The Test

After saying yes the screen turned a dark shade of blue then shifted to a white slate. It floated ominously in front of me.

—————————————————————Question 1 out of 100-

What was the sole reason for the Collapse of the Old Age?

A.Disease

B. War

C. Elixir outburst

D. Poverty

Thirty seconds to answer—————————————————————

I stared blankly at the screen, something was off. I made sure to analyze each word before converting in my head. I was one hundred percent right. The answer was not there. I knew for a fact, hell I even just took a test over something like this. The answer was overpopulation but it was not there. There was no "none of the above" option either.

I now had ten seconds to answer. I hesitated and stuck my index finger toward the screen. No, I refuse to guess. I knew the answer and that was final, maybe Metro made a mistake.

Maybe. My heart lurched as I watched the seconds tick away and the screen turned to blue. Man that was hard to do.

—————————————————————Question 2 out of 100-

If you were part of a military organization and an unknown target was spotted. What is the correct step to analysis?

A. Fire at the target to convene any unwanted actions

B. Radio in to a superior

C. Shoot a warning shot to alert the possible civilian

D. Take out the target if it might overturn the mission.

Thirty seconds to answer—————————————————————

Compared to the first one, this was a thousand times harder. What was it even asking? If you saw a unknown target passing through, wouldn't you do nothing without instructions. Wait. You would do nothing, such as not even select an answer "nothing".

I swallowed hard from my inner thoughts. Was I really going to let the second answer go by just on a whim. What if it was meant for this one and not the first question? Did I get the first one wrong then? So many questions littered my head but not enough time to make a conclusion. The question shifted to blue again. I took in a deep breath. Welp, I already sitting at at 98, that is if I get a perfect score throughout the rest of the test. I was certain that it was impossible. The next eight questions were military based and just as before I was left dumbfounded by what was presented. Only on question eleven, my dread set in. A math question over calculus appeared and I solved it quickly, clicked the answer and was on the way to the next one. Then it happened again, another question with no real answer, and it was even geometry. Next was twenty questions on English based problems and oddly one short answer in which I typed, "the passage above is not factual." The twenty eighth however, did have a clear answer and I did what I did before, nothing. After coming all the way to eighty, only six answers in total had definite answers. I knew that there was no way this was correct. It was too outrageous to be on purpose, you could tell by the short answer. I sighed, it was finally truly dark and most of the lights of the Grado flickered out. Only the chirping of bugs and the faint noise of mechanical noises from the junkyard filled the night. The rest of the answers went by without a single real answer in there, I was at a lost for words. Was it because of my HallowCell being junk before hand, or was it because it was an older model maybe?

I scratched my chin as answer 100 appeared.

—————————————————————Question 100 out of 100-

What Old Age weapon do you prefer?

A.Broadsword

B. Katana

C. Bo Staff

D. Bow

Unlimited time frame—————————————————————

I laughed as the answer registered in my head. I guess it was a gimme type of answer were it took no thought process.

I aimed for Bo staff and before I clicked it, the answer disappeared into ones and zeroes. Excuse me? I watched as Bow also dissipated from the screen. Oh no, I did not take another second before clicking Katana on a whim. I did the one thing I hated. I watched as the same familiar blue screen appeared.

What on Earth did I just waste my time and effort on? What even was that last question?

I yawned as nothing happened for a few seconds.

Congratulations on Finishing the Metro Prodigy Seeking Test Application. Your Results are HERE.

—————————————————————

I felt shivers run up the back of my spine as a cold breeze tickled my face. A cold breeze rarely happens in the Grado. I quickly clicked "here" and awaited my failing grade. I gave it what I could offer I guess. My mouth dropped as I read the number in front of me.

100%

The daunting number hung in the air as the realization hit me. All of the questions were meant to be like that. Scary. But what do I do now. I never even thought I would score so high. I was guessing Davaniel would be shitting his pants right about now if he knew someone from the Grado just passed his beloved "one percent test."

I did a fist pump in the air before closing my HallowCell and resting my head back on the metal sheets. It always feels good to pass a test let alone make a perfect score. I could not help that a smile crept onto my face without me realizing. Only if I heard what my HallowCell said next.

"Sending signal to MetroLife to escort application personally to Metro. Location confirmed and has been sent immediately."

—————————————————————

"Mr. Calister, another perfect score has been sent in from the test."

Davaniel sat still as he framed himself facing the incredible sight of Metro falling asleep.

"How many is that so far?"

A scrawny aging servant stood perfectly still next to his master who was sipping expensive wine.

"Three to be exact."

Davaneil smiled as memories of old seeped into his mind.

"It is just that..."

Davaniel raised a brow as he noticed the uneasiness his childhood butler emitted.

"What is it Marlo?"

The servant swallowed before speaking,

"One of those three applicants comes from The Grado sir."

The wine no longer entered his mouth, the glass placed on a nightstand.

"Is this confirmed?"

Marlo nodded even if Davaniel kept his eyes forward.

"It is one hundred percent confirmed from the signal."

The tall broad man stood and smoothed out his white tuxedo.

"Do you remember an old saying Marlo. A diamond in the rough I think. I feel like this is something similar to that."

Silence.

"Yes sir,"

Davaniel stalked his way to the glass wall that lined his high rise suite.

"If he was one of the few that pass then pursue him, if more then ten pass, then don't."

Marlo felt a bead of sweat roll down his cheek.

"Well you see sir, only a total of five have passed. Everyone able to take the test has already taken it."

It seemed as if the tension died out completely.

"Marvelous."

Davaniel took out his HallowCell,

"Go after the perfect scores immediately. Test them of course."

Marlo nodded swiftly,

"Of course sir."

The servant started to scurry off,

"Wait,"

He stopped.

"I want you to personally oversee The applicant in the Grado. And also,"

His features turned soft,

"I'm nothing like my father so you don't have to be so tense Marlo."

Marlo grinned ear to ear,

"I sometimes forget that."
