The Opposite of a Savior

Life sucked, and right now, life seemed to suck a little more. I hated my job, my parents died away in a plane crash, and I failed to get accepted into a single college. I was if anything, scraping the bottom of the barrel.

The pay of working as a cashier at a corner convenient store could only do so much,

especially if you had a expensive hobby.

Video games were everything thing to me. The thought of traversing an unknown world that developers spent hundreds of hours forging just for you was enticing. Working twelve hour shifts just to do that seemed to take back that part but even so, I knew I had to buy this game. It spoke to me on so many levels. The game was pretty simplistic to be blunt, nothing special or ground breaking. Gragadon the Savior, was in fact, the simplistic mmorpg game that I needed in my life. I just needed to grind out hours and hours of gameplay and maybe life might seem worth it.

Might.

I looked down at my wrist watch, it was already midnight. My body almost folded as I realized I also had work tomorrow at six a.m.

I honestly wanted to cry. I was only nineteen and I felt like I could already retire from all the stress. How do people do this, the whole living a mundane and simple life?

Needing an answer I kept my pace until I came across the ice cream stand that was always open at this hour. I feel like it was placed on my way home just for my benefit.

Ahhh.

I quickly paid the stand keeper, Marcus.

"Im gonna guess here, the usual."

I stopped in my motion of handing him the money,

"You know what, give me something crazy tonight."

Marcus laughed,

"Usually people don't use crazy when referring to Ice cream."

I stifled a laugh, that made my day.

It was funny that this guy was the same age and had the same first name, I liked the little moments we shared together.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah."

Marcus bent down and after a few seconds came up with a cone.

"Velvet cake for a good friend."

We both smiled,

"Thanks Marcus, keep the change."

We shook hands and I made my way a few feet away toward the crosswalk. The sign indicated that I had to wait, that was odd.

I looked both ways and no surprise, the streets were all vacant.

Then it happened.

The ground began to shake and all the street lamps exploded.

Holy shit, what was happening?!

It felt like a rug was pulled out from under me. I hit the side walk hard.

"Mother fucker!" I yelled as sirens from vehicles rang out through the alleyways.

"Marcus, you are the chosen one."

I opened my eyes to see myself sitting in a white room. The walls seemed to stretch on for miles.

I....

"Marcus?"

I jolted as I watched a girl materialize in front of me.

Was I dead, is this the after life?

"Do not fret Marcus, you are not dead."

Oh thank god, wait I hated my life, fuck.

"My name is Pam, I am the creator of Amaris, a world of Enchanters."

I swallowed hard, this couldn't be happening.

I was just on a street corner, how am I here?

"I get you are scared Marcus but my world is in grave danger, I can only do so much. That is why I chose you, the sworn savior of Amaris. Right now you do not understand but once you are struck by my divine power, all knowledge and potential will seep into your very soul."

I held my breath, every thing she said sounded so crazy but somehow, It resinated through out my body. The words tingled my ears.

"I don't quite understand, but I am ready."

She smiled. Up until now I was occupied by my own thoughts to notice but, she was gorgeous. No words could comprehend the way her gold hair fell all the way to the floor, or how her eyes glowed gold. Nothing could.

I lifted my head, I was on the street corner again. The shaking was still in full swing but I managed to push myself up. I stood, confused and scared.

An explosion of gold filled the sky. This was it, if that girl was right. I was unmistakable the chosen one. I felt my heart lurch. I had meaning, I was going to be something.

A smiled crept across my face.

A golden beam of light exploded forward on a b-line straight for me.

Woah.

It was so close, I could feel the power radiating from it.

This was my fate.

"Watch out!"

Huh?

It was Marcus, the ice cream stand owner. He was sprinting toward me, fear on his face. I put my hand up to stop him but he collided with me, the impact sending me flying backwards onto my back.

No.

I had one glance at him before the golden beam hit him, causing the ground to explode in a fury of gold smoke.

Then, nothing.

The shaking stopped and the entire area went deadly silent.

What the fuck.
