Still waters run deep

After the food arrived, they did no longer discuss business. It seemed like Old Yannis would join them and they could always get to the details after lunch. No one wanted to let the food get cold, least of all Myra.

"How adorable. See Aaron, little Zora eats all of her veggies!" Myra happily patted the girls head and took a closer look at her. "A cute face, with such brightly shining purple eyes. Just the hair color doesn't match. I don't think you should dye it, it would be lovely in its natural color."

"She had that hair color since birth. We dye it because others usually get uncomfortable around her if we leave it with its natural color and think she brings bad luck." Yannis explained.

"What does it look like if it's not dyed?" Aaron asked them, being the only one who had no idea what they were talking about.

"It's changing from light grey and blue colors to dark grey with purple streaks and seems to be related to her mood. If it were just one strange color it would be fine." It seems like Yannis had to deal with quite a bit of trouble due to this.

"Such an interesting constitution. Train hard little one to make the most of your bloodline!" Myra once again patted Zora's head which made the girl smile.

"What should I be training hard Miss Myra?" she asked shyly after a while.

"Oh, well how old are you now?"

"I'm 8!" – "Ohhh, 8 already, well you should start by slowly using up that energy in your body that had accumulated since you were born. It can help you a lot, but unused it can also become a danger if you don't diligently use it."

"Once that is done, you can probably strengthen your magical senses and then attune yourself some more with the fire and wind element to have an easier time understanding the basic concepts of your bloodline. Don't try any skills or abilities tied to it before you haven't done all that, you likely won't be able to stand all that sudden power."

"Miss Myra, what are you referring to exactly? I'm afraid as both her parents died shortly after her birth and they never managed to inform anyone about this type of heritage, we were always rather clueless what to do about it."

"Such a poor little girl. Don't worry, big sister Myra will tell you all about it!"

"First of all, what do you know about your bloodline?"

The girl didn't answer right away and looked at her grandfather, as if asking him if she could tell Myra about it.

"Don't worry Zora I think it should be fine to tell her."

"The stone said it's an unknown bloodline. It didn't tell me which one exactly. No one really believed me when I told them."

"It didn't even give you a hint? That is soo rude. When I was a child my crappy stone at least told me a little bit about it. Your's must have been even worse. What a shame."

"We got it from a little shop that trades all kinds of low end magic items and some that might be magic items but are really just normal curiosities." Yannis admitted with a guilty look.

"Ah, don't worry about it. As I was in a similar situation before, I was taking a look into this whole thing." Myra opened her dimensional pouch, which by itself made their soon to be retainer and the girl watch in awe. These pouches were immensely expensive to regular people.

She then took out some of her runes and placed them around the table in a certain manner, before taking out a mana crystal that looked unrefined and raw.

Summoning some of her power, the shape of the crystal soon changed and it only took a few breaths of time for it to look like an exquisite gem cut to perfection.

"Aaron, would you make sure no one interrupts us please?" Myra asked her boyfriend and as soon as he nodded in confirmation she engraved some symbols on the gem, before dropping it in the middle of the runes that were scattered around the table.

The gem, instead of falling onto the table, was falling for a little bit before it bounced back up and then hovered a few centimeters above it. The runes also started to emit a soft humming sound and began to shroud the whole corner of the restaurant with their table in a strange mystical glow.

Myra held both hands out towards the girl, one on each side of the hovering gem. "Give me your hands Zora, let's see what secrets are behind your bloodline."

Some children might be scared by the unexpected events and magic, getting nervous with just the slightest bit of contact with the unknown, while others would be excited even while sitting on a rollercoaster asking for another round while even their parents just hoped for it to end.

Zora was definitely the latter type and Myra's excitement just made her all the more curious. She quickly took Myra's hands and looked at the gem in front of her, waiting for something to happen.

If she wouldn't have to focus her energy on the ritual and formation, Myra would probably already squeal in delight herself. Without pause, Myra would charge the gem more and more with her own power and the glow of the gem intensified more and more.

Then suddenly her expression changed all of a sudden. "Oh dang, I totally forgot …"

… was all she could say before a bright beam of light was released from the gem and streaked into the sky.

The ceiling of the restaurant, was slightly in the way of the beam though. Soon they were sitting in a corner that was missing its roof completely, destroyed by the wild energies that continuously created a beam of light, like a beacon that would erupt from inside the restaurant.

"… that we are not outside." Finally her sentence finished, she still couldn't change what already happened.

'We'll fix it later' was all the thought she gave it before once more looking at that beam. Her spirit soared through the beam and interacted directly with Zora, who was still holding her hands tightly, like a kid who would just see the most amazing fireworks in her life.

What a simple gem could not filter, her spirit would find out and what her spirit could not find, she would look for in the very heavens.

As quickly as the beam had come, as quickly did it disappear again. Everything was quiet and even the guests who were all stunned by the unexpected event did not say anything and just stared.

"Uhh, sorry everyone for interrupting your meal." Myra said guiltily while smiling at the other customers. "As an apology, please let me pay for your meal today."

Lucky enough to not only see some fireworks, but also getting a free meal, the other customers were all happy and none made any issues about that unexpected show of magical power. Once more the powerful beam of power was enough to jolt all the powerhouses in the city, but as Myra did not try to hide her power this time, it was easy enough for those elders to recognize that it was the same type of power as several months ago.

Some frowned, others who were not aware of Myra's existence were confused, but none of them made the effort to find out more about it. For all they knew, the royal family sanctioned this person and they would not butt into things that would just cause them more trouble.

