The Blue Orchid

The ferry ride to Jeju Island was a pleasant surprise. Hye Jin and I explored the whole ship from the first to the second class since this was our very first ferry ride. Finally we found a lounge with chairs on the top floor facing forwards so we planted ourselves there for most of the ride. As we sat on the deck, we passed by lighthouses and dozens of islands on the way. 


"Hmmm" I said contentedly. Before the journey I was conflicted, thousands of questions were running through my mind with the upheavals I received the past few days. But as I sat there feeling the sea breeze on my face, I finally let go of all my worries.


"And who was the one who didn't want to come?" Hye Jin said smugly.


"I was wrong" I admitted "Thanks Hye Jin for persuading me otherwise"


"I just want this trip to be most memorable in our lives" 


After a while, we ran out of islands to look at, and everything got a little quieter. Then we beheld a lovely sunset in the last leg of our journey.


At long last, land appeared out of the haze ahead and finally we docked at Jeju City. We took a cab directly to our resort which was located on the outskirts of the city.


"Eun Su, wait here for me okay while I'll get the room key from the reception" I nodded as she left me at the waiting area.


The resort was a sight to behold with its picturesque location catering to the creamiest of the rich in Jeju Island. The lounge was not too crowded with ample chairs for everyone there. As I sat and stare at the hustle and bustle of people leaving and checking in I caught sight of a familiar figure. 


Ji Hu Sunbae?? How could he be here? He's in the states right?


I ran to catch up to him to verify but it was too late. He went inside the elevator already. 


"Hey Eun Su, what are you doing here?" Hye Jin asked as she came up to me.


I wanted to tell her about Ji Hu Sunbae but I was not sure whether it was actually him or not.


"Eun Su, why are you standing there in a daze? Come on lets check out the room Dad booked for us" Hye Jin said as she dragged me towards the elevator.


The room was spacious and luxurious filled with all kinds of amenities. It had a big bedroom with twin beds for the two of us, a lounge, a terrace and a state of the art bathroom.


"Wow Dad sure gave us a nice surprise" Hye Jin said as she dropped down on the bed. "Anyway I'm tired. Lets rest for the day. We could always go sightseeing tomorrow."


That night as I laid down my head to sleep I wondered what adventures awaited us the next day.

Ji Hu arrived in Jeju Island via flight but due to technical problems, his flight got delayed so it was not until late evening when he checked in at the resort. It was late to set out for the place he intended on, so all he could do was rest and wait for the next day. As he stood on the terrace, he was blind to scenery in front for his mind and heart were heavy with unsaid emotion. Tomorrow would herald a day of farewells for him.
