The Dating Game

"Wow! You're really the best when it comes to cooking." Dawn said while giving me a thumbs up sign.


I smiled upon seeing her eat with gusto the food on her plate. Dawn loves eating bacon and eggs on toast for breakfast whenever she's​ at my place.


Well, she usually like any dish that I prepare. I love to cook, while she likes to eat. That's one of the reasons why we clicked.


Seeing her happy face while eating, I remember the time our friendship started; because of my French toast.


"Shoot! I forgot to bring my lunch. |1| Nani o subeki ka?" said the girl in front of me. She's the new transferee and it's her first day here.


I look at her and noticed that she was looking at her bag with teary eyes. Seeing her look so helpless, I tapped her right shoulder.


She raise her hands to fer face and appeared to be wiping off her tears before turning to me.


"Hi! I have packed a lot of French toast with me and I can't eat it all. Would you like to share with me?" I said smiling.


She just stared at me with a blank face. I didn't know what she was thinking. To show her that I am sincere, the opened my lunchbox and pushed it in front of her. The mouthwatering smell of toast and maple syrup filled the air.


"Here. I'm the one who made this. There's no poison in it." I said and eat one to prove it. " See?"


She smiles and shyly reached for one. Her eyes seems to brighten after tasting one.


"It's delicious." She said smiling. "Can I have one more?"


"Sure. Here, try dipping this one in the syrup. It will taste more delicious." I said as I handed her a Hello Kitty-designed food picker.


She took the food picker from me and picked a slice of toast and dip it in the syrup. She then put the syrup-coated toast in her mouth, closing her eyes as she savors the toast.


"Do you like it?" I asked when she opened her eyes.


"Yes, I do." She said as she picked another slice which made me smile. Her face flushed upon seeing me smile but she continued eating again.


"My name's Aria. Sorry I was late a while ago, I didn't caught up to the part that you've introduced yourself. You are?"


" I'm Dawn. Dawn Vernon." She said extending her right hand. I extended mine as well and we shook hands. 


"I'm half-Japanese, half-French." She continued her introduction. "That's why I can say that your French toast really rocks!" She said as she give me a rock sign hand signal.


"Why are you smiling?" Dawn asked me making me stop my walk from my memory lane.


"Nothing. I just remembered our college days." I replied nonchalantly.


She shrugged her shoulders and continue to eat her toast.


"I've actually brought the movie with me. Let's watch it after this okay?" Dawn suddenly blurted out.


I laughed and just nod my head. She won't really let me off the hook and I know she's enjoying doing it.
