It's Going to be Okay

Too friendly.

It was the impression that was being imprinted on Yu Shenqi. This male was too friendly not to have any ulterior motives. Did he have a sister? Or was it for himself? Yu Shenqi's eyes never left Xu Rouguang before she called out Lai Mingjie to lunch. She had to make sure she could plant seeds of doubt so Lai Mingjie wouldn't grow so close to this person.

It worked like magic—her words. Lai Mingjie didn't even refuse despite his visible—better yet, audible— protest. The secretary didn't make any noise as well as if he was not dejected for having the director taken away.

She was a good investigator. The mother had already known that Xu Rouguang was too close to Lai Mingjie, and everyone in the finance floor could say the same. They were like friends more than boss-secretary. Since he was a referred character that Director Cheng—a friend of Duan Sheng's—accepted quite swiftly, Yu Shenqi wanted to take drastic measures. Who knew if this man was already steps into his plans?

"Have a great lunch, director."

That was what he said as Lai Mingjie waved a little without looking at him. Liu Qiu only bowed as she saw Lai Mingjie leaving. However, that plain reaction from Liu Qiu made Yu Shenqi shocked by how Xu Rouguang would send him off. Too friendly...

Her sharp eyes had grown wide as she continued staring at the male. Lai Mingjie noticed the look on his mother's face, and he only sighed. He then yawned: "Mother, let's go. I'm starving."

Yu Shenqi only glanced at her disrespectful son before leaving as well. Liu Qiu and Xu Rouguang exchanged gazes as they were surprised, confused, and frightened by her reaction.

Yu Shenqi and Lai Mingjie took the private elevator for executives all the way down the parking lot. The mother hummed as she watched his impatient son.

"Jie, you're letting your secretaries call you 'Jie'? Aren't they getting too intimate with you?" Yu Shenqi couldn't emphasize enough that she was worried that someone would take advantage of her son's kindness.

Unlike most young masters of big families, Lai Mingjie wasn't picky with who to mingle with. If a homeless man started telling tall tales to him, he would sit down on the street and listen. She knew how much her son loved listening to old tales... stories about the gods, immortals, and the demonkind. Because of this, some had even tried to use this to bait him. When would he learn to avoid suspicious people?

"Intimate? Haha, no need to worry about that, Mother. They're good." Lai Mingjie only waved his hand.

He knew why exactly his mother was like this. Ever since he was fifteen, he had already come into contact with those immortal goons. Needless to say, he got into trouble with them mostly all the time. These were the seeds that made his mother so suspicious of everyone who would grow near her son. What she didn't know was that all of those sprouted because of Lai Mingjie's mouth. Heh, of course, he would continue to deride those goons as much as they deride him.

"They're good... hmph, I'm not convinced. That Liu Qiu had no younger relatives, but that Xu Rouguang... he came here alone. I heard the late Director Duan took him in and sent him here. Jie—!" His mother grabbed his sleeve by the elbow and shook it lightly. "Is he seducing you? Tell Mother if ever you experienced anything disturbing."

"Seduce..." Lai Mingjie could only sigh. Well, yes, he did feel like he was being seduced. Moreover, he liked it. How could he possibly calm his mother down like he didn't even dare notice Xu Rouguang when he could slip at any moment? Ah, this was another headache.

The door opened, and Lai Mingjie walked his mother to the car where Lai Julong was waiting for them. A dozen of capable men also surrounded the car in case someone dared to attack them in JT's parking lot. Lai Mingjie entered the car and sat in the backseat with his mother while his father greeted them with impatience. The Lai family then took off and headed to a place to have a lunch-out.

Lai Mingjie sighed at the taste of the food served to them. It was top-class from a top-class chef, but it didn't taste similar to Xu Rouguang's cooking. Even to Botangca's recipes. It wasn't because the food was inferior; it was more about the presence of celestial ingredients. The bloodvein was a celestial ingredient that mimicked the taste of human blood in what the demons eat; Lai Mingjie was now very sure Xu Rouguang was putting something in the food as well. Despite the superb taste, it kept on falling short... like all the food he had eaten before coming to Bloodvein Café.

His parents were conversing regularly, but Lai Mingjie didn't have the mood to join their talk. He had an early-morning meeting that day... he had to be in JT around six. Xu Rouguang had been promising him his favorite meals every time he had a meeting so he was a little motivated to at least hear out these old people talk. It was a five-hour meeting, and he was supposed to eat something strongly laced with anything Xu Rouguang was putting in his food. Right now, he was just... too sad.

"Jie." Lai Mingjie almost jumped as he heard his name from his father's mouth. He lifted his gaze at his father's face. "Jie, why aren't you eating?"

"I'm not that hungry. Just tired." The son started putting food in his mouth while spying a glance at his watch. It was almost two, and he felt awful. He didn't want to have everything pile up in his office.

"...Are you looking forward to that share?" Yu Shenqi huffed as she savored her wine. "You're even letting your secretary bring homemade meals for you to eat. What is he? Your wife?"

"Mother, what did he do to attract your eyes too much? He's just being thoughtful." Ack, since when did he had to cover up for someone? He's so bad at it.

Lai Julong was a seasoned businessman. He could tell if someone was lying over the phone—much more if it was at his face. The father glared at their troublesome son before glancing at his wife that wanted him to help her out. "Jie, you know your mother has strong guts. How sure are you that man would never harm you?"

The demon king snorted inside him. To be honest, he had no guarantee Xu Rouguang wouldn't. Actually, he was so sure he would be killed by that man the moment he reverts to his normal self. Yes, Nuwa had cursed him not to die, but wasn't she the same person who dictated that every creation would die? It didn't matter how many times Xu Rouguang was decapitated; he would always survive. There's a big chance he could also break Nuwa's curse.

Even if Emodao loved the idea of finally dying for good, attaining it through General Xu's hands was a bitter thought. That maniac was the reason why he turned mortal in the first place.

"Mother, Father, please. You don't have to worry about it." Lai Mingjie waved his hand before putting it down as fast as he could. He looked at those two humans that unknowingly gave birth to a demon king. "It's going to be okay."

It's going to be okay... how funny. Perhaps, it wouldn't be okay anymore three years after.
