Moments after rounding a curve in the road, so that we were out of sight, the two girls who had been abused the most collapsed. Serina stopped and huddled over them looking like a destroying angel. [Bit, we need you.!] echoed in my head.
[Serina, darling. Do you really want them to see Bit?]
[Point taken, knock out injection first?}
[Good thinking.]
In unison, we both pulled our Medits and swiftly set up a knockout. Five touches and five sleeping beauties lay on the ground. Beauties, was right! At that moment I was glad that we did not have our full connection. Although Jane is the understanding type. "Bit, reconfigure to accept five wounded and pick us up."
Overhead a glowing disk formed and slowly descended. It did not take that long to load the girls into our ship, and shortly we were safely back in the air.
"Jane, my love, we need to figure out how to handle this little situation you created."
"There is no way that…" Jane started to fiercely retort.
"No, you simply reacted before I did." I interrupted. "I agree with the rescue, but pointing at the girls, now what?"
Bowing her head for a moment, Jane stood silent. Then slowly tears began to drop on to the deck. One plop, then another until it was raining a steady stream of tears. I pulled her in close and quietly waited it out. I mean after all….
Hiccupping, Jane burbled out, "I'm sorry," or I think that was what she was trying to say. And all I could do was hold her close while stroking her hair tenderly.
"Does it help that I love you?" I said. "And no matter what, I'm in this with you till the end?"
Jane snuggled close, her head on my shoulder, and we just continued to stand there in the middle of Bit's deck. Time slowly drifted by until Serina pulled away, (I could tell by looking in her eyes that Serina was definitely back in charge. In some respects, having 'two' women for your wife is sometimes hard to track, but I loved all of the moods. And was she really any different than 'normal' women, as in my short life I had learned that they were massively complex creatures and I'm not sure that they are the same race as men. They had to have come from some race of super beings…) And she said the four most wonderful words while looking me straight in the eye. She said, "I have an Idea." We slipped into our pilot chairs and swiveled them so we could see each other, and yes, she did indeed have an idea as became apparent as we talked.
…
"Ok, then," I said. "So step one is to recruit these girls if we can, is that what I am hearing?"
" Yes," Serina responded. "My question is do we talk to them all at once or one at a time."
"I think all at once. Yes, it is going to be chaotic, but if we set up the Medit correctly, we can cancel the knockout but still leave the girls sedated.
"On your head so be it," Serina said, and so it was.
We were again dressed in our everyday wear instead of the Imperial light armor when we started to wake them. And if you must know, it took longer than you would expect to transfer from the armor to our everyday wear, I think I mentioned that we were newly married? Besides, there is something special about skin to skin contact that helps heal the soul.
A short, shapely girl with huge puppy-dog eyes and deep chocolate brown hair was the first to get the injection. We soon found out her name was Ashley and she was a senior in high school and was looking towards becoming a Doctor if she could fight the system and get into medical school. That we applauded her brought her to our side instantly, as apparently a women Doctor in 1948 was a strange thing. Just the luck of the draw or what I am not sure, but it turned out she was a pulp fiction addict and waking up after being kidnapped (again) by two aliens in a flying saucer did not totally freak her out. Just mostly it did….
Blonde Barbara was the next girl we woke up. Also as shapely as they come. Luckily she was Ashley's friend and neighbor. These two were the last ones to join the bikers little party and were only slightly traumatized as it had all been fun and daring until they saw what was happening to the other girls. To say that Barbara was freaked out of her mind is a gentle understatement. But contrary to the old wives tales, Blonde did not equal dumb. Again we lucked out.
Marjorie was the girl who we rescued before the nasty stuff happened. Still, to say that waking up in a UFO with a couple of actual space aliens after being practically stripped by a gang of bikers was not even more traumatizing was a safe bet. Bolstered by our drugs and in the arms of hysteria she just sat and looked at us. Not speaking, not moving. Marjorie worked in the local library and fortunately, Ashley knew her also. We had to leave her in the hands of Ashley and Barbara for the time being, and I think just being silently held by other two girls was helping. As I heard a slight sigh escape from her lips and her body tension reduce slightly.
We woke the two who had suffered the most at the same time. It seemed appropriate as the two redhead girls were obviously twins. (Think twin Maureen O'Hara just before Hollywood discovered her.) Serina had performed emergency first aid, so they were no longer feeling any pain. She had also cleaned them up which seems to make a difference to the girls. After what they had been through why being clean was that big a deal I have no idea but as they looked at each other, I could feel that it did. Serina went into a three girl huddle with them as they all cried and the two girls looked at me as if I was going to be road kill soon. It was not until after the tears slowed and Serina came into my arms, for solace, that the if-looks-could-kill glare that I had been receiving diminished. Later we found that they both were attending Annhurst College in Connecticut, but had come home on break.
It was only later that I found out just how lucky it had been that Serina had heard Marjorie crying. The number of female college graduates in this time period was in the single digits. For us to have found five girls who not only had looks but brains was unbelievably lucky.
Once everyone had cried themselves out and were as normal as one could be on a flying saucer orbiting the earth; the sight of which was just outside the cockpit windshield, even the possibility of which was even unthought of by all but one of the girls. Serina started our sales pitch.
