Arriving At The Estate Of The Yuan Family

The following morning, Tao Xue was in a happy mood, as he would be able to get some good entertainment at the Yuan family, where he would see the battle for the position for the 5th Successor.

This was a position that was generally overlooked, as it was in the exact middle of the 10 successors of the family. The person that obtained it was also considered rather average, not too good, and not too bad, as the higher level geniuses wouldn't compete for it, nor would the young rookies who have a low level of Cultivation try to attain the position.

Today evening, he had to be there in the courtyards of the Yuan Family, so that he could see the fight for the 5th Successor. It would be good to get to see some real fights. At the morning, he met Ju Yuan, who reminded the both of them to come for a second time. Other than that, they got to know of something else.

Apparently, the position of the 7th Successor was to be held on the same day as that of the 6th Successor, and there will be a combined competition. This was quite the new to them, as it was very rare to have two successor battles so close to each other. The fact that they would be on the same day was a bit surprising.

They also got to know that the whole family would be there, as the new generation's youngest members would fight, and that would give them the list of the young geniuses with great potential, who still haven't got a good rank in Cultivation, and have just started. If nourished and nurtured properly from the very beginning, they could become the pillars of the Yuan family, in the near future.

There was a big uproar in the family, internally, after they all heard about this. It was a bit abrupt that the patriarch hadn't told them about this from the start, and he had made a change in such a time that the people were a bit too excited.

At the Academy, Tao Xue had nothing to do, which was a bit boring, as almost all of the students were Cultivating, and he was the only one who had already reached the 1st level of Cultivation. The system of letting all the students reach the level was a good one, as it ensured equality while teaching, as that was good for the students who were a bit behind in speed.

If this wasn't the case, Tao Xue would have already been learning in detail about Cultivation, unlike the other students. It would be the same for Tao Xue for some days, as it would take at least 3 days for the students to reach the 1st level of Cultivation.

While walking back home, Ju Yuan was a bit excited, as he was going to see the great event of the 5th Seccessor's selection today evening. It was a big event in his family, as the Successors had access to more resources, the family heirlooms, the treasures kept concealed in the family treasury, and all the stuff that normal family members were not allowed to access. They would also be given more respect, and had a position of their own.

Successors could hunt down criminals, and take on mercenary jobs, with the clan or family as their backer. That was one of the biggest perks, as if the clan or family backs them up, they wouldn't have to pay any kinds of refunds for not finishing the mission, and they would also have way lesser chances of getting ambushed along the way by robbers or other people.

Each Successor, just like the Elders, had the right to house one branch family under themselves, directly, and use them as their direct subordinates. They could use them as a mini army of their own, to assist them in various jobs. Being a successor was something that meant a higher level of authority for them in the clan or family.

Tao Xue looked and Ju Yuan and he immediately knew what Ju Yuan was imagining in his head, as he walked with a smile permanently plastered to his face, resembling much to an artificial smile. He knew that Ju Yuan was thinking of the privileges that he would get if he were a successor, and that was true, as he could become the 7th Successor, if not the 6th. It was possible for him, even though it wasn't completely in the bag.

The first thing Tao Xue did after reaching his house was rest. That was because he knew that he wasn't going to get any of that until after the battles, because he was going to analyze the fights.

By the evening, Tao Xue was ready, and he was wearing rather very posh clothes. They were very nice and good looking, but, Tao Xue wasn't that interested in formal clothes, nor did he like wearing them, but since the occasion would have a lot of people, and that too people of other different families, he had to wear formal clothing.

He reached the gate of the Yuan family estate, and he saw Ju Yuan waiting over there, standing like an attendant ready to receive the guests who will be arriving soon. He went forward to receive Tao Xue when he saw him coming to his house. They chatted for a while, and Ju Yuan told Tao Xue all about the plan of the competition. He had also arranged a special seating arrangement for them, as he knew about the plans beforehand, and he had already taken top notch seats for himself, Tao Xue and Ling Shen.

There were going to be fights in the grand arena, which was really large, and even though its size would easily support four fights simultaneously, because of the level of the opponents, it was still used for a single fight for a single specific period of time.

A little while later, Ling Shen arrived, who was in proper clothing, but he looked really shabby. Well, the fact was that he had thought to take a quick nap so that he would be able to wake up just in time to get to the Yuan family's household. His plan, though, had worked out, but it was too good to be true, as he realized the consequences of his motive later on.

He woke up just in time to get to the place, but he wasn't good enough for that. He had to wash up, and get himself freshened up properly, as he was not in good enough condition to get out of his house. He looked like he had come out of his grave, like a zombie.

He could barely make it, after he finished changing his clothes and freshening up, or else, he would have been quite late. Even though he was rather in a bit of a bad shape, he still had to come, as no one wanted to miss such a grand event. He was going to get to see real fights in front of him, and not just practice, but real fights, between men.

He had reached there just before the gates were closed, and then they went off to their seats. Tao Xue saw that there was a huge crowd in front of them, and it would be way difficult to cut through them.

He thought that they wouldn't even be able to get to their seats in the first place, so this was all a waste of time. Well, guess what? He was wrong! Tao Xue saw that Ju Yuan was pointing to a rather shady and shabby area, which looked like it was a passageway used for rather dark businesses, and the feeling it gave him couldn't be called good in any way.

Ju Yuan told them that this was a secret passageway, which would make it easier for him to reach his destination, as nobody other than some specific identified individuals came from here.

They both followed him, and ended up in a really posh gallery, with top notch seats, which were more like beds, as each of them was lathered with all sorts of comforts and luxuries. They all took their places, and saw the scene that was unfolding in front of them.

Currently, all the participants were lining up below them, near the stage for performances, and they were standing next to a man with slick and shiny hair, and a clean shaven face, who was the host, announcer and the judge.

He could easily amplify his voice, as he said, "Hello, all there! I'm Shu Yuan, the host, announcer and judge for this competition for the seat of the 5th Successor of the Yuan family, today! We are going to shortly start with the first match, so please be patient for the time being!"

His voice was rather very passionate, as it sounded throughout the whole arena, and it didn't even hurt the ears a bit, even though it was so loud. The loudness was easily overcome by the calmness in the voice, that also happened to affect the people's minds, as they all payed attention towards the stage, forgetting their own personal measly quarrels.

Tao Xue said, "Let's now start watching the matches!"
