The Team

Jessica was also a part of the art club. She only had a little contribution to it though. Her time was dedicated to tennis. She took it seriously. Fern was good but not as much as Jessica. That would be attributed to her laziness. It was a rare case to not fond Jessica being stern to the younger player about attending practice. And then, she was there. She was good at one particular thing, but had a touch of everything. She would run and try breaking her own records but would never dare to go into competition. She could make decent drawings. Her academics were average. She loved debating. But not against Ton. He was too good. And half her time went into anime and video games.

Weekends back then during the summers we're what all six would wait for. They would meet up at Sai's or James's. If they had been in school, they would have sometime after school. Sometimes they would not find the time. Mostly Ton was missing but the other times it would be one or the other missing. They was nothing important they would do. Just talk about some random things and bid byes as they would part for the day. It was during the last quarter of the first year there that she found herself thinking about Sai more frequently.

They were in the same class. They had lunch together. They sat together for the classes. They even stayed back during the exams and studied together. But never once were their results comparable. He was among top three. She was an average. But they studied together. The studied the same. Mysteries that she would not understand. She even doubted herself if she was falling asleep during the exams.

It was rare to find Ton with them. God knows what he was always busy with. Being close to Sai for a good period she would miss him if was absent for more than two days. Then he had decided to skip a grade all altogether. That time was hard for her. But rather thankfully, his class was not to far away. Just two other classrooms in between. They were on the same floor. She always went to him during the lunch hour to have their food together.

But she didn't feel so comfortable there. Of course, it was a senior class after all. Sai wouldn't come to their class again because his new friends would tease him.

He said so himself. They were no secrets between them, true. But him saying that made her feel a little out of place. Especially the ladies of his class made it very uncomfortable for her with the unfriendly stares. At least she was thankful that most of the boys ignored her.

She did not understand since when his view changed on hanging out with her. Even in their last year, he was always with her. The other classmates would talk about them. But they never gave a thought to it. Who knew, maybe now he is actually her senior and he wants her to sense that they were not equals anymore. That she was interior to him. After all, he still managed to do well in his exams to be in the top three of his class.

Things were indeed beautiful back then. But slowly everything has changed. And now, nothing is the same.
