A Contract of Misfortune (2)

Dracon left the castle and not too long after her found himself bumping into Nyla and Lucas. "Do you have any idea where everyone else is?"

"We wouldn't know, they went their own way. Couldn't even find Kavira and Clain." Lucas was usually the quiet type but today he couldn't help but speak aloud. "I have a bad feeling.. I'm not sure for who and to what extent but I think something awful is about to happen."

Dracon didn't have such feeling but if Lucas was speaking about about it, it must be something worth thinking over. "What do you suspect it is?"

"I can't say." For once Nyla was quiet and just listening, something like this wasn't normal. "I believe we should find the others as soon as possible."

Dracon nodded anxiously. "I search this way." Pointing at the west side of the city. "We will meet back here in two hours."

The sun was already going down by the time the three parted ways. The first person Dracon encountered was Linx. "Have you seen any one else?"

"No. The kingdom is huge compared to our cities." There was no lie to it. Dracon and Linx looked around as they only had forty minutes left. The only person they found before heading back to meet up with Nyla and Lucas was Dalton. He had been roaming the marketplace, admiring the beautiful women. He hadn't met up with anyone when they reached the meet up point Nyla, Lucas and Clain were together.

"Where's Kavira?" Clain was concerned. Kavira went off on her own but he never would have thought that something would happen to her.

"Where's Brenda?" Dracon's mind wondered. 'A Contract of Misfortune'.. Many people didn't accept pixies back in this time because they considered to be very unfortunate. The disobeyed their laws and were disowned by the very people they served. Their snipped wings were a sign of disgrace, the only people capable of making 'A Contract of Misfortune' are them, the pixies.

"I don't really know, but there's something I would like to tell the rest of the group." Everyone glances over at Lucas with narrowed eyes. "Ever since Leena planted us with that white energy... I've had a few changed to my power. I... " Lucas wanted to stop and turn away. There was really nothing more embarrassing to him, such a quiet guy and calm man to be speaking up so frequently. "I can see dead people."

The group smiled and laughed except for Dracon. They all didn't notice the change in his demeanor until they stopped laughing. The truth is, this is magic, there's no telling what the possibilities are. "Can you hear them as well?"

Lucas nodded. "At first I couldn't. But I tried harder to focus and not be scared, I can now hear them."

"What're they saying now?" Dracon was really interested. Many years ago be met someone with the same gift, it was because of that person that he was able to escape the first time around from being captured by his father.

"They're saying that the unfortunate will soon die a burning death. I don't know why I have a burning gut feeling that we need to save whoever they-"

"They have Brenda." Dracon inserted himself. At first he wasn't sure, but now he was.

"What do you mean they have Brenda?" Nyla was frowning and she couldn't help but question all of this. Lucas hadn't told her about his new found powers, Brenda and her had gotten close, from the time they first met till now.

"This time in the past, Pixie's were viewed as unfortunate. They had their wings snipped off which granted a great deal of misfortune to them. Because of this they have the ability to make 'A Contract of Misfortune'. Basically, you can have a wish, any wish, but once you have what you want. Everyone, including your immediate family will be in cycle of misfortune."

"What does that have to do with Brenda?" Nyla wasn't following. Clearly no one would want to use such a thing, it would be inhumane.

"I believe that she might have been taken and locked up somewhere. I have no idea where Kavira is though." Dracon turned to Clain with a sad expression. "We have to find Brenda since she's the one in immediate danger."

Clain wanted to argue but if what they are saying is true then he needed to do what was best for them all. "Where do we start looking?"
