"What a joke! A little tier 4 knight dares challenge me?!"
Just as Marcus mentioned their tier differences, the other knights burst out in laughter.
Who knew that a mere tier 4 knight dares challenge their leader who was a tier 8 being. This is just being plain stupid.
Britinia continued to stand still without making a single movement. Her face was stern serious.
Marcus's thought continued to laugh. Since she delivers herself to me, might as well get rid of her.
"Let us fight here!" Marcus declared.
"Here?!" Britinia blinked innocently;y.
"Of course here. The princess is busy... besides that... it won't take much to finish you..."
"Fine!"
"Princess, will you do the honour of starting our duel?" Marcus passed princess Allysium a golden bell. A bell with a crescent moon symbol on it.
As Allysium was shocked repeatedly, she absentmindedly accepted the bell.
"S...sure" By the time she realized her mistake, it was already too late.
Was she going to watch her only trusted aide die? Her heart squeezed in horror. Marcus was intentionally forcing Allysium to watch.
"Princess please." Britinia requested.
Towards her aide's request, she sighs inwardly.
The bells chimes sounded, the tiny bell could actually be heard throughout the courtyard. Silence came right after the chiming, everyone was watching excitedly at the battle that was about to begin.
"Since the princess regards you highly, I will give you a swift and painless death." Marcus posed himself to strike. In the next second, he ran forward. [Martial Arts: Downwards Cleave]
A golden sword lashed down onto Britinia's head, aiming to cleave her into the half. Towards this casual attempt of murder, Britinia was expressionless.
Thinking that Britinia was too slow to react to this simple attack, Marcus sneered inwardly. What challenge? This is just a simple execution ceremony. I was worried for no reason. Can't believe that I actually thought that she had a hidden ability.
At the last moment, before the golden sword came into contact with Britinia's head, she dropped her blade and she raised her arms above her head.
What an idiot! Does she really think that she can block my strike with her arms?
A startling scene occurs right in front of their eyes, right when Allysium eyes were filled with horror. She was unharmed.
Britinia caught the sword right between her palms. This was not the only the surprising action. It was accompanied by the fact that she did it so effortlessly, so gracefully, so proudly.
"Is that all?"
"You are not a tier 4 being are you?!" Marcus came into a realisation, without a second thought he swiftly dashed back.
"Indeed." She inserted her right hand into the gaps of her armour and removed a necklace. The gold plated necklace tore into pieces due to the sheer force she applied.
With the necklace now gone, she was powerful. The seal that hinders her was now gone. A pressure that a tier 8 being emits was detected.
"Shall we start again?" Her left foot stomped down onto the handle of the blade lying on the ground. It spun upwards and she caught it easily without batting an eye.
"That movement! That posture! You are the apprentice of that Lycan?!" Marcus angrily bellowed.
"Correct." Britinia aloofly commented and struck.
[Martial Arts: Blinding Slash]
Purple lightning coiled around her blade as she swung her blade.
"Annoying. Irritating. Bothersome. [Martial Arts: Static Blade]" His blade turned purple.
He tried deflecting her attack.
However, Britinia unexpectedly drops her blade yet again, causing her blade to deviate off its original course.
Tsk, what is she planning? Like hell, I would fall for that. Marcus immediately adapts to Britinia's strange movement. He forcefully changes his attack's trajectory allowing it to block the flying blade.
While he was distracted by the released blade, Britinia had already duck down and was now behind him. The short time he took to change the trajectory of his attack was enough for Britinia to sneak behind him.
Hmph, just like Lycan indeed... He instinctively turned his body around with all his might. He was still the royal knight's captain, his skills and instinct were honed over the years of service. He had the skills to back his arrogance and ideals.
His arms crossed into an X-shape protecting his heart. His instinct has not let him down. Britinia activated [Martial Arts: Piercing Strike]. Her both arms turned purple in colour and her right arm pierced into his armour.
Knowing that his armour wasn't enough to block this, he bit down on his lips. [Martial Arts: Metallic Armour]. This caused his body to stiffen up, While this has the benefit of causing your body to be as hard as steel, it comes with a large cost.
