Awakening

Arthur felt the pain of the explosion course through his body for a second, but then came the peace of death. For Arthur who had already experienced death, it was the calming sensation of eternal peace, the emptiness and nothingness.

Arthur was enjoying himself in this state, forgetting about his problems, his mistakes and his two past lives as if they were mere dreams of a child. Arthur felt like he was laying on the ground, with his arms and legs stretched apart, in a cold stone as the sun bathed him.

Feeling the sun bathing against his skin was odd as the place Arthur was supposed to be was complete darkness. Unconsciously breathing the air, Arthur felt his insides burn, as if the air itself was toxic to him.

Coughing and trying to hold his breath, Arthur felt more pain coursing through his body, while the darkness still covered his vision.

After a few seconds, Arthur heard the voice of his personal A.I. biochip, the same one that followed how since his second birth. In his second life, an A.I. biochip was mandatory for every human.

[Synchronization completed successfully. Warning, host vital signature is unstable. The air is not suitable for breathing. Please do not breathe poisonous air.] (Female Voice)

It seemed that his A.I. had been restored to its original state, since it was calling him host instead of his name.

'Rename A.I. to Eva. Eva what's happening with me, wasn't I supposed to be dead?' (Arthur)

All Arthur needed was to think to talk with his A.I. biochip, since he had spent his entire second life with it in his brain. Arthur grew somewhat dependent of it, or her since Arthur felt that the biochip wasn't just an object for him.

[Renaming successful. There are no data nor records before being rebooted. Warning, oxygen capacity at 35%, can hold this state for 15 minutes, without any physical effort being made. Calculating survival probability. 0%.

Searching for solutions.

Searching.

Searching.

One solution has been found. Solution is evolving.] (Eva)

Getting more confused by Eva's answer, Arthur didn't know what to do. As a researcher, knowledge was something that Arthur had always searched, and right now, he needed to ascertain his situation before acting.

'Explain it, from the beginning please.' (Arthur)

Arthur guessed that he was reincarnated again, but this time he was in a completely different situation. His whole body ached, he was blind and could not feel his arms or legs, it was as if his body had no limbs.

[Air conditions are not fit for the survival of host body. Currently there are not enough oxygen in the current location. Oxygen levels are below 5% of the air composition. 12 minutes left before oxygen complete depletion.] (Eva)

Eva's every response came fast and she only focused on the survival of her host, which was Arthur. Slowly but surely Arthur's mind calmed down, though the pain in his body wasn't going anywhere.

'Okay that I can understand, but why can't I see anything and what do you mean by evolve? ' (Arthur)

[Host current body does not possess any organ of the visual system. Evolution was designated, as the in host body possess the ability to evolve through the acquisition of new genetic material. 10 minutes left.] (Eva)

Eva's answer chocked Arthur as he hoped that his new body needed some time to adapt itself after being born, or whatever, but not having eyes was a huge blow to Arthur.

'Wait, you said yet, does that means this body will grow them later? And what do you mean by evolution?' (Arthur)

[Answer: Host body possess capable of mutating themselves after the acquisition of genetic material. With the correct genetic material, the can form eyes and other limbs. 8 minutes left, please acquire some genetic material that can survive in the current ambient.] (Eva)

'Eva, how do you even know that they can evolve, even theoretically it would depend of the species itself. Don't tell me this body can mutate at such short span?' (Arthur)

[Through analysis, it has been determined that the can adapt to genetic material after consuming them. Yes, this body can mutate several times in its life. 6 minutes left, please acquire some genetic material that can survive in the current ambient.] (Eva)

'How, I don't even know how to control this new body.' (Arthur)

At Arthur words, Eva started to take control of his body, the mechanical blob of metallic cells started moving from the rock it was laying upon, moving like a slime from the fantasy books Arthur read when he was a kid.

Rolling in one direction, the mechanical slime fell from the rock, falling on earth over an unknown plant.

This plant seemingly appeared like a black sunflower, though Arthur could feel his body moving and then falling on some sort of soft vegetation, he could not see what it looked like nor it's colors, which would certainly make him curious about such rare specimen.

After falling on the unknown flower, it immediately changed it's color, shifting through several tones of different colors, then it stopped when it's petals became white. Eva immediately made the mechanical cells attack and invade the flower, consuming it in it's unique way.

Arthur could feel Eva controlling his new body, and even when his cells entered the plant, he could still feel them. The strange sunflower was at least twice as big the ones on earth, reaching almost nine meters high.

At the center of the flower, Arthur's mechanical slimy body was consuming the plant, slowly wrapping itself around it; just like how Arthur's old human body was wrapped before the explosion.

After a few minutes, the plant was consumed at the cellular level, and in its place another exactly the same appeared, but metallic in color and texture. A minute or two passed and this new plant changed its color to what it was before Arthur's appearance.

The mechanical slime took the plant's original form, color and even its ability to change its colors, but was more important for Arthur and Eva was its capability to breathe this world's air, everything else was a bonus.

'So that's how I should do it.' (Arthur)

His voice was emotionless, finally getting a clue on how to survive.

Feeling his body in the form of a plant, Arthur wanted to change it to look more like a humanoid, but before he could do it, Arthur asked Eva.

'Hey Eva, you have been calling the cells of my body as all this time, don't you recognize any of them even after scanning my memory?' (Arthur)

[To read host memory, permission must be granted first and before handed.] (Eva)

'Oh yeah, I forgot you had rebooted. Thinking to himself, Arthur could not feel more desperate. All data and memories of his A.I. biochip possessed before being rebooted would be of great use, even if he had reincarnated years after his last death and science had advanced greatly.

'Permission granted. Save my memories in folders, separating each reincarnation.' (Arthur)

[Scanning memories. Saving data in folders. Three folders have been created. The have been named; → Hybrid cells.] (Eva)

'What, aren't those the cells that I created in my previous life? What are they doing here?' (Arthur)

For Arthur's surprise, his new body was made of the same cells he created for his creature, the Hybrid cells. However Arthur didn't knew that his creation could evolve, this fact proved to him that the mechanical side could greatly improve the biological side.

Just as Arthur was pondering over what more his creation could do, pain coursed through his new body, it seemed to be the only thing his body had developed perfectly.

'For fucks sake, why meeeee???' (Arthur)
