to him which Adekin felt gratitude for.
The five children swarmed a book that Raymond brought; it was given to him by his father. It was a book regarding beasts and their nature. Brently happily pointed a beast. "Look at this one, it looks so much like you Adekin," he giggled. His younger brother also gave a laugh because the beast really reminded him of the brothers.
"I do not look anything like that. I have no horns, stupid," Adekin spoke while giving his friend a funny look. The beast that was pointed resembled a huge brown wolf with four horns on its head looking murderous with its intimidating appearance.
"Why are we even here?" Confused, Thomas gave his brother a questioning look. Adekin rubbed his brother's hair. "Mother said that we must mingle with the guests with father," Thomas added.
"Oh Tommy, Lady Silverlance just wanted you to be exposed to other nobles, much like Berlin, but he is just a baby," Brently smirked.
"I want to see your youngest brother," Raymond suddenly spoke. He always wanted to have a younger brother running up to him but sadly he was born last and had two older brothers.
"He's with mother." Adekin stood up and patted his clothes. "Do you all want to go see him?"
Thus, the five children pitter pattered their way to the hall where they saw Berlin being carried by his personal maid, Lulie. She was assigned by Lady Silverlance to take care of Berlin. She looks young at the age of 28. Lulie was a kind and sensible maid hired by the Lady that was recommended by one of their trusted confidants. The Lady was satisfied by the way she works and the way she handles her youngest son. The maid can also use magic albeit not that strong; at least she could protect herself and Berlin to some dangers.
"No one can doubt that he is your brother," Raymond muttered through his breath. Although it was supposed to be a whisper, the others still heard it.
"He's adorable, isn't he?" The three boys only gave the Silverlance brothers a wry smile. Nilson stared at the baby and slowly shook his head. "That baby looks scary."
When Thomas heard it, he gave the boy a piercing glare. Nilson gave a squeak and hid behind his brother. He can feel all his hair stood its ends. I guess this is goodbye, he though while he silently cried inside. So scary!
Brently gave a dry laugh and stepped aside to reveal his younger brother. I'm sorry brother; Adekin looks like he plans on murdering me tonight. Blame it all to your mouth ah!
While the two were sweating nervously, Raymond noticed that the baby appears to be throwing daggers at the two by its eyes. He prayed for the Amberwind brothers to be given leniency. Even the baby wants to kill you two! Just agree to what they say! If they say he's adorable then he's so damn adorable!
This was the first time that Berlin met his brothers' friends and he immediately wanted to tie the two and give them a harsh beating. It was not his fault he was born with this kind of face! And he was not scary at all! He just look too serious like his brothers. Mother even said that he was the most lovable child in the whole kingdom ah! If he wanted to, he can curse the two with flowery words!
Berlin can already talk with simple words. His first word was 'brother' because of his older brothers' persistent talks. He had no choice but to satisfy them. Their father was the most affected by it saying that he should have said 'Daddy' or 'Papa'. He grumbled to their mother while giving his sons a glare. This old man was too much of a son-con; how much more when it comes to his only daughter?
"Lulie let me play with Lin!" And speaking of daughter; Avina Roseia Silverlance, the only daughter of the Grand Duke came with her little stuffed toy in her hands. The white haired girl stared at her brother's friends. She had heard what Nilson said about their beloved little brother and that made her good impression of him decreased by a lot. Nilson, on the other hand, was trembling quietly, praying that he shouldn't've said those words.
"Yes my lady." Lulie smiled and bowed before letting go of Berlin to let him stand on the ground. He can already walk at such a young age that even the whole Silverlance household was greatly terrified of his development.
"Vina!" Berlin slowly made his way to his big sister. This big sister of his was very sweet and attentive of him. He loves his sister very much because she always read him books and even though it was for children, he still likes to listen to her cute voice. Who wouldn't like to be cared for by a girl? She may still be a child but she'll definitely be a beauty when she grows up.
Avina stepped to help her little brother while their older brothers were waiting at the side in case he falls. Standing at the side was Lulie; she was watching them happily. Her young master can now walk and as his maid, she was simply joyous.