Once used, the user would be unable to move.
Britinia's strike into his arm, and right before it reaches his heart, her arm was finally stopped by the strong resistance. No blood spilt out of his wound as they were burnt shut by the lightning.
"Not bad." Marcus commented, "But is that all, Hahahaha, my turn!"
"Idiot. I have two arms." Britinia's attack was not done, this time her left arm pierce through his heart and created a gaping hole behind his back.
"Darn... it..." Blood poured out of his mouth, and his vision darkened.
"Tell me how did you get rid of my mentor?" Britinia started to pry out information from the dying man.
"Like I will tell you that." "I will let you live if you answer me."
"Hahaha"
"What's so funny?' Britinia questioned him while her arm was still impaled in him.
"A word of advice, don't dig too deep. Even the ambitious I dares not anger it." At the doorstep of Death, Marcus only realised then that his actions were foolish or even pointless. He saw the shadows of something consuming him.
"You! What do you mean?!"
"At dusk, the kingdom falls. At dawn, the empire falls. At noon, a new empire rises from the ashes. " A voice that didn't belong to Marcus came from his mouth.
Finally, he lay still, finally dead. No further movements were seen.
The onlookers cheered and clapped for Britinia's victory.
Congratulatory voices came from the royal knights, only some of them liked Marcus. But they have no complaints since his position was taken fairly, furthermore, they were in the presence of the princess. Nobody would be willing to make a fool out themselves in front of the princess, besides, it wasn't the first time that a woman had become the captain of the royal knights.
Even though she had won the fight, she felt as though she lost something. It was strange that the others did not hear that hoarse voice.
"Princess Allysium did you hear that."
"What was that? That voice and that eye?" Allysium not only heard the voice, but she had also seen a floating eyeball.
"An eye?" Britinia frowned, "Is this the doing of the temple of Dusk?"
"Could this be fate?" Allysium was confused, she had already dumped her feelings of joy at the side for the moment.
Seeing that the princess and the new captain want some time alone, the onlookers left in their own without the need of any ushers.
Together the two ladies went back to the meeting room.
"Just what is going on?"
"Angel of observation?"
"Angel?"
There were no replies causing both ladies to break out in cold sweat. Did something happen to it?
________________________________________________
"Move to point C and commence operation Lockdown"
"I obey" It was the same observation angel that was assigned to the princess.
It seems that there has been a change in the plan yet again.
"Point A in the Capital of Dusk has been compromised. No alternative solution. Retreating to a safe location."
One of the observation angel that fought Alustiel(Saintess of Peace) was giving out orders. It was standing in a triangle formation. On the other 2 corners of the triangle were the other 2 familiar angels of observation who had gone through an evolution.
"Where is the master?"
"The master is busy. We have to prove our worth here, even against an old god."
"Understood."
The three angels are currently in charge of the matters of the Kingdom of Dusk. It wasn't a fun task, especially with remnants on an old god present.
"Shall we report to the alliance of light?"
"No, the master has his plans. The master has already predicted a change in leadership of that alliance. For far too long has the minds behind that alliance not appeared."
"Master seems to have his plans for this old god."
"When will he come back?"
"Who knows?"
"Until then it is our job to sustain our forces here."
"The master's apostle has been gathering followers. The master would surely be happy if he sees her progress."
"Quick, let us do something or we would fall behind her."
"So far the master's prediction has not gone wrong. He was right that the nobles faction was fishy. It is true. Something has gone wrong in their city of operation, the mortals are all lifeless."
"The real problem really isn't the Demi-god but the remnants of the old god."
"The elementals are busy. They are all over the mortal plane. This new source of power would surely topple the power balance of the mortal plane. If those old mages find out about elementals they would surely try to bring them under their control."
"This is especially so with the elementals, they can lend others their power. It seems that the master calls this new job a 'shaman'."
"So many events are happening while the master is gone. I wonder if he had predicted this outcome too."
"All that we must do now is buy time until he comes back."
"None shall enter his chamber."
