Chapter 5

Soon after Miss Glaze spoke, she turned around and started walking inside the Mayor's house. The Mayor, still with a fawning expression on his face, quickly turned around to follow her. His voice echoed back, "Hurry and come inside children!" Afterward, he remained silent and continued into the house.

Inside, the house was wildly decorated with worn paintings, old antiques, and miscellaneous pieces of art. Right inside the door was the sitting room. It was about 25 square meters. In the center was a round table about a meter in diameter and around the table were two curved couches. Although the Mayor's house was large, having over 20 people in just the sitting room was kind of small.

"Alright children." Miss Glaze spoke. "Dinner is still a few minutes away so before we follow the Mayor into the dining room I will give you all some important information." At this time everyone had their attention focused on Miss Glaze, not because of the information she was about to give out, but instead because she had removed the hood that hid her features. Everyone in the room was shocked except for the mayor, including Ash. "Wow" Ash once again spoke out loud. Miss Glaze wasn't some otherworldly beauty that could topple cities or anything, let's get that straight. She was mediocre purely based on looks. That wasn't what everyone was shocked about though. Her eyes gave off a feeling that she could penetrate inside you and know yourself even better than you did. "It's like I'm completely vulnerable. " Ash said aloud again. "First I am going to tell you the difference between a cultivator and a regular martial artist. Everyone that cultivates starts out as a mortal martial artist. Through millennia, all cultivators have trained their body to the pinnacle. One must slowly train their body while forcing out all of the impurities to return to the beginning or as it's better known to acquire a "xiantian" physique. With a little talent and a lot of hard work, anyone can be a martial artist. This first step is called houtian. In the brain, behind the eyes, is what is called a dantian. In order to become a true cultivator in the foundation establishment realm, one must connect their eyes to their dantian, creating a bridge with which spiritual energy may be transferred. Cultivators gather spiritual energy in order to become stronger and that energy is stored in the dantian. Your eyes, once connected to the dantian, will become the way you focus that energy." After she finished speaking she turned around and went towards an open door through which could be seen the dining room.

Ash had a contemplating look on his face. "I now know partly how your eyes have an effect on cultivation but I still don't know why they are different colors and if the colors have anything to do with talent or cultivation." He mused to himself. For Ash, coming to this world was still unlike anything he had experienced, even in fantasy, on earth. After a moment of silence, some of the children started to follow after Miss Glaze. Without hesitation, Ash followed as well.

Upon entering the dining room, multiple short gasps were heard. The sound of stomachs gurgling and saliva dripping followed soon after. In the center of the room was a long table. Covering that table were many different delicacies that, let alone Ash who was from Earth, a majority of the children who were there had never seen this much good food in their life. Although all of the food looked delicious, there were certain dishes that had an extra luster to them. They contained an almost imperceptible glow. Ash looked around. "Hmm, the girl Emily is one of the only other children who doesn't seem surprised? She also appears to be staring intensely at the slightly glowing food though. I wonder what could be so special about it?" Once again though he made the mistake of talking out loud. A few of the nearby children looked over, having heard what he said. One of those children who was slightly taller than most of the others walked over to Ash. He had a head full of firey, red hair. Surprisingly his eyes, one red and one blue, although not as intense, contained some of the same intensity as Miss Glaze. Unlike the other children again, he had a lot more bulk and well-defined muscles. "Hey, brother! Do you realize that you're talking out loud brother? My name is Evan Wilhelm, what about you brother?!" As Evan was talking he had already walked over to Ash and thrown his arm around Ash's shoulder. Ash was a little taken aback, but Evan seemed like a good person so he didn't recoil. "My name is Ash Greycloak. Say, brother, do you know what is special about that glowing food over there?" "Of course I do brother! I'm not from the Wilhelm family for nothing! These dishes are made from the parts of spirit beasts!" Evan said.

At this point in the conversation, all of the children had come close to listen to what he said. "So what exactly is a spirit beast?" One of the children asked. This time it was a quiet and thin girl who spoke. "Hey, little sister! A spirit beast is..." "Enough! You bumbling oaf, Ill explain what a spirit beast is." Evan shut up as Emily sauntered over. "I can't listen to you keep going, brother this and sister that, it's annoying."
