Low Down

Jay sat in a daze for a while and when he snapped out of it, the clock indicated 7:08am, which also meant that his new family would be here in less than an hour. Okay... first things first.

"Um... stats?"

Ding!

Overall Evaluation: In terrible shape, hurry up and get better, host!

There it was again, he wasn't dreaming. He didn't know what the average numbers should be for a person, but... a system? It looked like a game window, with stats and all.

There were too many things he couldn't understand, so he decided to focus on what he could grasp.

"Why did my health increase by 1? And why did (-10) change to (-9), what does it even mean?"

Ding!

[System has been healing host's body since host's awakening, because host is in bad shape, it is taking time. That's why health went up. (-10) was a status penalty because host's muscles have been damaged due to long term inactivity, but since the system is healing the host, the penalty is reducing.]

Jay was rooted on the spot... healing? That thing was healing him?

"Ha... Yeah, great... NOT! Are you saying you're healing me right now? How much faster from a normal human being's healing rate?!"

Ding!

[Approximately 50 times faster.]

"Stop! Stop it immediately. Or reduce the speed at which you are healing me, I don't want people to get more suspicious than they already are."

Ding!

[Host is wise, healing rate has been reduced to 2 times faster.]

Jay breathed a sigh of relief, he could control it, that was good.

"How long will it take for my body to completely heal?"

Ding!

[At this rate and without rehab, approximately 4 months. With the rehab, the estimation comes down to 2 and a half month.]

"How long would an average human need?"

Ding!

[Between 4 to 6 months with rehab. A normal human would have to undergo rehab by all means.]

"I see... Well I don't plan on slacking off so that should be okay, but won't 2 and a half month look suspicious?"

Ding!

[The human body has unlimited untapped potential, miracles happen everyday when willpower comes into play, so it will be okay. Fear not host, the system has taken into account its previous miscalculations, it won't make them again.]

"That's good... By the way, can you turn off the notification sounds? It's pretty annoying."

[As you wish.]

"Why don't I have any skill, and how do I... level up?" he couldn't help but feel awkward at saying it out loud.

[Host doesn't have any skills since host has just been reborn, as host uses skills he was once familiar with, the skills will appear. That includes the host's body inherent skills. As for levels, host will need EXP which can only be rewarded through missions, though since host has reduced healing rate, system won't be able to issue any for the time being as host is too weak.]

Jay felt a headache coming. It all seemed... ludicrous. And why a system? He'd never been a gamer.

"You said my body's skills? Does it mean I can also get his memories?"

[Of course. The amnesia is not something caused by the system, it's a symptom of the accident. You will regain your memories when the right stimuli triggers it.]

That was a relief, Jay thought, faking amnesia was easy but he was afraid that if it went on too long and his personality differed too much he'd be labeled a fraud.

"One last thing... why me?"

[Host is the first person to have died from heartache in the past 10,000 years. The Universe was moved by host's-]

"STOP! Okay, I get it, please stop. Oh my god, so embarrassing." Jay felt his face heat up in shame, what kind of nonsense was this, he was pitied by the universe? Ha... he really was pitiful. He let out a bitter chuckle when he remembered his wife. He had loved her, truly he had. Apparently that hadn't been enough.

He slapped his cheeks in annoyance and let out a sigh. He should get a grip, she had betrayed him, and it had hurt him, badly. He had another chance now, he shouldn't dwell on the past anymore.

He had had no choice but to give up his dreams in the past for a more stable income, a more stable job, but now...

"System, can I create new skills?"

[As long as the host can passably use a skill, it will be created.]

"Meaning...?"

[As long as host can cook pasta, the Cooking skill will be created.]

"Really? Well that's convenient. But system...?"

[Yes, host?]

"How do you cook pasta?"

[...]

"... I was joking. No sense of humor." he mumbled.

He might not have been the greatest cook on the planet but he'd been decent enough since all his meals had been taken care of by himself. He could at least make pasta... probably. He didn't actually remember making it that often in his past life though... Jay straightened up at the thought.

"Wait, since I'm Jay Aslan now, what happened to me?"

[Host's past life is in the past. Everything that had been related to you is gone. ####### and his family... do not exist.]

Many emotions crossed Jay's face and he was silent for a good while.
