Jealousy

"Yes, always!" Renae replied chirpily, her cheeks as round as apples as she smiled. With this, Matthew was reassured that their friendship wasn't broken and wasn't going to be broken anytime soon. "So how have your relationships been lately? Erm... got a Boyfriend?" Matthew asked awkwardly, his hand ran through his dark blue hair.

Renae was a little taken aback by his question. "Oh, I don't have a Boyfriend right now..." Renae replied, equally as awkward, maybe more. Matthew's eyes lit up when he heard this. But even so, he had his doubts. He looked up at her and stared straight into her eyes as he asked, "Then who's Kaiden to you?" This question shocked Renae terribly. She was in a daze for sometime before regaining her consciousness and replying, "Oh, I didn't get the chance to say it just now since you guys didn't let me. -AHEM- Kaiden and I worked on the investigation of the robbers together while you were in a coma. We became friends but we're nothing more, nothing less, I think..." Of course, Renae didn't add the last part.

Matthew relaxed after hearing that. Then he remembered something! He laughed to himself and Renae gave him a look of confusion. "I just remembered, when I saw your note, you guys could've gone through much less trouble if I was conscious. I know how the two robbers look like and I could repeat their names a thousand times and over," Matthew laughed. Renae took some time to process this, but when she did, she joined him in laughter. "It's fine though, if it wasn't for this I wouldn't have met Kaiden." Her reply made Matthew's eyebrows crease. Even thought she had assured him they were nothing more than friends, he couldn't help feeling jealous.

Renae's eyes drifted to the hospital room's window. The sun was already setting. This reminded her of her day at the beach with Kaiden. Her cheeks flushed slightly, but even such a small detail didn't go without Matthew's notice. It definitely made him unhappy. He was sure she was thinking of Kaiden, who else could it be? After all, their last topic was Kaiden.

"The hospital's visiting hours will end soon so I shou-" Before Renae could finish her sentence, Matthew gently pulled her over by her arm and landed a sweet kiss on her lips. Both their hearts were beating rapidly as they kissed. Matthew had let his jealousy take over.

When they pulled apart, Renae stared wide-eyed at Matthew, in her eyes a hint of love. Matthew's ego was immediately replenished. "I'm sorry, I... I just miss you... a lot." Matthew's explanation did not help. It just made Renae's heart beat even faster. Her face was red all the way to her ears! She was so stunned she didn't utter a single word. "A-Ah... I see... I didn't hate it..." Renae mumbled, her heart a sense of satisfaction. But before Matthew could reply, she quickly said goodbye and ran out the hospital room.

Renae took the bus back home. On the way home, she called Matthew's mother. "Hello, Auntie Ann?" "Yes, Renae? Is something wrong?" "No. I went to visit Matthew earlier on because you told me that he awakened. But I didn't see you there, so I thought you probably left. The doctor told me that he can be discharged tomorrow. I just wanted to inform you." "Oh thank you dear. I'm sorry I left earlier, I had some stuff to deal with at work. Thanks for letting me know that he can be discharged tomorrow. Rest well." Renae ended the call after listening to Auntie Ann.

Next, she sent Kaiden's number to Matthew.

She went back to reading her book until she reached her stop to alight. Renae alighted the bus and walked back to her house. June holidays are ending tomorrow. School's starting soon and she still has yet to pack her school bag.

Renae went into her room, took out her school bag and let out a sigh. "Why does time have to pass so quickly?" She complained. At this moment, her mother walked into her room. "Time passes quickly when you're having fun." Her mother replied. Renae pouted at her. "Enough with the pouting. Now go pack your bag for school." Renae rolled her eyes and packed her bag.

The next day, she went to see Matthew get discharged. At first, she didn't want to go to the hospital. She didn't know how to face him after what happened the night before. It'll most probably be very awkward between the two of them. Renae was not the type of person to be rude so she still headed to the hospital.

She greeted Auntie Ann and Uncle Jeffery when she saw them. "Go ahead inside. We'll be outside waiting for Matthew." Renae nodded her head in approval and went inside the room. "Hey, sorry about yesterday. I don't want things to get awkward between us," Matthew said immediately when he saw Renae walk into the room. "Hello, yeah I hope that too," she replied. "Oh yeah, school's starting. Do you want to have lunch before school starts tomorrow?" "Sure. I'll let my parents know then we can go." He said with a smile on his face. Only those who are close to him have witnessed it.

Matthew let his parents know that they'll be having lunch together and both of them left the hospital. "Where are we going? Aren't we taking the bus?" Renae asked. "No." Matthew's reply made Renae look at him confused. "Woah! That car is woah. Whoever owns that car must be rich!" Renae said in awe, looking at Mercedes Benz S-Class Maybach. A beep beep sound was heard. "Come on, get in," Matthew said, holding the door open for her. "Huh? But I don't own this car. I don't have a license either," Renae said cluelessly. "Just get in. The car's unlocked." "Okay." Renae said still confused.

"Isn't this stealing?" She asked Matthew innocently. "You still don't get it do you? This is my car." "What?! You own this car?!" She almost shouted but Matthew covered her mouth. "Come on, let's go for lunch." He said. "O...kay" She replied still in amazement.
