BOY MEETS GIRL

*yawn*

"Boring!"

Guan tosses his phone on the counter after playing with it, and lazily leans his weight on the chair, tapping the arm rest with his fingers lightly. Why does he have to do this? For God's sake, he is the son of one of the richest men in City X and, and here he is, in a fucking bookstore waiting for some customers!

Maybe he can tolerate as a utility staff in the main company, not here. A subsidiary company that everyone almost forgets – if not for its name.

This is the lowest position he had ever been. Does his father really miss him this much?

Well, it was somewhat his fault to receive this kind of punishment. He laughs at himself when he thinks about it.

Punishment?

Feels like he is in middle school all over again. They are really treating him like a child, once again. Can't they think of something new?

But he wonders what is the true reason for this punishment. Is it because he got arrested or because he hasn't been home for years? Or there is more? It's probably the former.

"Shit!" Guan curses loudly. Good thing there is no other person inside the store. He picks up his phone and started dialing a number.

It took a few rings before the other person finally answered. "Where are you?" he puts the phone down and turns the speaker on.

"What do you want? I'm still on a business trip, I'm busy right now!" The other person on the line retorts.

Guan frowns at the answer. "Shut up! I know you aren't, so, let's go out tonight."

"Wah! We just got reprimanded last time. Look where you are right now, and you know I almost got relocated because of that. Let's lay down low for a bit, okay?"

Guan's lips twitches in irritation. Yeah, just say it's because of me. "I meant drinking."

The man is silent for a bit. "Oh, is that so? I don't know about that. I'll look into my schedule for tonight later."

"Look into it now."

The other person on the phone sigh in exasperation.

"Are you angry at me right now?"

"No, no, of course." He defensively says and lets out another sigh. "Fine, I'll go."

"Good, tonight at seven, at Brother Zheng's place."

*ding!*

Guan turns his head and saw two people enter – a man and a woman, bubbly chatting to each, ignoring him as they pass the counter and went straight to one of the aisles.

His eyes follow their every move.

Thriller section.

That is uncommon, at least for today.

"Got to go, someone's here."

He hangs up before the other person could reply. Guan sighs heavily. He hopes that the people who came are not some another annoying customer. He has had enough of that for today and, he does not need another round of it; not when the day is almost ending.

It has been a week since he became a staff in the bookstore, alone. It is boring and tiring especially, Yinyang Publishing released a new edition of one of their books from a famous author. The very day he stationed here, a flock of people came and it drained his energy.

Most of the patrons who came were women and they kept hitting on him – not that he hates the attention, but most of them were middle school students. He knew for a fact that he is handsome but, he likes mature women more. He is not some kind of pedophile! But since he is a good-natured person, he entertained them with pleasure.

The bookstore normally closes at six in the evening but since he is pissed right now for some unknown reasons, he plans to go with his way today and close early, no matter what the consequences are but...

Guan straightens his body up and looks at the two people browsing through the shelves.

'Hurry up! Hurry up! Hurry up!' he repeatedly chanted inside his head. He really wanted to get out of this damned place.

After a few minutes, finally, the two customers are finally done and are now walking their way towards the counter with books in their hands. He secretly peeks at the woman to check her out – out of habit – and her angelic face catches his attention.

Their eyes met for a few good seconds.

'Huh, not bad. But her eyes are impassive.' As if saying they are telling him to back off. She was just smiling sweetly awhile ago at her friend.

Guan is certain the man is just a friend.

"Li, I forgot my card, let's use yours," he heard the woman said when she could not find what she is looking for in her purse.

Guan smirks, punching their purchase as he does. He had his head bowed so, the people in front of did not notice. He must not let his thoughts run wild.

Clad in a white blouse and black pants with her hair in a ponytail, she looks rather formal and respectable, especially with her glasses on. He reckons she looks much more beautiful without those (glasses).

They must be working in a big corporation or something.

Guan turns back to his senses when the woman put three cards in front of him. He frowns and looks up at her with his face asking what the other two unfamiliar cards are for. Picking it up, his eyes scans through the cards and realized what it is meant for.

Immediately, his mouth inaudibly forms an 'o'.

"I apologize, I'm new here," he said as he takes the chance to have another glance at her.

She makes a nod and faces her friend, giving a her a smile while talking about something he doesn't understand.

'Oh, she looks cute.' He smiled at the thought.

"Here you go."

The woman gives him a curt smile and said 'thanks'.

As he was handing the paper bag, Guan purposely brushes his fingers through hers but gets no reaction at all.

She just, immediately went for the exit. Well, that was fast.

How disappointing.

Guan raises his brow and smirks while looking at their retreating backs.

Yinyang Publishing, huh?
