The stench of blood flooded everyone's noses. The immortals sent to stop the demons from advancing had been reduced to severed limbs, and the demon army kept on advancing. The king of the demon army seemed to be having a field day as he laughed out loud while walking through the battlefield. The hysterical survivors began attacking him one by one, but he only needed to swat them like flies.
Emodao was a proud demon king that wished to eradicate the gods and the immortals. Unlike other demons who wished to climb to heaven, he wanted to pull heaven down and spill all their treasures on earth. What was the use of climbing heaven if he wouldn't be able to get his hands on everything they owned?
"Look at all these pathetic beings!" Emodao laughed out as he killed every fly in one hit. "Just gaining some juice from heaven makes them think they're divine already!" He caught an immortal and bit half of him before chewing down his flesh and bones. The latter half was left in his fist which he held up to the sky. "Nuwa! Is this what you wanted? Seeing all these stupid humans die with false hopes in their eyes?!"
As if he was heard, a whiff of heaven and earth aura washed over them quickly. They even heard the survivors yell 'reinforcements' and ran towards the incoming army. Emodao squinted and saw twice the count of the immortals earlier. It was no problem... but there was something strange in the air. Soon enough, he recognized what it was, making him grin from ear to ear in excitement and hunger.
He then looked up the sky again and laughed out, throwing away the half-human in his fist. "Nuwa! Is this your surrender?! Sending down a god for me to eat?!" The demon king licked his teeth, cleaning the blood off of them. "Come and let me feast on your flesh, little god!"
Upon spotting the front-liners of the incoming army, Emodao roared and began running towards them. The demon army also cried in fury as they raced towards the enemy. With their invincible king leading them, what was there to fear?
However, it didn't take long before a strong aura washed over the fields like a tidal wave. Aside from Emodao, all the demons had a change in expression. A god... even if it was just someone who bore the blood of the gods, they knew it wouldn't be an easy battle.
What did it mean to bear the blood of the gods? It was to be able to tap into heaven and earth essence at will. It meant that these humans were richer in flavor, but they were harder to kill than normal people or even normal immortals. These delicate children were bound to be able to kill a demon or two if desperate.
Humans who bore the blood of the gods were like heavenly mediators to the humankind. They were adored and safeguarded, served and worshipped. Most of these children were female because they were made to be sent to the heavens. With their reputation, none of these children would be allowed to fight. To think that they would find one on a battlefield?
Then again, their king's favorite food was exactly this kind of existence. All the princesses bearing the blood of the gods that they captured were all eaten by their king. They were allowed to play with the women if they were their food... but not forever. If a captive lasted for three days, Emodao would eat her regardless of owner.
They were demons; they were beasts. Slavery was for humans.
Roars from both demons and immortals were heard as the two armies were close to colliding. However, a bright light flashed from the immortals and shot out like an arrow towards the demons. Emodao grinned as he scooped a boulder from the ground and hurled it towards the light. The boulder burst into pieces as the bright light assumed its real form, and that was the very first time they saw him...
The immortal that turned into a horrifying legend to the demonkind.
"Emodao!"
General Xu Rouguang held a spear at one hand and its chain on the other. With a rather elated yet crazed look on his face, he screamed before launching the harpoon-like weapon. If that was a normal immortal, they wouldn't even jump towards a battalion of ten-meter tall demons.
"Today's dessert!"
Emodao flicked the harpoon to the side, but he noticed that a strange wind controlled it to move, wringing its chain around his wrist. While his eyes were busy with the spear, Xu Rouguang came in like an arrow as he pulled himself towards the wrist—changing directions to get close to his face. He produced a blade hidden in his sleeve, planning to stab Emodao's eye with it.
"I've been waiting for so long to see you again!"
The demon king managed to evade the blade and had his cheek stabbed instead. He used his other hand to grab General Xu from his face. "What a noisy shrimp!"
General Xu glanced at the hand and kicked Emodao's face to get the blade out. The action disoriented the demon king as the kick wasn't exactly weak. The demon king recovered his balance and shook his arm to keep General Xu from swinging around. The general let go of the chain and struck a demon who was trying to catch him from beneath. He then hopped from its corpse to grab the chain again, swinging around the giant. However, he missed gauging the tail's movement which Emodao smacked him with.
The general was thrown away, but he was caught by another before they disappeared into the sea of immortals that clashed with the demon army.
...
Lai Mingjie groaned as he finally roused from his sleep. He felt his head was heavy from all the drinking that he forced his body to do. Ah, he hated this body so much.
The taste of the wine and the fruits were still his mouth, his breath becoming too fruity for his liking. He groaned again louder, lifting his hand to rub his eyes.
He dreamed of his glory days after drinking and falling asleep to the tune of a song. Inevitably, he remembered the first battle he encountered Xu Rouguang and his eternal screaming. It wasn't a good dream as it quickly turned into a nightmare.
Lai Mingjie turned his head to the side and saw Xu Rouguang sleeping like a child next to him. All was well until Lai Mingjie realized that he wasn't wearing his clothes from last night; did that prick take advantage of him again? He then moved a hand to smack the sleeping man next to him.
"Hey, Xu Rouguang! Wake up, you idiot!" He repeated the action until Xu Rouguang opened his eyes. However, those eyes that greeted him were so dark and cold like he was going to get massacred on the spot. "R-Rouguang, hey, w-wake up..."
"...dao..." A murmur came first. His arm then moved up Lai Mingjie's waist to his shoulder, and he pulled the demon king closer to him.
"Hey!" The other used his hand to cover Xu Rouguang's mouth before their faces even touched. Lai Mingjie's eyes widened so much as he was drawn too close. What made matters worse was that when their foreheads were against each other, Xu Rouguang's supposed dark eyes curved into crescents. He was smiling so much, knowing that only a hand was keeping him from a prize.
In contrast to Xu Rouguang's happiness, Lai Mingjie glared directly at those mischievous eyes in front of him... ignoring the fact that his cheeks were burning red.