"The ceiling, totally ruined! What happened here, who dares to fight in my restaurant?" a middle aged man suddenly ran into the room and quickly became upset when he saw the damaged roof of the house.

"I'm sorry for the trouble we caused sir, we will obviously pay for the damages."

Hearing about compensation, the owner quickly relaxed and took a look at the group of people.

'Two youngsters and some commoners. How are they expecting to pay for the damages? I just hope I won't have to wait for my money for years. What a troublesome day.'

He just wanted to inquire more about how they would pay for the damaged, when Myra took out a solid metal ingot and placed it in front of him.

"What do you want to do with this? Don't think a lump of metal can repla… m… mithril?!"

"I think this should cover the damaged and for the meals of your guests here today. I told them I would compensate them by paying for their meal."

"Of course, this will more than cover it. Thank my lady for your generosity."

Myra returned to the table and then returned her attention to the topic that started all of this in the first place.

"Could you find out anything?" Yannis was the first to ask, but the others were as curious as he was.

"Sure. Actually I have come into contact with this type of bloodline not too long ago. It's no wonder it was hard to find out something. It's even more of a headache than I had initially believed it was."

"I first thought she would have a storm bloodline and this is not exactly wrong, it's just that her actual bloodline encompasses a lot more than that. It's a primordial bloodline that is usually called the Chaos bloodline."

"Chaos bloodline? Isn't that a bad thing? It sounds a lot like some type of calamity. I don't want her to turn into someone evil, she is such a good and well behaving girl." Yannis seemed really worried about his granddaughter.

Myra chuckled and shook her head. "You don't have to worry about it. Bloodlines have nothing to do with being evil. They are the same as a weapon you are born with. Giving someone a weapon does not make someone a killer. Even killing someone does not mean someone is a bad person. Would someone defending their family be seen as evil?"

"Chaos is often misunderstood. Chaos has nothing to do with evil, it is just the opposite of Order. In order to have life, you need both. Order gives us stability, it makes up the foundation of something like laws and phenomena that are always the same. Stones fall to the ground, because there is Order."

"Chaos on the other hand is not just the lack of Order, it is everything that cannot be quantified, everything that cannot be put into some box and labelled and everything that doesn't really make sense from an objective point of view. Magic is one of the driving elements of chaos, because it can easily be applied to change the laws and the Order of nature."

Myra patted Zora's head again when she noticed that the girl looked rather worried.

"Most important of all, with just Order all we would have would be logical sterile people who follow what is the most efficient, the easiest and the simplest. All houses would have the same color, all people would eat the same thing and they would all dress the same. Chaos is what makes us human, because it is Chaos that makes up our emotions and feelings, the love for our family and friends, the totally silly things that make us laugh and the random encounters that we might call fate."

"That sounds nice." Zora mumbled.

"Would you like to learn magic?" Myra asked the girl yet another question.

"Can I?" she looked rather excited again. After all nearly everyone wanted to learn magic, but few had enough affinity with the magical elements to be able to learn it, not to mention that learning magic was expensive for a commoner.

"I don't see why not. Would you let her study magic with me Yannis? I don't think she would be a big help with the shop at her age anyways and it would likely help you more in the long run if she learns about magic as well as magic items."

"Miss Myra, my granddaughter is really lucky to have met someone as benevolent as you. Whatever it is you need I will of course do my best to fulfill it."

"Great. I still have some things to arrange. We should start discussing the details next weekend. Just take a carriage to Silverspire Military Academy early on Saturday. Bring Zora along and prepare to stay overnight. I want her to meet one of our instructors at the academy and without magical power the journey there and back would take too much time for a single day, so you should expect to return on Sunday or Monday. Just use this and tell the guards that Zora is my pupil."

"Oh and here, take this as some advanced payment. You likely have bills to pay and I cannot just let you wait for me for a whole week without compensation."

Yannis was initially prepared to refuse the payment until the work actually started, as he didn't even do anything yet, but remembering his problematic situation and his grandchild he quickly accepted.

"Thank you. I will do as you say and meet you next weekend."

They just wanted to leave when the owner of the restaurant stopped them with a smile.

"Dear Guests, would you do us the honor and leave your name in our guestbook?"

"Oh, I heard of this before!" Myra looked at Aaron trying to grab his attention. Her eyes seemed to say 'Look look! Did you see this, isn't it exciting?!' but Aaron simply couldn't understand it and remained with his stoic expression.

"You sign it and even year's later people would know you have been here! Don't you think that's great Aaron?" - "Yes dear, very great." His deadpan look and the unemotional voice stood in direct contrast to her hyped one.

She quickly signed the book, before waving Yannis, Zora as well as the owner goodbye and leaving the place, heading back to the academy. With a mischievous grin, she once more looked back at the restaurant as well as the several people who had been following her there. 'You wanted a princess and didn't let me get rid of the title.' she thought, 'Well, you got your wish, if you want a princess you will get one! But I won't play by your rules.'

With names rather important in Luminos, such a book was a good source of information. Each title had its meaning and place in a letter. Sometimes full names could be very complicated and long.

When his guests left, the owner returned to the book to take a look at who the girl had signed as. Maybe he would be able to sell this piece of information along with what he had seen to his contacts?

'Who was that guests and what name did she sign with? It's not normal to just take out a mithril ingot.' he wondered, before he looked down and quickly decided not to sell any information on this person at all.

Written with beautiful lines the last entry would show the full name that Myra decided to write down.
