Heartache was all Brother Blue was feeling at the moment. He was rendered paralyzed by his wounds and by that incredible power Dunzhao had. He was a general from the second battalion, which only fell short to the ones belonging to the first battalion. That being said he was very capable of dealing with most of the demons they had all captured and killed before. Most of the ones in the Crimson City were sent to their deaths by Brother Blue.
Dunzhao was Emodao's right hand, and that was no secret in that. Based on what he remembered, Dunzhao wasn't this strong as they could easily keep him busy every time General Xu would isolate Emodao from his demon army. For the subsequent millennia, he had also grown his power to break through levels. He wasn't the same general as before.
However, the Dunzhao before him was truly indestructible. He was too strong—perhaps even stronger than Emodao had been before. Right now, he had no idea why Emodao was meeting with his old right-hand... and even why Dunzhao would dare kill his own king.
He wanted to participate, but he could only do so much. He took fire from Dunzhao and received the most damage. He was confident he could win... until the demon morphed into something more hideous. His demon power tripled, and Brother Blue couldn't even pierce through him anymore.
Watching everything unfold, Brother Blue could only close his eyes. Why wouldn't death come swiftly?
"It's...! It's General Xu!"
It only took a few words from one immortal to change the expression on everyone's faces. For a moment, the immortals had a glint of hope in their eyes while even Lai Mingjie—who lost his energy—started using his other arm to relieve his neck of the burden of carrying his body. Brother Blue chuckled softly. Ah, Death had indeed come.
Dunzhao wasn't unfamiliar to that name—the man who killed his king had come. He gnashed in fury before turning to where the immortal had seen him; however, he couldn't see anything. Honestly, even everyone else couldn't see anything flying towards them.
It was all because Xu Rouguang had this unique ability to fuse with heaven and earth energy around him. He could morph into an arrow of light and launch himself at the speed of sound; others could turn into balls of light as well, but they were bigger and slower than Xu Rouguang. If one didn't notice a weird flash of light across the sky, none of them could tell he was arriving.
Since the sun was on Dunzhao's eyes, he didn't notice the white arrow heading his way. The moment the immortals saw the general, he was already seconds away from the demon sentinel. What was shocking was that he didn't morph back when he should. He used his current form to dash through the arm holding Lai Mingjie, blasting it to throw both parties away.
Lai Mingjie's shrimp body was thrown away, but the white arrow took a turn before morphing back. Xu Rouguang caught him, twirled, and dragged his feet against the ground to stop his momentum. He then brought Lai Mingjie down. All of these were done with Xu Rouguang glaring at the demon sentinel.
Dunzhao didn't feel pain and had no idea what hit him until he woke up from the daze. When he came to, his right arm was already missing from the shoulder. Also, General Xu was standing next to Emodao who was wriggling in pain. He then roared as he moved to face the general who managed to hurt him even in this form.
"General Xu! How ironic of you to save Emodao! Is this enough proof that my once proud king had defected to the side of heaven?" Dunzhao sneered as he hissed black air through his teeth. He started stomping at the ground as if preparing for an attack.
"Who are you to talk to me?" Xu Rouguang spoke coldly as he narrowed his eyes some more. He then formed a ball on his palm and dropped it on Lai Mingjie. It then turned into a barrier to slowly heal his injuries. He then made another and threw it to the side, hitting Brother Blue. "Radiant Serpent East, was it? Take Emodao and your injured men away from here. If you do anything else to Emodao"—his ice-cold gaze pierced through Brother Blue's soul—"I will kill you."
The light ball turned out to be a dense dosage of heaven and earth energy. Brother Blue managed to have his wounds healed to the point that he could move. He ran towards Lai Mingjie and picked him up before running off to urge the patrol unit to leave. However, those who could still fight remained to keep Dunzhao from escaping.
The demon sentinel was baffled by General Xu's actions. Since when did he care for Emodao? Dunzhao only roared again and charged against the deathless general. Xu Rouguang showed no emotion in his eyes aside from the rage that came from the depths of his soul. He hadn't forgotten the feeling, and so he was so pleased to be able to take it out.
Brother Blue ran across town, keeping himself invisible from the humans. The other immortals were doing the same as they tried to find a safe place to regroup with other patrol units. If they were lucky, they should at least find General Qilin. However, upon sensing the other immortals, his group was shocked to see that they were having a stand-off with the demons. Brother Blue slowed down and went to see what was happening for himself.
The Head Patrol Commander was keeping Botangca from advancing. The demons that served as her guards were armed and ready to fight with them. The other patrol units were also converging in the area. The Head Patrol Commander could see them like everyone else who were not humans at all. He then snorted after taking a short glance, "Brother Blue, you came. You also heard that the demons are attacking the city?"
Brother Blue bit on his lip. "Yeah, we were the first one to respond. General Xu's keeping him busy right now."
The immortals didn't really pay attention to Brother Blue's arrival as the enemies were in front of them. However, after saying a few words, they all flung their gazes at them—it was only when they noticed how battered the newcomers were. Also, Botangca called for Emodao which they found in Brother Blue's arms.
The second battalion general then walked closer in hopes of having someone else take the demon king from him. "Head Patrol Commander, Dunzhao of the Torn made contact with Emodao just outside the city by the old bridge. If we're lucky, General Xu would still be holding him off. We need our reinforcements."
"You're heading back?" Head Patrol Commander asked after gesturing his people to move out. He glanced at Botangca who ran to Brother Blue and abruptly took the man from him. "You should stay and heal your wounds."
"I don't think I should. Besides, we need to chase that demon out at least." Brother Blue turned away and walked back to where they came from. "If he couldn't heal Emodao on time, General Xu will probably slaughter every immortal in the city who wasn't there to help."
