Waiting… Again (2)

"Zita, it's me. Open the door," a male voice said from outside the front door.

Hearing the voice, Zita's expression brightened.

'It's mister...!'

She dropped the weapons she lifted using her skill, got up from the bed and rushed to open the front door.

She removed the things barricading the door and then opened it.

Upon opening the door, she was surprised to see another person, a woman, standing next to Nathan.

She couldn't see her face clearly because she was wearing thermal vision goggles just like Nathan.

Pat.

Pat.

Nathan patted her head as he entered the house.

"How are you? Did anything happen while I was gone?"

"Nothing, mister," Zita said and shook her head.

"I see. This is Aena, my cousin. You can call her aunt Aena. Help her gather all of the weapons outside. You don't have to search for all the weapons, just the ones you can find," he said as he began absorbing all the weapons and the unopened food into his [Artifact] Gold Spatial Finger.

Zita looked at the female standing at the door.

It was a beautiful 21-year-old, 5'5" tall, with long thick black hair tied into a ponytail, brown-skinned and slim woman.

The female stepped forward and said in Regisian, "Hello, how are you? You can call me big sister Aena. I'm Nathan's cousin. So you're the companion that Nathan told me about. Zita, right? Where are you from, Zita?"

'This is mister's cousin...?'

She looked at Nathan and then returned her gaze to Aena.

'Why is she small...?'

Back in Iskaldia, there were, of course, Asians there. She even had two classmates and a couple of schoolmates who were of Asian descent or half-Asian.

And based on her observations about the Asians there and also in Womania, they weren't that tall which really surprised her when she saw Nathan because he was the only Asian she has seen who was very tall. He was so tall that even in Iskaldia his height was considered rare.

However, at the same time, her knowledge about Asians was very limited. And ever since she arrived here in Muwin, it only made her realize even more about that fact.

'Maybe she's still growing and will be like mister one day...?'

Back in the house of Nathan's parents, she saw the family pictures of Nathan and his family hanged on the wall of the living room.

There was even one picture of Nathan's graduation day in college with his long hair tied and standing with two old people, a man and a woman, whom she assumed were his parents. And in that picture, Nathan wasn't 2.2m tall.

"Iskaldia."

"Oh, I used to have a classmate from Iskaldia when I was studying in Womania and she was a close friend of mine. Her name was Greta," Aena said and smiled before turning to Nathan. "Mwhen myou msaid myou mwere mwith ma mlittle mgirl, mi mwasn't mexpecting mjust mto mbe mher. Mi malso mwasn't mexpecting mher mto mbe ma mforeigner."

Nathan didn't bother to respond and continued absorbing the items.

Aena returned her gaze to Zita.

She smiled and offered her hand. "Wanna help your big sister Aena to search for the weapons outside?"

Zita looked at Aena, and then at Nathan, and then back to Aena.

"Okay," Zita said but didn't take Aena's hand.

The two girls went outside.

***

Outside the house.

Aena glanced at Zita as they walked.

'I never imagined Nathan being with a kid, let alone a foreigner…'

'As far as I can remember, he was never really the social type and only kept a handful of friends -- Vincent and Karen...'

'Growing up, our families would have family gatherings at least once a year since I was a kid…'

'He acts and looks normal on the surface...'

'But ever since about 2, 3 years ago, there was just something about him that seemed off or so fake that it just creeps me out…'

'And what he did to Tyler and the others tonight just proved that my assumptions were correct…'

Aena is 5 years younger than Amir and 3 years younger than Nathan, so she's 21 years old.

When Aena migrated to Womania with her family, it was after Amir graduated from high school.

Both siblings continued their studies there.

In the case of Amir, he attended college and graduated with a bachelor's degree in nursing.

Meanwhile, in the case of Aena, she continued her studies there until she graduated high school and came back here to Muwin to study medicine to become a doctor.

Part of the reason why Aena's parents (although it was mostly just her father) decided her to study medicine here in Muwin was because, although Womania was a first-world country, the political correctness was getting crazier and crazier with each year, especially in college campuses, so they were concerned of how that will affect her mind.

And plus, it takes years to become a doctor.

To become a doctor, one must first complete a 4-year undergraduate program. After that, attend medical school for 4 years. And then after graduating from the medical school, spend another 3 to 7 years as a resident. And then after all that, take a licensing exam to practice medicine.

And this is assuming that everything goes well, not to mention the cost.

Anyways, thanks to Aena's experience living in Muwin and Womania, traveling in different countries for vacation, and also interacting with many people from different nationalities, she more or less developed this worldly slightly Westernized view or outlook in life.

"Zita," said Aena.

Zita turned her head to Aena.

"I will pick up over there and you will pick up the items over here, okay?"

