Chapter 42: White Bird Organization’s Elders (Part 1)

Gabriel's eyes were covered by the sunglasses, so Li Yifei didn't see his eyes turning in her direction.

If the topic was all about the game, Gabriel simply couldn't ignore it. Removing his mask, he said, "It's called Mystique. Sis said it's connected to Nightingale."

Li Yifei tilted her head, unsatisfied with the information. "That's all she said?"

Gabriel shook his head. "She was explaining too much, so I made her stop. I don't want her to spoil me too much."

Too modest! You're too modest!

If I was sister-in-law's blood sibling, I...

… I would probably do the same.

Gabriel and Li Yifei sighed.

___

Inside a dimly lit room, the only source of illumination was a huge flatscreen TV flashing its contents across the space.

"Mystique skyrocketed in the gaming world, thanks to everyone who contributed their hard work," Elliot announced, displaying the game's current ratings.

The board softly clapped their hands.

"For celebration, the company will be hosting a party as thanks for everyone's hard work. I hope the esteemed board members will attend as well." Elliot relayed Lillie's words.

"Of course, Mr. Anderson. Please send our best regards to CEO Bai and Miss Fujikawa," a Chinese woman with black hair said formally.

"CEO Bai is too humble. We all know she and Miss Fujikawa had the biggest contribution to the game," a blonde man replied.

The board members had changed since the Zhang Guan incident. Lillie had handpicked each of them carefully.

Much like Elliot, they were not your ordinary businessmen and women—especially if the She-Devil herself had chosen them.

___

[I didn't expect Mystique to be this popular!]

Currently on video call, Haruka was grinning from ear to ear as Lillie informed her.

With documents in her grasp, Lillie skimmed through their contents. "You should believe in my capabilities more often."

If Haruka was drinking something, she would've spit it out directly onto her tablet.

How could she forget…being capable was an understatement. She was a monster!

Plus, as one of the Divine Beasts of the Underworld Society—White Bird—her capabilities were beyond comprehension. Only god knew what she was truly capable of! Her power was limitless, and yet…

Haruka wondered why Lillie even fought Ethan when it came to business. When she was already this powerful.

Don't be greedy, Lillie!

Haruka ended the call, unsure if Lillie was still listening to her.

Meanwhile, Elliot had taken care of the board meeting with the new board members. Speaking of board members, those people were Lillie's trusted confidants, all of whom were members of the White Bird Organization.

Yes, every single one of them belonged to the mafia.

And Lillie was their boss.

She was already their leader in the Underworld, and now, she was still their boss in the so-called Human Realm.

The Human Realm—that's what the Underworld called normal society. They referred to themselves as dwellers of the Demon Realm because they saw themselves as demons, monsters, and all sorts of creatures.

At least they admitted it, right?

The board members and Elliot left the boardroom, heading to another room two floors above—just below the floor where Lillie's office was located. Unlike the boardroom, this place had a warm and relaxing atmosphere.

The room was bright, featuring a large flatscreen TV, couches, tables, and a refrigerator. If a living room and a kitchen had a baby, it would be this.

The board consisted of six members—three men and three women. These six, along with Elliot, were the Elders of the White Bird Organization—Lillie's most trusted subordinates.

Lillie had asked them to disguise themselves as board members for WPE.

As soon as they entered the room, an invisible switch seemed to flip.

The formerly business-like and serious board members' behavior completely changed.

"Geez, if my parents heard that I'm a board member of WPE, they'd probably laugh so hard their tracheas would fall out." The man with bright, curly blonde hair laughed.

He was White Bird Organization's head hacker, Lan Wucheng, known as Red Raven in the Underworld.

People who knew him well understood that he was a playboy—a carefree guy who never meddled in business matters.

He hated business matters.

But since his beautiful Boss had given an order, how could he refuse?

"I was surprised you even accepted it. Didn't expect you were that deeply smitten by the Boss' beauty," a tall, black-haired Chinese woman scoffed.

She was An Xiuling, the head strategist of the White Bird Organization, also known as Enyo.

She hated playboys like Lan Wucheng. After being dumped by her boyfriend of ten years for her best friend—cliché as it was—she had sworn never to love again.

"Awww, don't be jealous, babe. You're still the number two gem in my eyes," Lan Wucheng said huskily, sending her a playful wink.

"You want me to pierce your eyes?"

Lan Wucheng yelped as An Xiuling gave him a deadly glare, threatening him with the daggers in her hands.

Elliot sighed. He didn't even wonder how she managed to sneak them into the company.

"Now, now, A'Ling, you wouldn't want to stain the Boss' carpet with blood, right?"

The peacemaker—sort of—was another Chinese woman with blood-red hair. Clearly dyed, but still enough to send shivers down anyone's spine.

Plus, that creepy, always closed-eyed smile she had? It haunted people's nightmares.

She was Feng Chunhua, known as Thousand Face Succubus, the leader of the organization's information brokers—specializing in extracting information from intoxicated victims lost in lust.

Like a courtesan. But with guns and death.

Beside her sat a handsome Chinese man with jet-black hair and serious gray eyes, covered by square-framed glasses.

He was Song Mokun, the leader of the Elite Assassination Squad, known as Silent Death.

His coworkers didn't know much about him, but they did know one thing—his loyalty to the Boss was absolute.

Lastly, there were the twins—Cyrus and Cyra.

Abandoned by their mother to fend for themselves, they had grown up on the dangerous streets, learning to survive through strength and bloodshed.

Their motto? If you're not strong, you die.

Infamously known as the King and Queen of the Streets, they were now feared throughout the Underworld as Killer Jack and Jill.

They were inseparable. Their ruthlessness was unmatched.

Imagine two fourteen-year-olds holding a man three times their size, squeezing his throat single-handedly while grinning crazily—whispering terrifying words that would haunt him even in death.

That was them.

Lillie had randomly been roaming the streets when she stumbled upon a group of armed men in red suits surrounding two bloody teenagers. They had, unfortunately, caught the eye of Vermillion Dragon, who had tried to force them into submission.

When the twins refused, he had sent elite assassins to end them.

They were strong, but the assassins were stronger. They were completely vulnerable.

Lillie had heard about them before and was intrigued by their strength.

So she saved them.

And from then on, they belonged to White Bird.

"Dream on, stupid raven. Boss wouldn't even bat an eyelid for you," Cyrus deadpanned.

"Hah?!" Lan Wucheng exclaimed angrily.

Cyra rolled her eyes. "You're not even a quarter inch as handsome as Boss' fiancé."

"…Fiancé?!" Lan Wucheng's jaw dropped.

"Don't tell me you don't know?" An Xiuling raised a brow. Judging by his expression, he clearly didn't.

"For a hacker of your caliber, you sure don't know your stuff." She snorted.

"I was busy, okay? Plus, there wasn't a single news article about their engagement!"

"You think Boss would let that happen?"

Silence.

Lan Wucheng's answer was clear—no.

"Anyway, who's the lucky bastard that managed to tie our Boss with the red string of fate?"
