The walk to the safe haven was a quiet walk. By the time we got to the safe haven, it was dark. "Hey, who's the new one?" Asks one of the soldiers.
"This is Henry Zariath," Amelia responds. The look on the soldier's face is hilarious. If Amelia thought I was a myth, they all must think that besides the higher ups. "If that's the case, I can't disobey orders. I'm sorry, but I can't let him in," The soldier says.
"That's okay, I will deal with it," Amelia mutters. She and her team enter the safe haven, leaving me behind.
--------------------
It's been an hour since Amelia entered the safe haven. Every now and then, I find a soldier staring at me cautiously. It's funny, they think I'm going to do something to them, it's as if they think I''m a murderer. "Hey Henry, my father wants to speak to you," I hear a familiar voice call out to me. I look to my right to see Amelia standing in the middle of the gate.
I follow her through the safe haven, ignoring the stares I'm getting. The place is crowded with tents and people, even at this time at night, everyone is still loud. How does anyone sleep here? We take a right turn and the Townhall comes in view. The building is enormous, it's at least 500 feet wide. It's surrounded by another wall with guards posted on top.
We enter the building and the first thing I'm greeted with is a sword at my throat. "Let him go, my father wants to speak to him. After that, you can a chat with him," Amelia says. The soldier does what he's been told and lets me go, I give him a small grin and walk with Amelia. "I'm quite the celebrity, I like this," I say jokingly.
"You shouldn't joke about that, his sister was killed because of a disobedient soldier," she says. She gives me a sad look, I can instantly tell she lost someone important to her. "Come on, my father's in that room," she points to a door with a design of a serpent. Slowly, I walk up to the door and open it. I'm greeted by an old man with long grey hair.
"So, you're the person my daughter wants me to allow into the safe haven? You sure aren't much, I thought you'd be bigger," the old man says.
"Well, sir, the world isn't kind to people. I'm lucky I'm still alive, to be honest," I say.
"Fair point Henry Zariath, I understand that you helped my daughter with a group of vampires and I thank you for that. Now, you were exiled for disobeying orders and you've been on your own for half a year, correct?" I nod my head, "Okay, so you want to be let back in and serve the Imperial Army, whats to say you won't disobey orders again?" He says.
"I disobeyed orders because I wanted to avenge my Adalia, she was killed and I lost control. I don't see myself getting to close to anyone, that's why you should let me in and serve," I say. The old man doesn't change his facial expression, he'd be good at poker. He nods his head and stands up. "Okay, I will let you in this safe haven. Seeing as you were a captain and were trained by Abel, you're more powerful than half the soldiers here, but just because of that power, I will not treat you any different. You will be assigned to Amelia's squad, now go." The old man says.
"Yes sir, thank you for this second chance," I say as I leave the room. Amelia greets me and asks me how it went. I tell her what happened and she brings me to the barracks. All of the soldiers stopped what they were doing and stared at me. "Who the hell is he?" One of the soldiers say. I can tell I'm going to have troubles with him. "My name is Henry Zariath," I say as I step out to greet him. The last thing I need right now is to get into a fight.
The one who spoke up didn't shake my hand, instead he gave me a deadly glare. Ok, this is going to be harder than I thought. I let my hand sway down and sigh, "Ok, so that's how it's going to be," I mutter. "Amelia, I'll be fine sleeping outside," I say and walk out.
"Wait! You can't just leave the barracks like that. Plus, where would you sleep?" Amelia calls after me.
"I'm glad you're worried about me but, I've been on my own for half a year, I've picked up on how to find a place to sleep." I say without looking back. I take a left and enter an alleyway, and let the shadows consume me. I quickly use this time to get away from Amelia to find a spot to sleep.
-------------
It took me a hour to find but, I've decided to sleep on top of a building. The place is nice, it's got a little shack on top that I can sleep in. The shack is big enough for three people, maybe four. The only thing I'm worried about is the owner coming up here. There isn't much inside the shack just a bed and couch. On the bright side, I don't have to worry about the wind and it has a display case for my weapon. I take my jacket off and put my sword up on the display case. "Goodnight Yamata," I say quietly and let sleep take over my body.
