Many of the attendants and ordinary employees looked at Leander with complex gazes. Some of their gazes were envious, some were laced with ridicule, and some were filled with admiration.

Unless some miracle occurred, ordinary people could hardly ever break away from ordinary life without any support from powerful forces. This was not something that persistence could change, as everything relied on skills and power in Blue Star, and without any special skills or strengths, one would not be able to break away from their caste and advance to the higher castes.

Leander was taking a gamble with his life, but if he succeeded, he'd break through and become an evolved being, immediately becoming a member of the upper class.
