Super Villains and Re-entering VR

Too many people in this day and age were living for their own self interests. Examples of this could be seen just in the overall increase in Super villain activities lately. These activities could be anything from internet and VR crimes all the way to more traditional methods like robbing and killing others. The temptation for many of the stronger people with higher ranks could easily become too much. This led to a much more strict and overbearing stance taken by the UNHA in response. The documentaries on some of the highest levels of the UNHA was a very effective deterrent for many. With some of the strongest A and S ranks there being able to read minds, catch bullets and react to situations at light speed, it's no wonder the normal person does not easily go into a life of crime and infamy. There are always exceptions to this and just like the normal people before WWIII, there will always be those who abuse and go against the laws.

Most of the mega cities like Geneva and Berlin that Mark has lived in have their own police and law systems. These are all based on the overall laws given by the UNHA with some slight changes depending on where you live. The main laws however have been the same for many years even before the discovery of super powers. The one good thing about super villains however relate to how strong a person's super powers are. The higher rank and potential a person has the stronger their powers are. This normally leads to most of those with high rankings already being well off enough not to resort to crime. This simple fact means that many crimes are committed by desperate and poor people who are below C rank. Mark has even contemplated doing something like this when faced with his extreme debt. The struggle of doing the right thing over the easy choices is something most people face every day.

Mark is normal in this aspect of his personality. If he could truly find a good enough way to pay off his debt all at once whether it was legal or not would not be his biggest concern…

After finally going to sleep after analyzing his rank card, Mark wakes up feeling refreshed. A new day and new potential for his super power of Radiation can't help but bring a smile to his face. This is not a big smile as he still has the thought of the 50 million credits ever-present in the depths of his mind. The determination in his mind to improve himself and his powers floods through his mind like adrenaline as he briskly walks to the Hospital Geneva in the early morning.

As he enters the hospital and makes his way to the now familiar testing room, looks of pity are often thrown his way. Not everyone has heard about his circumstances but many of them have some idea that something bad has happened because of him. The most extreme of these looks came from Bertha and she looked like she almost wanted to say something when Mark passed her desk. She doesn't though and no one stops him beyond a "Guten Morgen" and some wayward glances. Mark makes record time in getting into the VR capsule and sees yet again a middle-aged man in the left most capsule. "This seems like it is going to be a usual thing", Mark thinks to himself as he glances again at the name tag next to the capsule. The only other change to the testing room is the middle VR capsule has been cleaned in preparation for someone and a small note written by Carl next to his pod.

The note reads,

"Mark, With the help of some technicians and programmers I have been able to lock the required nutrient solution to B grade along with some other restrictions to the AI's protocols. I wanted to apologize again for the incident yesterday and to say that something like this will not happen again."

Carl Schaffenhauser

The note also appears to be some form of personalized stationary of Carl's which is very rare in an age where people normally communicate digitally. Mark also thinks that this could be a subtle way of Carl just showing off his wealth to everyone he meets which aligns much better with Carl's personality.

Mark is relieved to know this and surprised that Carl would take the initiative to apologize so many times. Mark also wondered if Carl had some problems of his own in response to the incident of wasting most of the S grade nutrient fluid. It would have been really bad for both Mark and the Hospital's finances if the same kind of incident happened again. It would be even worse if it happened to another employee later down the line of the training process. As far as Mark knows, it is a sort of standard for the best and wealthiest hospitals to training their new doctors this way. Mark would even believe that the President and Board of Directors of the Hospital Geneva had heard about what had happened to him yesterday. After all, 50 million credits is still a lot of money even in the eyes of corporate giants like the Hospital Geneva.

After taking a few minutes to familiarize himself again with the process of setting up the VR server Mark is finally ready to enter the VR world. Mark remembers all of the new experiences he has had in the VR world and how even the basic training there can bring huge benefits. Mark also reminds himself not to play around with his body too much even in the VR world. Ever since drinking out of the pink pond Mark has developed a healthy sense of suspicion of strange places and landmarks and will hopefully not make the same mistake twice further down the road. The neural interface connects with a jolt and Mark's vision fades to black yet again. His body in reality follows suit as it slips into a trance like state. The only exception to this was Mark's brain which seemed to be flashing with pink veins and lines in an eerie and sinister pattern.
