The Secretary who Brought Magic

The morning hustle and bustle of the Crimson City annoyed Lai Mingjie to no end. He had to deal with his headache by plugging his ears to keep the loud noises from racking his brain. Lai Mingjie's physical body was weak, sickly, and fragile. A simple all-nighter was enough to make him dizzy the day after, which was why his father was a little worried about handling him the company. However, his father had no idea that Lai Mingjie would never inherit the company.

Since he was in no mood to be talked with, Xu Rouguang—the slave—had to do mostly everything. It wasn't like he was not happy doing so. With Lai Mingjie keeping the aviators in his possession, he didn't have to wear too many layers even at this season. Of course, with the minimum of a work shirt and a suit, Lai Mingjie's slim frame could easily be spotted. Xu Rouguang's eyes had been twinkling ever since this morning even if he didn't sleep at all.

The general entered the Bloodvein Café's front entrance to buy coffee for his boss. The regulars that witnessed the fuss last night had grown hostile and glared at the immortal standing before them. Even the clerks were eyeing at him differently.

Botangca had told them not to engage with Xu Rouguang and just treat him like a normal customer. They were forbidden to speak about it, but Botangca emphasized that Emodao had control over the immortal. Whatever the immortal asked for would always be for the café's cash cow.

However, the man before them today was not the man from last night. Xu Rouguang wasn't bothered by the stench of indecency and the dancing lights of indulgence, and so he was smiling warmly. His gaze was so soft that the demon servants forgot he was an immortal—wrong, they just forgot he was a male immortal. It was natural for demons to loathe the male immortals who hunt them down, but they would kill other demons just to covet the immortal princesses. Not only was their flesh delicious, but those females were also very easy to the eyes.

"Took you so long." Lai Mingjie removed one of his earplugs just to hear an explanation. He had been waiting for so long that they only had ten minutes before work starts. He never waited for more than thirty minutes for a coffee from Bloodvein Café. There was no one in line as well.

"The barista was stunned and so distracted they had to redo the coffee four times." Xu Rouguang only had a small smile on his lips. He didn't know why the demon baristas were staring at him like they were being asked to a buffet... by the meals themselves. He handed one cup to Lai Mingjie while he carried two to their office. It would be too late to stop by and drink so he would drink his when he had the time.

People in JT weren't used to seeing Lai Mingjie wearing too little. He was the son of their big boss and the future big boss, and so they saw him every day. No single day in JT was he seen wearing less than three layers, only varying in fabric depending on the weather. Everyone knew that their boss had very poor health so they couldn't help but worry about seeing him in normal garments. Moreover, they would also notice that Xu Rouguang was doing the same. Oh, my, was the new secretary being a bad influence on the boss?

Then again, the younger females were voting 'yes' to the change. They had never seen Lai Mingjie's shape with all those thick coats and jackets; they felt so blessed seeing him in such a rather cool-looking ensemble. So professional and intimidating at the same time. They couldn't also miss the fact that Lai Mingjie was wearing his thin-coat aviators, letting them see his eyes despite the dark glass.

Not to mention that Xu Rouguang was also a dreamboat. No one knew who he really was, but he just appeared next to Lai Mingjie one day. He wasn't a loathsome person; he was kind to everyone he met. Even the utility personnel felt respected by this man... unlike how they were treated by those who worked on their floor. They probably wouldn't count Lai Mingjie and Liu Qiu who they ran away from. There was a certain atmosphere around Xu Rouguang that made people sought for him even if they needed nothing from him.

Ah, a deity descended from the heavens! That was what he was! A real deity... unlike those they worship because of money and fame.

Xu Rouguang was taking sips from his coffee as he checked Lai Mingjie's schedule for the next three weeks. It was slowly getting filled up by appointments and meetings, but he was skillfully organizing them just to make sure they would always have lunch and dinner together. Even Liu Qiu was surprised how he could bargain with his counterparts just so they would move appointments that would disturb Lai Mingjie's lunch. Besides, his boss did say that he never wanted lunch and dinner meetings. That was why those executives would never get them no matter how hard they tried.

Of course, their simple office life continued to trail on for weeks. Even the other directors were being intrigued by Lai Mingjie's miraculous schedule and arrangements. They all knew Lai Mingjie hated dealing with people and that he had a record for skipping meetings if not attending late—for no reason. He would only attend like normal if it was his father who called for it.

Who knew there would be a day where Lai Mingjie would have a complete, spotless record for an entire month? He also looked satisfied every time even if they knew he could be volatile. The people in the Finance floor were also getting more and more productive despite getting lower stress levels. This was impossible for a department that dealt with money and painstaking analysis, tight schedules, and way strict bosses. However, it seemed that there was magic happening on the floor.

These rumors and stories never missed the ears of other directors, especially Director Cheng and—surprisingly—Director Huang. Who in that elevator ride had forgotten how he tried to harass the new secretary who seemed to have brought the magic with him? Of course, Director Huang grew more and more interested in that presumptuous secretary who cut skin through his nails.

At an after-meeting, Director Huang went up to Lai Mingjie who was just exiting. "Director Lai, please."

Lai Mingjie turned to him and bowed a bit to his senior. "Director Huang, is there anything I can help you with?"

"Nothing really. I was just wondering why you never took your other secretary to meetings. He should see how these go from time to time." Director Huang chuckled as his hand somewhat crawled across the back of Lai Mingjie's waist. However, before he could see the angry gaze of the other, his finger was picked by someone's fingers with long nails. He almost roared at the person; it was good he could control himself. "Who the—?!"

"Director Huang, please. Can I snatch my son from your... hands?"

"Ah, Mother?" Lai Mingjie twitched as he had no idea his mother had entered the meeting room. No wonder why everyone had seemed to have gone quiet.
