Five Years

The sun glared down at the bustling city, and the children in the school playground whittled their hours in the daycare playing. One particular child stood at the side, holding a thick book to his chest. His hair was short and had a clean cut, emphasizing his big black glazed eyes that could absorb the beholder's attention more than necessary. His complexion was fairer than most children as he didn't like playing under the sun.

One teacher noticed him standing at the side before she walked up to him. She then squatted next to him. "Mingyan, you should join your friends. You'll have fun."

"I'm already having fun." Lai Mingyan answered, not paying any glance to the teacher. His eyes were plastered on those children playing in the field, laughing out as they chased their friends or even just down the slides.