"Avina, why don't you join us?" Raymond proposed. It would not be good they were to leave her behind while playing. Avina looked up and slowly nodded while holding Berlin's little hand on her right and her toy on her left.
"That would be great then. I brought my board game with me, we can all play it together," Brently beamed.
"What board game? The one you were bragging about?" Raymond raised his eyebrow at him then rolled his eyes. Nilson just laughed at the sight. "Big brother really loves that game; he was hugging it to sleep," he teased.
"Oh shut your mouth Nilson. This game is popular." Brently harrumphed at his brother's teasing. He left them at the parlor. When he returned, he got his butler following him behind while carrying something.
"Abner, you can place it on the table and let them see," Brently ordered his butler. All of them gasped especially Nilson. He thought that his brother was talking about his favorite board game, the one that has five kingdoms!
"As you can all see, this board game was deemed as the most terrifying board game in all corners of Preulia." Brently raised his nose high up to the sky, bragging his most precious board game. Abner, the butler by his side was silently sweating. He was shocked to see the board game; he thought that the young master brought something that was in accordance to their age and not this killer game. "Young master, this board game was supposed to be locked inside the Master's chambers. Please let me return it before the Master find out," Abner nervously said.
"Quit talking Abner. It is fine if father would not find out, right? What he didn't know wouldn't kill him." Brently smirked then laid his hand on the table with a bang.
"B-brent, are you sure this is alright? You do know that this game was banned a hundred years ago." Raymond was worried. He wouldn't have thought that he could be this daring to show the board game in front of them, much less if they play with it. They would surely be killed; if not killed by the game, they would definitely killed by their father.
"Oh come one Ray. Don't be such a coward. We'll play for a little while."
Adekin could not take it anymore as he entered their conversation, "We're still kids Brently. In fact, we have a one year old Berlin here with us. Are you sure you want to play this right now? What if something happens and we got stuck inside the game like what happened to the people before?" His eyes were sharp; clearly showing his displeasure. He was also worried like Raymond. The board game in front of them killed fifty people; they played the game and got stuck on its illusion. The inventor was executed for indirectly killing the players.
Brently lowered his head in shame and annoyance. "What a bummer! I just want to finish the game with you all!" Abner comforted his disappointed young master.
"He's right brother. Father will absolutely punish us when he found out that you sneaked the board game outside," Nilson cried without tears.
"Shut up all of you! We're not even sure if the game was really that dangerous. The accident happened centuries ago! What if it's just a myth made just to not let the people play this? Besides, there are levels depending on our age." Brently still did not give up on persuading them to play the board game. He knew that it was risky but he still want to play the game because of something that he read before on his great grandfather's diary. It was said that the game became famous because it encompasses the Five Great Kingdoms that was known for their glorious achievements.
"Brently you daft cow[1]!" Raymond fumed. He feels as if his nerves are going to pop because of his dumb friend.
"Who are you calling a large woman?! I am not large!" Brently countered.
The others found themselves speechless. So he was not ticked off by being called a woman but because of being called large? He was not even aware that he was called dumb, not a large woman.
"I think your brain must have some problems that even magic cannot fix. Wait, do you even have a brain?"
"Raymond, if you won't shut that mouth of yours, I will definitely not let you play with us." And with what Brently said, Raymond gasped. He was shocked. Did his friend just block him?
"How dare you! I don't even want to play that dangerous game!" His eyes started to redden.
Oh my dearest god! These children are such a pain in the ass! Are they even the sons of a known noble?! Berlin thought that these children may have matured because of their status but he was awfully wrong. They are all just children ah! They cannot even compare to his siblings' nails! He thought that all noble children would be taught to mature earlier than other normal children!
"You look so adorable Berlin." The silent Avina, who did not even participated on the boys' conversation suddenly talked.
Sister that was so random ah! Why did you suddenly decided to talk now?! It was even out of the topic! The boys fell silent and stared at the love struck face of Avina.
