Fresh Start

"Alright! After you!"

Jacklin examined the dock below him before it began to rise off the ground.

'So, this truly is a moving city..."

In Jacklin's inherited memories, he witnessed the numerous gadgets in this city on the dock, and in the suburbs below. There was a river shining down there with primitive lights along the river. He then felt the dock pick off the ground as they started floating towards the castle.

Martin took these few minutes to talk to him about the current situation in Terra Morta, Central City. There were currently rouge bandits attempting to raid the labs on Reece Hill.

This was one of the hidden locations of the labs that not even the Chamberlain was aware of. It seemed the less people he told these things to, though, the more spies would weed them out. It was at the Reece Hill Lab that Luna worked, so perhaps that information was extrapolated. However, he was almost certain her taciturn personality wouldn't allow for such a thing.

She was a very smart woman, who worked hard, and had to deal with extreme hardships growing up. When she wasn't working, she was tending to her sick mother and father, and trying to salvage her brothers amputated arm with primitive technology.

It was because of her work in this technology that the dantian reconstruction machine was built. Hence, he had complete faith in her history as they approached the lab.

They entered the lab a moment later, as Martin shooed away the guards. Once this happened, they could begin a more serious conversation about Xavier. Jacklin had no choice since he was worried about his guard's loyalty. After all, they were paid a meager wage, and got to live in a city full of rogues and dissenters.

"Me and Lawrence, your head of defense, are pretty sure Xavier had a small battalion in the city to raid this lab after you died. We intercepted a letter to his house from Darius that during your funeral the raid would happen."

"Well, I'm not surprised they wouldn't take advantage of it… Any clues of who this Darius is?"

Martin shook his head as they walked down the cobble stone pathway past the first restricted zones.

"We're not sure… he's most likely in charge of one of the other Low Lands… There are only three spots for the High Council coming up in the next hundred years."

"So he was scheming because of the technology I possess?" Jacklin said as his feet took him into the lab.

"Yup… they most likely wanted to kill you before the Dantian reconstruction machine was complete. If you are able to become a cultivator, your chances of winning a seat will triple, if not quintuple…"

Martin waved his arm and guided Jacklin towards Luna.

She had tears covering her face and looked extremely upset. It almost made Jacklin feel guilty for letting this coo happen. There were a few security guards sitting around her with grim expressions. They most likely interviewed her trenchantly, and maybe even got physical to be sure of her answers.

"My Excellency!" Luna said as she fell down onto her knees. "I didn't do whatever these men think I did."

Jacklin nodded his head before he signaled she could stand. The guards in the room then looked at Jacklin and saluted with a small wave across their shoulders. This caused Jacklin to sigh as he watched them exit the room. As they did, one of them handed Jacklin a piece of paper.

He put it in his back pocket slowly before he sat down with Luna, and Martin.

"So… now that your interview is done, do you mind if I see the Dantian Reconstruction Machine?"

Luna laughed as tears fell out of her eyes.

"Heh… yes my king. I'm so sorry I let that damn bastard Xavier try and woo me…. If I knew he was going to try and raid the lab, I would've told you in death or life."

"I understand… he had a fairy high rank, and was single Luna… You've been working so hard that you also are still single. I think I might have to hook you up with one of my knights."

Jacklin smiled and then pushed over a napkin and a glass of orange juice he received from Martin.

"Yes, thank you for your understanding! I just want someone who is kind, and doesn't have to fight in the mandatory skirmishes…"

Martin sighed before he raised his hand. "Well… I'm still looking for my second wife, Luna." He smiled at her before Luna pouted and shook her head.

"Is it wrong that I want to be a main wife… You know, you're still single Jacklin…" She flickered her eyebrows before Jacklin smiled and rose to stand.

"Well… you're definitely beautiful enough, but I still have so much to do. How about you show me the machine, and I'll give you a promotion with some time off…"

Martin giggled as he pat the table with his hand. "Hah, not only did you turn me down, you also hit on the prince!"

Luna smiled and got up and began leading Martin and Jacklin to the Dantian reconstruction machine. It was behind a pane of glass, and had a gigantic lock. She looked at Martin with a peeved expression before he turned around. Regardless, it was good to see that the invention was still safe.

"After you, My Excellence!"

"Thank you, Luna." Jacklin looked at her up and down. She had extremely attractive features, and he seriously began contemplating asking her out on a date. She had bronze skin with olive eyes, and very pretty long hair flowing down her body. She also was extremely smart, and he always wanted to ensure his kids were the best in brightest.

After spending years in an academy, then finding out he'd have to inherit a demolition company, the one thing he wanted in his last life was to produce sprawls of kids. After being crushed in the last life, he was even thinking about starting this production sooner than later. However, then he contemplated what it would be like to become a cultivator and live over 10,000 years. If this machine worked, he wouldn't have to take anyone out so soon.

After all, with the new memories that was surfacing in his mind about these production techniques. He was extremely excited about putting on the machine.

"So, how exactly does this thing work, Luna?"

A ball containing lots of gears was around a sling, and he picked it up and spun one of the gears in his hand.

Luna smiled and then passed him a small pellet from her pocket. "Here… just put this in the machine, and it should work."