"Okay," Zita said and then activated [Lift].

When Aena saw the weapons scattered around the area where she told Zita to pick up started to levitate one by one, her eyes became wide.

With each passing moment, more and more items rose from the ground and hovered around Zita.

'What kind of power is that...?!'

Nathan stepped out of the house.

"How's it going?"

Aena and Zita turned towards him.

"I'm still looking for some of the items," said Zita.

Aena, on the other hand, her eyes bounced between Zita and Nathan, but mostly at Zita.

Nathan stared at Aena.

'This woman…'

'Why isn't she helping Zita and just standing there...?'

'I specifically had her and Zita go pick up the things together so that they'll get to know each other and develop some sort of bond...'

'Very selfish and lazy...'

Zita was done picking up the weapons in her area and turned to Nathan to deliver them to him.

Nathan raised his left hand and absorbed the items.

Aena turned to Nathan.

"Mwhat's mwith mthe mpower mof mthis mkid? Mi've mnever mseen mthis mkind mof mpower. Mis mshe malso ma Prophet?"

Nathan rolled his eyes and said, "Mlook, mit's malready mlate mand mwe mstill mneed mto mfind ma mplace mto mrest mfor mthe mnight. Mfocus mon mthe mtask. Msave mall mthe midle mchat mfor mlater."

Aena became quiet and she started picking up the weapons in her area.

Zita just watched Nathan and Aena in silence.

Although she couldn't understand Muwinian, she was trying to understand the relationship between Nathan and Aena.

Nathan turned to Zita.

"Zita, go help Aena to make things easier."

"Okay," she said and went to help Aena.

Aena was searching for weapons on the ground.

She saw a Bolt and bent down to pick it up.

'I've never seen this System Weapon before...'

She searched for another weapon.

She saw another weapon and it was a dagger.

When she was about to reach out for it, it rose from the ground and went towards Zita, hovering around her along with the many weapons.

Zita turned to Nathan.

"Mister, I think this is all it."

"I see," he said and then raised his left hand.

Zita sent the items toward him and he absorbed them.

He then turned to Aena who was walking towards him to give him the weapon she picked up.

"Mi mforgot mto mask myou mthis ma mwhile mago. Myou're Level 22, mright? Mhow mmuch VIT myou mhave?"

She gave the Bolt to Nathan.

"26," said Aena.

"Mplus mwhat?"

"Mit's 21 (+5)."

Nathan's expression darkened.

'This…'

'She's no different from a normal human...'

'One lucky hit in the head and she'll immediately die...'

He summoned a [Grade C] Ring (+6 VIT) and [Grade C] Amulet (+6 VIT) and gave them to her.

"Mwear mthese min mthe mmeantime. Mwe'll mfix myour mequipment mlater."

When Aena received the two items and the System informed her of their descriptions, her eyes widened.

"+6 bonus stats?!"

She has seen [Grade C] items and was in fact wearing [Grade C] rings and an amulet herself. However, they only give +5 bonus stats.

"Mwhere mdid myou mget mthese mthings?"

Tch.

Nathan made a clicking sound and said, "Msave mthe midle mchat mlater. Mhurry mup mand mwear mthem mnow."

"Mokay…"

She removed the amulet and one of the rings that she was wearing and then wore the ring and amulet that Nathan gave her.

"Mjust mthrow mthose maway. Mthose mare monly +5."

"Mthrow mthem...?"

Back in Fort Yano, when it comes to the equipment, the most expensive items were the [Grade C] Ring and Amulet which has a starting price of 250 Ration Tickets each.

Aside from the fact that only [Rank 2] Zombies drop [Grade C] equipment so they weren't easy to hunt, the ring and amulet also have no durability, so no need to repair them. And if the bonus stats is a complete one, like +5 STR, instead of the +3 STR combined with another +2 random bonus stats, it's even more expensive that it could reach up to 500 Ration Tickets.

Aena looked at the items on her hands.

'I'm just going to throw these things…?'

She recalled how she and her 'family' danced with death so many times just to get these items.

But then she also recalled everything that happened tonight, especially back at Fort Yano.

The revelation that Nathan was a Chosen One…

The [Grade C] items with +6 bonus stats…

'This feels like a big joke…'

Aena let out a pitiful chuckle before throwing the items away.

"Leave most of the killing to me. The both of you stick together and protect each other," Nathan said and then turned to Zita. "Especially you, Zita, be sure to protect Aena because she isn't a Chosen One so her stats are lower. Also, her stats are currently unbalanced so her speed is very slow."

Both Aena and Zita were surprised by what Nathan said and they looked at each other.

'This kid has higher stats than me...?' thought Aena.

'This lady is very slow...?' thought Zita.

They then followed Nathan.
