Chapter 13: What Susan Wants

After Candidate number 1 was kicked out, a dead silence fell into the room. No one had the guts to say anything, in fact, no one knew what to say. They were all speechless onlookers.

"As you can see, if you don't obey the rules you will be forcibly carried out of the building by the guards. Learn from the example and obey the rules", said Mr Russell who was as calm as the sea, as if nothing had happened. It was obvious this wasn't the first time for him or any of the other judges to witness such an event.

"The next contestant, please step forward", Miss Maria announced, continuing to mend the disruption that just took place.

Miss Walton, who was the third contestant stepped forward.

"Please speak out your assigned duties", instructed Miss Maria.

The leopard in the room was put back into the cage and taken away. Kai sat idly on his throne-like chair, watching the events. He was neither intimidated nor bothered by the leopard or the candidates who were just kicked out. His heart truly seemed to be frozen.

When the beautiful Miss Walton stepped in front of the others, she neither seemed to stand out nor seemed to be attracting Kai's gaze. He didn't even bat an eye at her or her mesmerising appearance.

She was the beautiful young miss of Walton household, trained in culinary skills. Her cooking skills were the most outstanding out of all the candidates in the room. Yet, she failed to attract Kai's gaze.

Susan's cheeks tinted in a shade of soft red when her gaze met Kai's hollow eyes. She felt her heart beating fast when the handsome young master of Rumaro household cast his gaze upon her. She suddenly felt a little nervous, beads of sweat forming on her clear forehead.

Kai quickly broke the eye contact and looked bored. He took out his phone from his pocket to check his social media. The sudden disinterest from Kai displeased Susan Walton a little. She was slightly annoyed.

"Speak up, Miss Walton", urged Mr Russell.

"Yes,", Susan gave a slight nod as her face changed expression. Her beautiful features contorted into a serious look. She continued," Cook a full course luxurious meal using Lobster and Caviar with an exquisite dessert of your choice, play Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and sing a lullaby for the baby"

After she finished reading the list, a look of shock washed over her pretty face. She was stricken with stress and worry which was written all over her face.

"What happened Miss Walton?", Mr Russell asked after watching the colours of her face change into an obvious shade of worry.

"I-it's nothing…", Susan replied quietly, looking away. She was a little worried about how she will pull everything off. Especially taking care of that annoying baby and playing Beethoven. She did know how to play the piano but she was not good at it.

All her confidence was shaking and almost drained out of her body.

"It does not seem okay to us. Besides, you seem to be wasting our valuable time. Including young master Kai, us judges and the other contestants. If you cannot do your duties, it's time you step out", told Miss Maria without an ounce of pity.

As soon as Susan heard that, she immediately exclaimed," No! I want to fulfil my duties. I am not withdrawing!"

"Good. Please start now. The time is ticking", said Mr Russell.

She quickly rushed after take a last glance at her idol, Kai Rumaro.

Kai noticed it. He knew what that meant. Another fangirl. Not that he cared but they sure were annoying. He knew all about these stupid girls who fawned over him. He knew exactly what that glance meant.

After all, it was not the first time a girl looked at him that way. He was used to these kinds of rubbish looks and getting excessively unnecessary attention. It annoyed him the most.

He deliberately designed the duties as difficult as possible. He didn't want any of the candidates to succeed. Hence, he made sure to put up bizarre duties in the duty list to make the competition so tough that everyone automatically failed in proving themselves worthy of the job.

He smirked to himself when he noticed Alena. She wasn't looking at him. For some reason, his heart skipped a beat looking at her perfect figure standing right there in front of him. She looked beautiful today. He especially found her ginger hair attractive.

He quickly tore his eyes away from her. There was something about her, he still didn't know what it was, but he was extremely drawn towards her. Especially, towards how mysterious she was and how unlike other girls that swooned over him, she didn't.

He couldn't help but wonder what it would be like if she got selected and became…

He shook his head immediately. It's not possible for her to get selected. He made sure no one gets selected today.

He couldn't deny, though, a part of him did want her to get selected. He was interested in knowing what kind of person she was. He smirked to himself.

"Ouch!", cried Susan in pain. Her left hand's finger got cut from the sharp knife she was using. Crimson colour gushed out of her delicate finger.

Everyone looked in her direction.

"Bring in a doctor from the medical department! Quick!", shouted Russell to the guards that stood at the door. Everyone saw her getting a cut on her finger.

"N-no, I'm fine. If it's for Master Kai, I can do anything", she spoke softly with obvious tears in her eyes. She was bleeding and yet she had the time to flirt with Kai.

"Take her away, I can't tolerate her", spoke Kai, his voice laced with irritation. He couldn't even look at her. He looked away from her. It would only make the competition less and make things easier for him if she were thrown out.

"No! Young Master Kai! I apologise, please give me another chance!", pleaded Susan.

"Young Master", spoke Mr Arnold at last, pushing his spectacles up the bridge of his nose.
