"What was she trying to say?" He asked himself as he stood up from his bed. "Why can't I remember it?"
Five years have passed since his mother died. She told him something important, but he still can't remember what she said.
"Daesin, come downstairs," ordered his uncle.
"Coming."
"So, Daesin. Glad that you've come downstairs. Today is your first day of school. After that many years of skipping class, you will finally go when you think you are ready for it? Lucky that I taught you everything you needed to know. Hehe," said his uncle with much pride.
"Why can't I remember it?" Daesin asked himself.
"Hey, hey. Are you ignoring me? Why are you so mean?" Asked his uncle.
"What? Did you say something?"
"I've been talking this whole time, and you just ignored me! Can't you be a bit more polite?" Asked his uncle.
"Oh no, it's already this late. I will miss the bus," said Daesin, as he watched the time.
He looked outside, at the quiet and empty street, and wondered what had happened that night five years ago.
'A face that was made entirely of bones and had the shape of a demonic, Siberian tiger, with fangs as long as his arm and a body as big as an elephant,' he recalled.
"How is it possible that I don't remember anything else from that point," said Daesin out loud.
"Wakey, wakey. No time for daydreaming. The school will start in ten minutes, and you won't take the bus. You will only go by bike or walking. And since we don't have a bike, you will have to walk; even running will do," said his uncle. "So wear your uniform and you can go, and don't forget to brush your teeth."
"Yes, uncle Carter."
"Bye, uncle! I will see you another time."
"Enjoy your school days, Daesin. Don't arrive too late or I will come to get you personally," said uncle Carter.
It was mid-winter and snow was strangely only falling on the east side of the forest. Rumor has said that it was because of the snow elves that went to that part of the country and used their magic to make it look like it was in their old city, nevertheless, it is one of the many mysteries in this country.
"I will only believe the stories if I find proof myself," said Daesin with disbelieve.
'What a beautiful sight this is, like always.' He thought by himself.
While being swallowed up in his thoughts, he didn't notice the sudden change in the air.
It started to storm, and blocks of ice, the size of a basketball, fell out of the sky; but ten meters above the ground it melted and turned into normal rain. Daesin's mind was wandering off again and before he noticed he made a huge mistake.
"O, shit!" He screamed. "I can't stop."
He slipped over a piece of ice and fell ten meters down the hill. It was an ugly fall. Luckily, the landing only knocked him out and didn't kill him.
"U-uhhh, what happened?" he asked out loud, but as he knew, no one would respond. He looked up and saw a trail of destruction, leading up to him. All trees and plants he came across during his fall were broken and served as his pillow when he landed.
"Did this all happen because of me?" He asked himself. "Well, I guess I didn't break any bones."
He looked at his watch and noticed that it was already 10:30 AM.
"Oh no, I'm two hours too late! Uncle will kill me if he knows about this," he screamed.
"Uhm, sir," A cute, but almost quiet sound said.
"No, no, no," sulked Daesin.
"Sir, you're crushing me. Stand up!" It screamed.
Jake noticed the sound and stood up. He saw a little girl, about fifteen centimeters long, with a blue hat and clownish blue clothes. Pointy nose and ears; and it also had a set of wings.
"What are you?" Asked Daesin, presuming it is an elf.
The little girl answered at a fast tempo: "My name is Eli, as you may have guessed, I am an elf. I have been living on these streets for a while now, and as you might know, I am one of the elves from the rumors. Who are you if I may ask?"
"I'm Daesin. Today was going to be my first day at school, however, while running I slipped and fell ten meters down the hill; it must be your fault. Help me get to school before I miss the whole school day."
Daesin still looked at her. Bewildered about seeing a mythological being in real life, after all, they were only heard off in fairytales or seen in films.
"Daesin, I can help you. But why don't you use your magic power? You have a huge mana storage. You know, this world right now is basically running on mana."
Daesin was astonished. She could see everything about his magic power.
"Well, you don't have to look like that. We, elves, can detect magic and estimate the volume of a mana storage," said Eli full of pride.
"I can't use it," he said.
"Again?" said Eli.
"I can't use it. The only time I could use it was when I awakened it for the first time."
"When was that?" Eli asked.
"Well, I guess I've got to help you. Better give me some money when we've arrived," said Eli.
Ice fell out of the air. The only place it never touched was where Eli and Daesin were standing. The ice started to merge together and formed a slide.
"Is this your magic power?" Asked Daesin.
"Yes, what do you think about it?" Asked Eli proud.
"It's beautiful," said Daesin. Eli blushed upon hearing those words.
The slide had a winding form and went up high in the air.
