Abram and Grace had finished eating. Abram had grown bored with the adult talk. The 5 year old boy kept yawning and playing with his toys. Grace, on the other hand, was listening to us intently. Her grey eyes shows an understanding and intelligence far beyond her 7 years of age.
Mrs. Drake and Chloe stood up and took the children away for a nap. Mr. Drake and I continued the discussion in his study.
"Chloe's condition will give them something to hit me with."
"Partaking in human blood is regarded as the 'mark of a true vampire', whatever that means." He said with distaste. "As our Guild and Covenant greatly value pure-bloodedness, if her condition becomes known, she will be in an extremely tough position."
"She will be denied most of the privileges that we are enjoying, the connection, the protection, and access to various resources available exclusively to the faction. If the elders are feeling particularly vindictive, she might even be exiled, forbidden from entering our grounds altogether. She won't even be able to stay with her own family. But that's not the worst of it." He said and gave me a meaningful look.
"Being exiled makes her fair game to all other factions." I added, my mind reeling from the realization. Without the Drachonius clan's backing, Chloe would never be safe anywhere. She would be hunted down by her father's old enemies. I didn't want to think what they would do to her when they caught her.
"She would be a bargaining chip to be used against me,"
"Event if a single person from another clan gets wind of this, they'll be more than happy to use this knowledge to force my cooperation," Mr. Drake said, his face scrunching into a grimace.
"You see, it pains me to see my past actions coming back to haunt my child," he said sorrowfully. "But what's done is done. And what matters is what we're going to do from this point forward."
"Yes. We'll finish this charade and keep her safe," I said.
