.5 A bold statement

"Better start talking because I-" The guard interrogating was cut midsentence by the assassin spitting in his face.

"Ya ain't getting sh-t for me."

Her face contorted with rage as she chomped down on something. The guard urgently wiped his face and raised his hand to hit her when she began to spit out black blood.

"The hell they get blood from? I haven't hit you yet?!"

Unfortunately for him, that was just when Luo Li and Long Dahai walked in.

Luo Li saw the pool of blood and became furious, "I told you to keep her alive!"

The guard's expression hardened as he helplessly looked at Luo Li. "I-I."

Luo Li urgently squatted down next to the assassin and felt her pulse.

"Since I'll die, let me tell you something." The young assassin proudly raised her face to Luo Li, grinning as the blood trickled down her chin. "She is useful to us. Getting her means winning the young lord's favour."

"Young Lord's favour?" Luo Li's forehead furrowed, and he hoisted her up by the collar, "Who do you serve?"

The assassin grinned at his aggravated expression. Leaning into his ear, she whispered something before falling limp.

Luo Li wasn't easily swayed by people's words, but it was eery and left an unpleasant aftertaste. He could only conclude that there was more than met the eye with the new bride.

He shoved her over before springing to Long Dahai's side. "Wangye, she's dead."

"You look startled. Did she say anything of interest?"

Luo Li's jaws tightened as he bowed his head, "She said to see if wangye survives with wangfei as a wife."

"A bold statement." Long Dahai narrowed his eyes as he observed the dead body.

"The other assassin said something similar. It seems to be confident based on their master."

"Which master is more potent than Shangwei that they dare to try to kidnap the bride under our protection?" Crouching down, he pushed her jacket slightly and pulled a green token out. "Run it by the information centre."
