.5 The delegation meets trouble

The delegation had been on its way for nearly a month now, but the people's spirits were as high as ever. After all, it was the beloved young Han Miss getting married.

Prime Minister Han was in the sedan ahead of the brides, with Nanny Na keeping him company. The wedding nanny from Shangwei insisted that the bride speak not and not be spoken to. As a result, no one was allowed to keep the bride company. However, the tight circle of soldiers around the sedan took turns telling stories aloud to each other and singing to keep her entertained during the day and guarded her with undying loyalty during the night. The wedding nanny wasn't thrilled by the arrangement but could get mad at them since, in theory, they weren't speaking to her; she could hear them.

The weather wasn't in the best condition today. For the past few days, the sun wasn't seen at all, and finally, the heavy rain poured out its frustration today, covering the pathways with thick mud. The delegation worried about being held behind schedule but, more importantly, about being stranded in the forest.

"His Grace told us to wait for the rain to calm down! Move to stable grounds!"

"Why is the bridal sedan so far away?"

"Why are you moving away from His grace now?! Come closer!"

"The second unit of guards is really useless. Why are they even here?"

"Maybe they can't hear. I'll go get the Young Miss sedan to speed up. You guys go ahead." A young soldier eagerly went to get the bridal sedan.

He noticed that the second unit's leader was, in fact, standing right in front, stopping the sedan from moving. "Hey! What are you doing? Keep movin!"

The young soldier frowned, "Unit Two! Can't you hear me? Move Young Miss's sedan!"

Just as he screamed, unknown men dressed in black suddenly appeared, surrounding the sedan in an orderly form. Alarmed, the guards drew their swords to stop them from getting too close to the sedan. However, the men in black didn't make sudden movements but walked circles around unit two, shrinking the ring every step. "Someone! Help!"

The rain doubled at this point, the thick drops of water making it harder to see. As if they were waiting for the weather to turn rougher, the men in black began to press against the guards' defence even further.

Amidst the tension, the unit leader walked closer to the sedan, his sword drawn and abruptly stabbed into the sedan. As if they too were alarmed, the men dressed in black quickly advanced. Utilizing the guards' shock state, they killed to break through the circle and took the unit leader captive before disappearing into the heavy rain.

There was no indication of where they came from or where they went.

The young soldier rushed to the sedan to see the state of the Young Miss. His heart was pounding against his head, worried sick of what had become of the Young Miss as he pulled the curtains open.

His eyes widened, and he stumbled back a few steps at the scene in front of him. "T-th-This?!"

The sound of footsteps splashing in the mud froze his entire being. A hand came from behind him and slid the curtain down.

The young soldier slowly turned around to face Prime Minister Han.

With a friendly smile that didn't reach his eyes, Prime Minister Han patted his shoulder, "Let's keep going, shall we."

In the gloomy weather, Prime Minister Han's sturdy features looked frightening. The scar on Prime Minster Han's face stands as a reminder of who he really was, a war hero.

Prime Minister Han was no flower man; he killed and dyed his hands in blood for over a decade in some of Jeontu's horrendous battles, returning victorious. This was the type of man who would not flinch as he effortlessly erased the existence of a mere guard.

The young soldier peeked back into the sedan and suddenly grew fearful of the whole situation. Just what was Prime Minister Han prepared for?!
